Fair point -- I went back to the attorney who drafted it, had them add my name in the body, and confirmed the document complied with California notary law . Came back later in the day with the revised document. Rudy looked at it and said "something seems off." That was the entire explanation. No identification of what was off, no specific provision he objected to, no questions about my ID or the underlying transaction. Just refused. Took the same document to another commissioned California notary that same day. They reviewed it, verified my ID, administered the oath, and notarized it without any issue. Two visits, two trips back to my attorney for revisions he requested, and ultimately a vague refusal with no actionable feedback. A notary's job is to verify identity and witness an oath. If specific concerns exist, communicate them clearly so they can be addressed. "Something seems off" after you've already made the customer revise the document once isn't professional -- it's wasting their time.

Nonetheless, it was a very smooth process. We basically sat there, small talked, and we were finished in less than 30 minutes. No major time consuming financial questions were ask because we provided all necessary documentation. After all the information was added, we confirmed all of our information. The best part about our experience was the knowledge we gained from working with someone like Javier. We were unsure of how our responses on tax forms made a difference in our return so for Javier to make sense of that us was worth it.
