It is concerning that they did not feel that was urgent knowledge to tell their residents, but the free chicken nuggets in the kitchen were. Other than the priority concern above, overall it is a nice place to live.

Maintenance man Kevin is fantastic though, I appreciate all of the times he came to help us with our first-time renter mistakes. Do not fall for the scam that is living at Block 36 like I did. This place is terrible, but I will start with the few positive things. I lived at Block 36 for 2 years while I was an undergrad at MSU. Block 36 is in a solid location with the distance from Michigan State University being extremely manageable with the bus routes and provided city bus passes. Additionally, the price and the fact that the apartment comes furnished is hard to beat when it comes to student housing. Unfortunately, that is where my positivity ends when it comes to Block 36. Upon move-in, it was clear that my unit had not been cleaned or even properly inspected prior to handing my roommates and I our keys. There was roach droppings and debris, dirt, and dust piled under furniture (fridge) and in cabinets. Additionally, there was a smoker that lived in the unit before us which left our walls and ceiling fans caked in residue, as well as cigarette burns in the carpet in the living room and multiple bedrooms. The kitchen vinyl flooring was peeling and sinking in multiple places, and the carpet in 3/4 bedrooms was lifting and exposing nails. We noted all of these things on our move-in checklist. Upon move-out, between myself and my three roommates we were quoted over $2,000 dollars for these same issues that we noted upon move-in and management never took the time to address, inspect, or fix. To dispute the charge, I sent an email on behalf of my roommates and myself as the charges were communal (supposedly totaled and split between all of us). The response I got from the GMs, Rene and Rachel, made it clear that she did not even read my email nor look at the images that I had attached proving that we did not cause any damage to the unit. This email thread went on with her telling me not to communicate with my roommates about the issues and reprimanding me for my "condescending" tone. I was not condescending then, but I am now - she is incompetent. Against her warning, my roommates and I did converse about the charges and I found that every email she exchanged with my roommates and me had different and misleading information, ultimately removing my charges but not my roommates' for the same issue. Rachel is not a good manager if she cannot communicate accurate nor timely information with residents. We also had issues with an Assistant GM, Taylor, who was a resident in the unit below us. We got multiple noise complaints for times that none of my roommates were in the apartment, we were all in classes on MSU campus. When we fought against the charge that was posed against us for violating "noise rules" by asking for evidence, the AGM who was sending the violations listed herself and her experiences as evidence. This is a gross misuse of a management position, and I am disappointed that she continued in her role after this incident. When legal action was threatened, magically the noise violation threats stopped! Crazy how that works. All in all don't live here. The price and location are not worth the absolute torture that you will be put through in terms of false charges.

The first unit at The Landings at Chandler Crossings appeared to have not been cleaned... it was dirty, smelled awful, had broken things taped together, and even had belongings from previous tenants left behind. There is no way anyone should have considered that room ready to be lived in. Management told us someone must have claimed they inspected it when they apparently hadn't, and that this was a very rare occurrence. That is hard to believe when other reviews describe similar experiences. We were promised updates and improvements under the new management, which was a major reason we gave the property a chance despite the previous reviews. When the first unit was deemed unacceptable, we were moved to The Club at Chandler Crossings, supposedly the better option. Even there, the kitchen drain had significant yellow buildup and the shower/tub drain was broken. The stairs at the Club appeared to be deteriorating, which is a serious safety concern. We were told there are simply too many rooms for staff to properly check and keep track of. But that shouldn't become the resident's problem. The actual living spaces should be the priority, not just the amenities and appearance of the property. We spent over five hours dealing with switching leases, with two cars full of belongings after driving 45 minutes to get there, all just days before school starts Monday. Multiple employees gave us different information about pricing, and in the end we paid more than we were originally told. Some staff were rude, while others told us this was a "blessing in disguise" and that they were "glad this happened" because it would be a learning experience for the future. At our expense? This was not a blessing in any way. I understand mistakes happen, but the condition of the units, lack of communication, conflicting pricing, and overall handling of the situation were unacceptable. I genuinely wish we had listened to the previous reviews. Do your research, see the actual unit before signing, and get every promise and price in writing.

The apartments are fully furnished which for me and my friends saved us quite a bit of money and hassle with moving. There is still a decent amount of room to bring your own personal items to make it more homier of course. Rent wise, I found that this was very competitive given the great location and furnishings. I don't want to make this place sound like a palace or nicer than it is but it is by no means a dump. Security wise I found it a bit lacking. Nearly anybody can walk into the building and get into the hallways so make sure you keep your door locked. But overall the area is safe and you don't feel like you're at risk. My biggest criticism is the heating. This place gets terribly cold during the long winters. And there isn't a whole lot of ability to control the temperature in the unit. However heat is built into the rent so there is that.

I was essentially expected to continuously come back and check the locker myself, & direct calls to the leasing office do not go through and you have to wait for someone to call you back. ^ I shouldn't have to repeatedly chase down an issue involving my package because someone couldn't be bothered to take my information or provide any type of follow-up. The only people who have consistently been helpful during my time living here are Isabella and Marissa. They return calls and have helped me locate my packages. And you CANNOT beat the location! I never had to walk more than 15 minutes to get to class or to go to the library. It's right in the middle of everything. Close to all the restaurants when you want to grab a bite to eat. Close to several coffee shops if you want to study outside of your apartment. And most importantly, it's RIGHT above the bars. So when you want to go out with friends or have friends over before going out, it's super convenient. Also, my utilities were always very low as heat was included and I only had to pay for internet, electric, and gas. Something else that really sets this apartment above the rest is staff. It's one guy that operates and maintains the apartments, Ed. But he is always on top of things. I've known so many friends that have lived at big apartment complexes and whenever they had a problem with something, it took months to be addressed and/or for someone to come fix it. With Ed, all you have to do is call and he'll fix whatever it is as soon as possible. The ONLY complaints I have about this apartment are the parking and the laundry. There isn't parking offered for the tenants or their guests at all. If your friends live close by, if you don't have a car, and/or if you rarely use your car this won't be an issue for you. But if you want a car and use a car often it's quite the hassle. There a lot a couple blocks away at which Ed can get you a parking pass for. And it's not much at all to park there each month. I did that during the warmer months. And then during the winter, I paid the higher price to park at the various garages downtown East Lansing. And in regards to the laundry, there is no washer and dryer in the unit or in the building. So you'll have to go over to a friends or go to a laundromat to do laundry. Other than the parking and laundry situations though, I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone!
