Spiders could be cleaned out every time paying customers leave. I would pay the same price for a local hotel & have a much cleaner room, be able to heat or cool my room by controls & a breakfast for free! Local restaurants close early so eat when you get the chance because finding even a convenience store nearby just isn't going to happen. Just put a little effort into maybe some local information, how to warm the room, how the door locks work, etc. Make sure your cleaning staff actually do cleaning! Finding someone's toothbrush on the floor of the bathroom just isn't cool folks! The bathroom was just plain nasty, with the showerhead spraying every which way, a never scrubbed shower floor & mold all over is the worst. The curtains over the window that holds the air conditioner, was so thin, people in the park behind the building, could see right through them. You people in your suburban city setting around the other side of the lake should be ashamed you put so little effort into what could be a really cut memorable place to stay. I have seen (you people from over there) do this before. You think everyone else should be responsible for your investment & you won't make any changes by seeing firsthand just how bad they are. Some people call them "Slum Lords". I let you know of these issues & no response. Good going!

Both cabins we've stayed in offer wall units and one also had a ceiling fan. I think adding ceiling fans to all units would be very beneficial, as well as considering installing central AC. They do offer outdoor seating areas and grills. As well as beach chairs. We definitely love the private beach access and the close proximity to the Whistle Shop and other local shops. Unfortunately due to the climbing age of some of the family and the lack of AC, we will be looking elsewhere next year.

We were a little hesitant because of past reviews on this site (specifically the unit having a smell) but after reviewing the site and talking to the Firefly, we learned the unit was recently purchased by new owners and completely renovated, so we decided to go for it. We we SO happy we did, our summer getaway could not have been better. The unit was pristine, you can tell the couch and bed were new and they were actually comfortable (which is a big deal for me, I am typically really critical of rental unit furniture and I hate having to use it when I am away from home). But I felt really good about using these and I slept very well. The bathroom was lovely, it also felt very clean and newly finished. The kitchen was a little tight but it was ideal for making food to avoid having to go out. I think my absolute favorite part of this cottage was the screened-in porch. Waking up early and getting to listen to the woods and the waves in a protected cove surrounded by tall ferns was magical. I even was lucky enough to see a few fawns! Oh, and there was no smell. I will be coming back!

This inn has key-less doors, so make sure you memorize your codes for both the front door and your room. The front door needs to be locked manually, and your room door stay locked, so burn those numbers into memory or on the mobile phone you have with you. I stayed at the Porter Queen room - nice wood floors, has an A/C unit & heat for supplemental cooling/heating, bed is nice and comfortable without bugs or it being too hard or soft, mini-kitchen was nice for warming up leftovers or what nots, bathroom was basic and did the job nicely - no shampoo or conditioner, but a bar of soap is provided. Towels were provided in decent abundance. Room is nice, albeit a bit spartan. Note that I did the reservation via online, but had to talk to the owner/administrator. I forgot her name, but she was pleasant, and got it paid via credit card over the phone without issue. No one is staffed at the house, and is all dealt with "remotely" - but this works well as I arrived to the house clean, the email instructions very clear, and the room ready. Nearest restaurant or stores are about 5 minutes away if you want food, sundries, etc. I brought leftovers from lunch and that did me fine for the rest of the night. No free breakfast or what nots, unless if you arranged to purchase a snacking "package" with your reservation. Parking for 4-5 vehicles are available in front of the house, cannot comment on the lot a block away. Definitely a good place for some piece of quiet, isolation, or a 2-4 days stay for a couple. No one was apparently there during my stay, so cannot comment if the walls are too thin or if house rules are respected or not. Mobile signals are decent for Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, so no problems with your calls or mobile web browsing. Anyone using the antiquated WiMaxx (Clear & Sprint) will NOT have coverage. Onsite Wifi is available and free, though I could not connect to it for whatever reason. Will come back again! (and sorry for the tl;dr)

I was a little reluctant to stay at a historic mansion, thinking that "historic" might actually mean "run down." That was not the case here at all. The interior is classic, yet modern. We stayed in the Queen Porter Room and it was lovely, quaint and well designed. Our bed was comfortable, and clean. We loved the kitchenette, equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and sink. I love that the proprietors send you a code for the front door and the room door ahead of your stay so you don't have to bother with checking in at a front desk. It really made us feel like we were guests at a country home rather than just customers checking into a hotel. The only downsides: paper thin walls and spotty wireless. We could only get reception in the lounge area on the second floor, but we weren't spending a lot of time online anyway. On our second night there were quite a lot of children running around and screaming. So while it's perfect for a romantic getaway, keep in mind that a lot of families are renting rooms in the summer. Other than that, we loved it! We definitely plan on staying here if we visit again.

The cottages--there are six--are situated on ten acres right off Union Pier Road. Our dog might have had the best time of all--there was plenty of open space to run around and a wonderful moss-covered path at the north end of the property that he loved to sniff around. I'm a cyclist and it's tough to beat the lightly-traveled country roads that are mostly flat and surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Owner Chuck Garasic was both responsive and hospitable. We've already booked a summer 2022 week!

We've never had a bad experience until this year. Chuck, the owner of the resort, was unhappy with the teens in our group, who I admit were loud. So at 10 pm on our 3rd day he stormed into our cottage where 12 people, including three 10 year olds, were playing a card game. He stood there in our living room and yelled at us at the top of his lungs for ten minutes, using the f-bomb. We cut our family reunion short due to the bad feeling after that. Needless to say, we will never go back. To say that Chuck is not a nice person is an understatement, and should not be in the hospitality industry.

You can tell it's a family-owned business, and the couple who runs it clearly works so hard to ensure every guest has a great experience. We recently took a Spring break trip to the west coast and booked through a different management company, which only made us appreciate Bluefish even more. Bluefish goes above and beyond in ways that other companies just don't. It's because of Bluefish that we fell in love with Union Pier, MI--and now that we own a property there, we of course have chosen them to manage it! Getting to work with Bluefish from both sides (as a guest and now as a homeowner) has only deepened our respect and appreciation for how they operate. Their concierge services are also such a bonus, arriving to a fully stocked fridge is a total game changer for families. It takes so much stress out of the travel day and sets the tone for a truly relaxing vacation. Highly, highly recommend!
