I decided to further my medical career by attending ABC and acquiring skills, knowledge and Certifications in both Phlebotomy and EKG. Big mistake. I attended the 4 week Fast Track. The very first day it took 3 hours to get situated into a class because the substitute (Ms. N) for the original instructor (Mr. Ortiz) was not ready for the class. She couldn't get a hold of a computer to print the materials. In those 3 hours I was still waiting at the reception area for them to find out which class I was registered to. On the very first day we were told that we would be ready for the midterms, the final and the NHA Exam by the end of the course. So of course my expectations were high. I was not on the roster until week 3. I had to write my name under everyone else and take pictures for proof just incase they tried to say I was not attending. The first 2 weeks we did not have the correct instructor. We never started the classes on time. I learned more in class about war and about the teacher and her personal problems than I did about drawing blood or placing electrodes on a patient. If we were given a test on her life we would ace it. I had to skip lunch break stay in the classroom and teach myself. I had to go home and break night going to sleep around 2-3 am teaching myself because we were not learning anything in class. We took more breaks than we read chapters. When it came to reviewing for the tests and midterms Ms. N would just go through the test itself and basically give us the answer instead of giving us material to study from. Ms. N is very knowledgeable but she is clearly not ready to be an instructor. Then finally the correct instructor came for the last 2 weeks. I was expecting for the students to get some of their money back since there was a substitute for the first 2 weeks (because to request Mr. Ortiz you have to pay extra). Ortiz is definitely a better instructor. He is detailed, organized and straight to the point. But the curriculum forces them to only teach what is going to be on their test/midterm/final. We never finished the book. We left over 3 to 4 Chapters in both the EKG and Phlebotomy books untouched. We even had to redo both the quiz and the midterm. Me teaching myself by reading the books, making notes and preparing a study guide on things I thought were going to be on the exams assured that I pass both classes without having to cheat like the majority of both classes did. This training center is good at teaching how to perform the tasks of drawing blood and placing electrodes for an ekg but not good at preparing students for the exams. Some students were not well prepared or knowledgeable and somehow managed to be certified. I finished my 4 weeks not ready for the NHA which we were told they would prepare us for. For the amount of money I had to pay for this course I can truly say it was not worth it. I really believe it's very unfair that we were not refunded some of our money back. Oh and the certificates come together as one certificate, you have to pay to have 2 individual certificates imagine how money hungry this "school" really is without providing quality. I went threw 2 cancellations trying to learn medical coding. There quick to just take your money and quick to hire any teacher with no real teaching experience. I mean this guy was so bad, for class assignments I would come up with a code and this guy didn't even have the same answer. But takes my answers and act like it's all the same type of code. This guy would play it off like he knows what he's doing and he really doesn't. After my experience with the ABC Training program I wouldn't go back and I plan to always talk down about the whole experience to anyone & everybody who ask me. Take my word for it. Originally, really liked this school. It wasn't until the end and after that I had a problem with it. Pros: The woman at the front desk is wonderful and helps you figure out your plan/payments etc Mr. Eddie is an AMAZING instructor. We learned so much from him that we were afraid to go to the bathroom during his class for fear of missing vital information Cons: 1. The CNA class expects you to attend a skills class AFTER class to learn the skills you'll need in the field. what is the class for if I have to go AFTER class to learn the real info? The course isn't rocket science. It should be book before lunch and skills after. I paid for a class and went 9-4. In college, you learn everything you need to IN class. Skills should be taught in the hours that class is offered. Its what we pay for. 2. The Phlebotomy and EKG education was amazing. But I took the nationals and there was A LOT that we never learned. I was top of my class on all exams and still had a lot of trouble with the exam. we were told we are not diagnosticians and don't need to know how to diagnose issues/arrhythmias, etc. nearly the ENTIRE ekg portion of the national exam was showing pictures of ekg strips and asking which arrhythmia it was. I was never asked about the majority of ekg information I learned, like placement of leads or how to count the strip etc. We never learned how to read a BAD heart ekg. We practiced EKG on each other. We needed to learn how to understand problems with the person's heart, not just artifacts. Because now, if i see a problem, I'm just going to assume it was my placement or the machine. I have no idea how to tell if it is actually the person's heart. 3. Instructors really make job opportunities sound better than they are. They're linked with a place that will set you up for CNA...for minimum wage. why go to school when I can make the same amount at mcdonalds? We were also told by an instructor that we can get into a hospital with no experience making $28 an hour as PCT. That was DEAD WRONG. Its extremely difficult to find a job. I've been looking since november and I even have a degree. They want you to work 6 months to a year as a CNA before you can get into a hospital. so going to school for PCT is POINTLESS until you have been a CNA for a while. 4. Clinicals... terrible. there's only clinical for CNA. My friend's school has clinical for PCT which would be WAY better bc we wouldn't lose our skills..and its at a nursing home. I learned nothing. the supervisor didnt even ask. he just checked the boxes as if we learned everything. I learned how to feed people and change sheets. THATS IT. No catheter care, no bathing, no diaper changes, not even lifting people etc. & the patients were severely neglected. 9-4 and not a single person was taken out of a wheelchair or changed. they ate two meals..they would be soiled by then. and what about pressure sores from sitting ALL DAY. It was breakfast, tv room, lunch, tv room every single day. I was so depressed being there. Idk how the school does not know what a terrible institution they send people to for "learning experience" I'm very upset that they make you believe you can find a PCT position without CNA experience. You cannot. 4 months of applying to EVERY job listing and still NO ONE in my class has found a job. At this point, I feel like my money was wasted. The staff at the school are great. But the school overall does not prepare students properly for the NHA or for the job search and does not provide enough training/experience with actual skill lear update in response: I doubt anyone complained to staff because he was nice and genuinely wanted us to learn so no one wanted to rock the boat but everyone (especially females) talked about how they felt uncomfortable with the sexual innuendos. I liked most of the staff there. They were very nice. But the lack of actual hands on practice for cna was very upsetting. And the EKG course NEEDS to teach the students how to read arrhythmia's and understand real heart issues, bc the NHA tests on it. And you need to find better clinical sites. I was so depressed. I felt so terrible for the patients who were so neglected. It made me never ever want to be a CNA. And there is no help for finding a PCT job and no one from my class has found one in nyc. not even a clinical for PCT for practice. I feel like the school would be great if they fixed these issues but I feel like we spent so much time, effort and money with little results. read more

So I was just previously a student at ABC my name is Demi never mind the name attached to the review it's a name I used to make google account! But in all honesty I gave ABC this many stars not because it's good school but because it has a great teacher /instructor name Diane Meekins she is the instructor of the PCT / advanced nursing assistant course and for her alone they get four stars but for her I'll give her plus stars !! She's amazing !! We actually learned a lot with her and keep in mind this is a accelerated program !! But the way she teaches you allows you to retain her info and actually learn !! She is teaching from experience !! She is a Nurse for 20 plus years she's wonderful and a joy to learn from and makes you want to show up for class everyday excited to learn now don't get me wrong she's fun and will joke but she means Business when it's time to learn !! She's on time ever day and despite what she got going on she never missed a day !! She gone tell you like it is and teach you what you need to know !! She doesn't even need the book !! She is the book !! The school itself on the other hand does not give the instructors much to work with all the money they take in they could def do better with the supplies and better clinical sites aswell as bring back the graduation which they took away do to Covid but that was. Over a year ago so what's the excuse now !! The bathrooms are horrible and always crowded !! There is no cafeteria or water fountain. To drink from I mean what kind of school doesn't have a water fountain but all and all most of the staff is Great but no of them are like ms Meekins ms Meekins is the absolute fucking best !!! This is the bartending school to attend. It is affordable, well taught, straight forward and organized. The ABC Training center is located near two train stations and is easily found. I participated in the Full Time week and I learned more than I could have imaged. The teacher was experienced, knowledgable, patient, entertaining, and respectful throughout the entire training course. We went through the training thoroughly and focused on making sure that every single person in the class was on the same page, literally and mentally. This program is the ABC Training Center boutique program, but they still have the facility and the faculty that make this course time and cost effective. In short, this course was absolutely wonderful. BUT REMEMBER, you must work hard. You get what you put into it and bartending is no joke. Memorization, listening, asking questions... are all part of the experience since the test is no joke. read more

I admit, I was very skeptical about this place upon research. First, under $200 ($199) for 40 hours. Second, location: Bronx, NY. Third, in comparison to other, more expensive, schools I just thought there would be no way that this place wasn't a rip off. However, it was great to learn and experience how to make cocktails. The rules of the basics, as well as catchy little phrases that instructor, Duval, instilled in students in his night class were fun. A plus is that 2 days before examination, which is usually held on a friday, students have the opportunity to practice serving real drinks to real customers in a real bar for open bar night. The only downside to this 40 week course is that it is fake, food coloring, alcohol - which makes sense for a company that wants to save money. All in all, trust this place if you want a legit bartending license. I felt the need to write a review to get this school more exposure! My wife took the pharmacy tech course for $900 and she enjoyed the great teaching methods. Ms. Smith was great and only goods things was all I heard from her. She is probably the best for your buck$. Here is the bad part of this review...... My wife completed the course a month and half ago and is still not employed as pharmacy tech. She even paid $80 for the background check so she can work as a externship at one of the Walgreens that abc Training Center is affiliated with... and a FYI..... my wife doesn't anything negative on her background check not even A PARKING TICKET!!!!! She is still getting in contact with the job assistant employee named Giovani..... and he does is send you links to fill out application NOT JOB REFERRALS..... the other employees in abc seem to know what's going on. Maybe the reason why there is so much turn around in staff. These people are not on top of there game and if you are like me... who had to save the money a month in advance to pay for the course , make sacrifices in budget cuts, hire child care , and cover traveling expenses cause you see it as a investment......... well good luck you'll probably end up in square-1... But, if you just want the certificate and to get prepped for ptcb test then this is the place to go. Or, if your looking for a place to donate your money and time. I came to this school over a year ago. Initially I went for the billing/coding course but by October they had opened their AAPC accredited course for coding. I decided to enter that instead. It was new, it had a few setbacks (such as delay in books) but we made due and were able to get them when we really needed them. Our instructor was Sherell Hamilton, whom I consider a mentor at this point. She is beyond helpful, she knows exactly what she's talking about (because she's not just an instructor, she also works as a coder). I still speak with her from time to time to this day. All of the materials are directly from the AAPC and even the exam is held there. I was well prepared for the exam, I passed it on my first try. Then afterwards I was directed to talk with the career coordinator Genesis. She got me into a program with Jacobi Medical Center that educated me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. I am now on track to work. (I want to note that you cannot be guaranteed a job regardless of where you get your education, but if you stay on the career center you can get opportunities into the hospital) read more

I took the bartending class and at first I was skeptical because of the price. Other known schools were much more expensive, but I took the chance because it was local and the previous reviews sounded promising. I'm so glad I took the chance because the school is amazing and the teachers are amazing. Each teacher has been in the business for over 15 years. Not only do they educate you on the history of each liquor and the basics of bartending such as counting and pouring, but they prepare you for real life situations. Because of their experience in the industry they are able to call out drinks the way a real person would, and call out the specific liquor they want in their drink, while ordering 2 other drinks at the same time, all the while the classroom is blasting with music as if in a real bar. It's actually a lot harder than it looks or sounds. Coming into the class, I did not think it was going to be as challenging as it was. This class is not for the lazy. The teachers are serious about their craft. I would highly recommend this school to anyone in the bronx. read more

This bartending school is legit. I thought I was going to get some really old bartending teacher who didnt know what they were doing and teach us some outdated styles of bartending. But noooo!!!! You get a young teacher really attractive (if you take the morning class) who has lots of experience and really knows what she is doing. The class is not boring, Tina really helps to make the class fun and interesting. The class is hands on from the first day you get behind the bar and start practicing. I have to say I was really skeptical about going here because the price was so much cheaper than other bartending schools but I was impressed. You also get to go to a real bar and make drinks for real customers to get a feel of how it is to bartend. You learn all the basics you need to know about bartending in 2 weeks. And they also help build your resume. I would recommend this school to anyone in the new york area who wants to be a bartender. Ms Meekins makes sure the entire class is understanding of the content as well as comfortable to take our upcoming state boards. She encourages us to read the notes she provides and our text books in order to assist us with understanding the content as she reviews it in class. I understand that they keep the safety deposit of $100 but i paid extra and I never went to any of the classes , I asked for a refund before classes started so that means the books are brand new and they SHOULD refund that money back to me .., it doesn't state anywhere in the documents that I received and sign that I would have to wait weeks for a REFUND OF MY MONEY . They're scammers . The classes are 4wks long for pharmacy technician and it's going on the 3rd week and I still haven't received my refund .. they haven't even sent out the request . & Act as if they don't care . They think I will just go away and forget about the money they owe me back . I feel sorry Bc I seen a stack of other request forms for money back from other people who haven't received their money back yet when I went in to get a copy of mine for legal purposes . they think they can get away with not Refunding me my money BACK & ILL TAKE THEM TO COURT AND GET WHATS OWED TO ME . I did the medical coding(CPC) course, which I loved! I did pass my AAPC CPC exam but as a new coder it is very difficult to find employers that are willing to give you the opportunity to gain experience. I wish you were affiliated with some healthcare companies what would give us new coders that opportunity. I did also check out the Project Xterns in AAPC website but have had no luck with an externship opportunity either. :( read more

Phlebotomy Course Only Review: When I first applied for the Phlebotomy course at their Morris location, the guy told me that the class would be held 'just around the corner'. That's pretty vague if you ask me. If you walked out of the office, there WAS an actual 'around the corner' area you could go to! I had to actually call back to verify whether classes were being held on Morris or Fordham. Turns out, classes are normally held at their Fordham location, which is outside the building and around the corner, by T-mobile. In any case, the class was dry and the book was read from, verbatim. It's not like I learned anything new that wasn't directly from the book. The first two weeks, you read from the book. The last two weeks, you are constantly drawing blood from your classmates. I enjoyed the hands on weeks more because you finally utilized everything you learned from the book and put it into action! You get comfortable with the procedures very quickly. Classes were small (maybe 15 - 20 people) in a cramped room that doesn't look very clean. I don't think that they necessarily prepare you enough for the certification exam, so I highly suggest that you either study your butt off before the certification exam, and/or purchase the study guide that NHA offers from their sister company when you sign up for certification. Study everything! Tips: 1. NHA offers certification exams on certain Fridays of every month for this location and the cut off time to sign up is 2 weeks before the certification exam date. Ex: My course ended on January 10, so it was too late to sign up for the certification exam on January 17. If I wanted to get certified right away, I should've already signed up long before my course ended. 2. After you pass all exams and attend all classes, it can take up to 10 days before your certificate is ready to be picked up at the Fordham location. Verify in advance that they have it ready by calling. You MUST come pick it up as they will not mail it out. Don't wait until exam day to get it because they might not have it ready and you will be sent home for not having all the paperwork necessary on exam day...UNLESS they are nice enough to print out your certificate the day of if they don't already have it printed out and ready for you. I wouldn't chance it...so pick it up prior to the exam! 3. Though it is not clearly stated, once you sign up for your certification exam, you MUST bring your ID, your certificate, your receipt/proof of purchase of the certification exam that clearly states the exam date (should have been emailed to you), your social security card in case, and number 2 pencils. 4. You must CALL ABC Training Center in order to find out what time you need to show up for the exam. Nothing will be emailed to you in regards to the time. Although they don't quite prepare you enough for the certification exam, they do offer additional tools to prepare. I mean, it's your responsibility anyhow! They do prepare you quite well for the actual drawing technique though, which is extremely important. ABC Training Center is one of the only vocational schools I know of that will allow you to come back to continue drawing blood to get even more practice even though you already 'graduated'. That's an amazing bonus opportunity allowing you to hone your skills and everyone should take advantage of this! Plus 1 star just for this alone! read more

This school really sucks first of all they run you down for the payments as if you don't know that if you don't pay them you wont get your certificate. Second I did medical billing and coding I finished eight months ago and i still haven't gotten an internship and i cant get a job because i have no experience even though i am certified.
