The roots were exposed above the ground and a lot underground. Dan came by and gave us a reasonable estimate. We weren't in a hurry and he said he would find an available time in the near future. He showed up a few weeks later. We did not have to call him again like we have had to do with many contractors who promise and then never show. He and his helper got the big root grinder off his trailer and started the nasty, dusty job. He spoke with me before he started going over exactly what we wanted and he made suggestions which we agreed to. Then he did exactly what we agreed to. He used protective boards to avoid sending rock and/or pieces of roots in to our house, fence, or shrubs. They cleaned up the pieces including the rocks that we have in our yard all over. He then scheduled the work as he promised to do, in a time suitable for us and your crew. The onsite crew arrived as expected and checked with us when they first arrived, introduced themselves by name, and looked over the job with us before they started. We appreciated them doing this which was good for us and for them, so both could agree beforehand on the expectations for the job, so each had no surprises. While they worked on the job we had occasion to ask about certain things or request minor things, which they were very receptive to talking about and did their best to handle. Because they had given their names, it was easier to approach them when it was necessary, and they were receptive to our inquiries in a positive way. This is very important in my mind. I know there is a fine balance, but If crews react badly or are difficult to approach, this can lead to a less than desirable relationship and impact the job and customer satisfaction, But this didn't happen with Bartlett.
