It's become a comfortable place for me when visiting back home. I've stayed at great places all over the globe, including a lot of impressive B&Bs (and a few not so impressive!). Arbor Hill Inn is a gem. The rooms are appointed comfortably. They have themes, and from my perspective, are done without being cloying or over the top . The prices are reasonable and the breakfasts are a lovely (and nicely done) way to start the day. The owners and staff are very accommodating and pleasant, and know how to run a place without being intrusive (the house and annex are laid out in a way that one has decent privacy).

She was also very helpful in determining realistically how long our travel from Midway would take! While in residence in Uncle Karl's room, we were treated to freshly baked cookies and tasty breakfasts. The wedding party took over the place and the owners didn't seem to mind at all! Great place for a wedding! Upon returning home, my husband realized he left a club on the golf course! The club was located but the course was not helpful in sending it across the country. Never mind, Laura at Arbor Hills to the rescue! With a bit of online coordination, UPS picked up the club and my husband received it in good time and stead. Talk about the extra mile! Spiders could be cleaned out every time paying customers leave. I would pay the same price for a local hotel & have a much cleaner room, be able to heat or cool my room by controls & a breakfast for free! Local restaurants close early so eat when you get the chance because finding even a convenience store nearby just isn't going to happen. Just put a little effort into maybe some local information, how to warm the room, how the door locks work, etc. Make sure your cleaning staff actually do cleaning! Finding someone's toothbrush on the floor of the bathroom just isn't cool folks! The bathroom was just plain nasty, with the showerhead spraying every which way, a never scrubbed shower floor & mold all over is the worst. The curtains over the window that holds the air conditioner, was so thin, people in the park behind the building, could see right through them. You people in your suburban city setting around the other side of the lake should be ashamed you put so little effort into what could be a really cut memorable place to stay. I have seen (you people from over there) do this before. You think everyone else should be responsible for your investment & you won't make any changes by seeing firsthand just how bad they are. Its fairly isolated from the light pollution and noise…read morefrom the mid to big city congestion one would have to face when staying for an overnight or two, so its fairly silent, aside from an occasional car or truck passing by and a freight train - almost too eerie for my taste. This inn has key-less doors, so make sure you memorize your codes for both the front door and your room. The front door needs to be locked manually, and your room door stay locked, so burn those numbers into memory or on the mobile phone you have with you. I stayed at the Porter Queen room - nice wood floors, has an A/C unit & heat for supplemental cooling/heating, bed is nice and comfortable without bugs or it being too hard or soft, mini-kitchen was nice for warming up leftovers or what nots, bathroom was basic and did the job nicely - no shampoo or conditioner, but a bar of soap is provided. Towels were provided in decent abundance. Room is nice, albeit a bit spartan. Note that I did the reservation via online, but had to talk to the owner/administrator. I forgot her name, but she was pleasant, and got it paid via credit card over the phone without issue. No one is staffed at the house, and is all dealt with "remotely" - but this works well as I arrived to the house clean, the email instructions very clear, and the room ready. Nearest restaurant or stores are about 5 minutes away if you want food, sundries, etc. I brought leftovers from lunch and that did me fine for the rest of the night. No free breakfast or what nots, unless if you arranged to purchase a snacking "package" with your reservation. Parking for 4-5 vehicles are available in front of the house, cannot comment on the lot a block away. Definitely a good place for some piece of quiet, isolation, or a 2-4 days stay for a couple. No one was apparently there during my stay, so cannot comment if the walls are too thin or if house rules are respected or not. Mobile signals are decent for Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, so no problems with your calls or mobile web browsing. Anyone using the antiquated WiMaxx (Clear & Sprint) will NOT have coverage. Onsite Wifi is available and free, though I could not connect to it for whatever reason. Will come back again! (and sorry for the tl;dr)

I was a little reluctant to stay at a historic mansion, thinking that "historic" might actually mean "run down." That was not the case here at all. The interior is classic, yet modern. We stayed in the Queen Porter Room and it was lovely, quaint and well designed. Our bed was comfortable, and clean. We loved the kitchenette, equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and sink. I love that the proprietors send you a code for the front door and the room door ahead of your stay so you don't have to bother with checking in at a front desk. It really made us feel like we were guests at a country home rather than just customers checking into a hotel. The only downsides: paper thin walls and spotty wireless. We could only get reception in the lounge area on the second floor, but we weren't spending a lot of time online anyway. On our second night there were quite a lot of children running around and screaming. So while it's perfect for a romantic getaway, keep in mind that a lot of families are renting rooms in the summer. Other than that, we loved it! We definitely plan on staying here if we visit again.

I felt completely safe and well cared for during my entire stay. The grounds are stunning, with wildlife, a pool, and hot tub adding to the serene, peaceful setting The Denali Treehouse was not only private and cozy but also fully equipped for relaxation. Between soaking in the hot tub, lounging by the pool, and enjoying my own deck, it was the perfect escape. Thank you, Vicky and Scott, for an outstanding experience. I'll definitely be coming back!

When we politely brought it up to the owners, they were nice at first, but then became really rude & accusatory. They also refused to refund us so we left. The hotel also provides bikes to rent but we found that most places are walking distance and the roads/paths are not very bike friendly. Check in was super simple. Our room was very clean and updated. I wish they had smart TVs to connect to Netflix but we didn't spend much time watching TV anyways so it wasn't a big issue. The restaurant did seemed to get a bit noisy at night which drifted up to our room. The breakfast baskets were a BIG hit! The frittatas tasted so good! The fruit cups were also so fresh. I tried the prosciutto croissant on our last day which hit the spot. The quality of food was top notch - just wish we were able to order more! I had an appointment at the spa as well during our stay. The spa staff is super friendly. I used the robe and spa slippers provided in our room and spent some time in the salt water pool and hot tub before my appointment.

They recently opened up The Living Room area in the lobby which has breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks in the evening. They also gave us drink tickets as well to use on coffee or drinks. Breakfast starts at 8am, but I am an early riser and was hoping for a coffee while I watched the sunrise. I did make a tea with the electric kettle in the room. The lobby/Living Room set up is perfect for drinks, not so much for a family having breakfast. They do sell local Michigan snacks, but you have to ask at the front desk and they have to find them. I would've just preferred a vending machine or an easier way to get snacks between 8pm and 8am when the Living Room is not open. The pool and jacuzzi were great, but we did have a hard time finding them. The indoor pool entrance was through an unmarked door on the second floor so it took us a few minutes of exploring to find it. I don't think the indoor pool was heated, but it wasn't too bad. The hotel is very centrally located so it was just a short drive to the beach, restaurants, and shopping.

While the TV had a very good range of channels, the lack of a sleep timer again adds to stars being subtracted. Not having a microwave in regular rooms should be a no no for resort hotels. The food was average at best. Nothing to write home about especially the quiche and the muffins. If they want more stars, it is the little things that matter.
