It was like stepping back in time to a 19th century French atelier. Hans Schuler had Howard Sill build him a private sculpture studio in 1906. Schuler was a prominent, early 20th century sculptor, who created many sculptures in Baltimore, and served as president of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) for more than 25 years. The school, which opened in 1959, has been training students in the methods and techniques of the Old Masters and is still going strong. We were able to see the two story sculpture studio with its natural light pouring in thru the northern skylight. We were given a delightful tour by Jim and spent time talking with Fritz and Francesca, descendants of Hans and Ann Schuler.

She previously attended the online classes but there is nothing like in person instruction. They offer classes several days a week and on Saturdays for various age ranges, even for adults. Parents must be present at the door at pick up and drop off so I don't have to worry about my daughter's safety. Supplies are included in the price for newly registered students. That fee is waived for returning students. It's located right on Reisterstown Rd. There is not much street parking but there is a small lot located behind the building. From the front it looks like a house. I am not sure how it looks inside, as I have only been at the front door for check in and pickup.

The jewelry center offers classes, workshops and studio space to both new and established designers. As you walked into the center's gallery, you could admire the creative work of some of the jewelers. The work was intricate and lovely. They were having a class when we were there, so we only peeked into that room. They do offer space for anyone who wants to create beautiful jewelry. It was an interesting stop on Doors Open Baltimore.

I can't believe it but I've taken four classes here, three weekend workshops and then a longer…read moremulti-week intensive. I had heard about this place on WYPR and thought it might be interesting. The most I'd ever done regarding jewelry is stringing beads - really creatively, mind you! But what they're teaching here is well beyond that and geared to getting you to a much more professional level of craft. I had never worked at such a mini scale. When I signed up for the first class, a weekend workshop with a guest teacher from out of town, I thought it was a bit pricey. But the amount I learned, and the new challenges I faced and overcame with the help of the teacher, was really amazing. The second weekend workshop was more theory and discussion than hands-on, so I wasn't as jazzed, and in reality, I didn't learn as much. The third class I took was the 12-week Intro to Metals and Jewelry with teacher Jenn Parnell. It also was amazing! She is patient, organized, and thorough! The three projects were challenging but engaging. I watched all the students, including myself, become frustrated (during the soldering phase) but then make the leap into the ease of having somewhat-mastered a new skill. My fourth class was a weekend workshop on stone setting with Erica Bello. We learned four setting techniques and I was surprised that we were able to get to each one - and produce samples of each technique. It was very cool! The studio is professionally equipped, well maintained, and safe. The environment is mostly adult - though a couple times when I went in outside of class time, there were students who were behaving like high schoolers... Luckily, the space is large enough that you can just move to a bench further away. The two studio managers, April and Erica, are helpful and professional. Instructors are both well informed and inspiring. A couple things I think they should do are have a quick orientation of the space and point out what is where, explain studio rules, and perhaps have all these things on handouts. My first class, I was the only newbie, and everyone else had their own tools and was very familiar with the BJC - I felt VERY much like an outsider with an unfair disadvantage. Another thing, it would be great if we students could work with unlimited time for the very last class day - a win-win for all. Students get their projects (closer to) finished and the BJC gets happy students. A great resource for Baltimore - more people should be taking advantage of this local gem!

I was pleasantly surprised. Tavish is such a great, respectful, inclusive teacher and has a well-rounded background in both theatre and comedy. If you are looking for a rounded, nurturing daycare or learning facility this maybe your selection…read more After endless seemingly interviews and checks of facilities a year ago; we decided on this facility. Many places have interviews and times that you can visit to check out the center; however, this facility actually have you and the child come in for the kid to be with the kids to see if this is a fit for you, the child and the school. Its like a few hours. We did select this facility as it accomodating and structured with an education/schooling instead of just babysitting. They assist with potty training and early childhood learning. Socializing as well as nurturing. Pictures and videos are uploaded into a portal for parents to view during the day. The portal is also a written means of communication that is not meant to be the only line of communicating. The cost varies according to age and days needed (part time or full time). The children receive breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks. However, when we pick our kid up she is always very hungry. There is a no outside food policy to assure of those with food allergies having a safe environment (especially peanut allergies). Ms. Tia was especially great as she was my Kiddo's first teacher and was very nurturing and loved by the kiddies. She took pride into the class and sanitizing it. Ive noticed once Ms. Tia left the class that level of sanitizing didnt occur. Although its a nice clean facility Id like to see more thorough cleaning of the toys and play areas. Ive walked into the class (2yr) and it smelled awful. I walked in om a kiddo sick and puking everywhere including the carpet. The carpet couldnt have been sanitized properly. The staffing has been turning over and seemingly no consistency. However, there are still some shining constant faces for the kids. I may not have given 5 stars but I still believe this is a good place for your child to grow, learn and be safe. The kids have outside time, circle time, Spanish, Science and more. This is a tv/ electronic free facility and is perfect for growing little minds. Check them out and see the abundance that I couldnt put in this review.

If you are looking for an in-person school field trip for students, do not choose Snapology…read more Snapology's concept is GREAT, but what was offered could have been of better quality and execution. Snapology is overpriced with subpar materials. For a minimum of 50 students, the school was charged $750, for any additional students the cost was $15 per add-on. Snapology was to arrive at the school for a noon setup with pre-k and kindergarten students participating in the building activity from 12:30-2 pm. Snapology sent two staff members who did not represent Snapology with joy and excitement. When the two young ladies arrived they came with two rolling carts with shoe box totes of legos. As I greeted them, I asked if there was anything I needed to do. They said I needed to place the students in groups of five so that they would be able to go to the 10 Lego stations. When we arrived at the GYM small stations were created on the floor (no tables were ever requested or suggested for this activity via Snapology). As the students came, I began to usher students into the GYM along with school staff members and parents with no direction from the Snapology team. We had NO clue what to DO! The two staff members never gave us an introduction, a greeting, or guidance to get STARTED! So teachers and parents started managing stations with students. About 10 min. into the activity, a rotation was supposed to take place (no timer to be heard, no communication between school staff and SNAPOLOGY. One Snapology member moving clockwise and another moving counterclockwise. Now children are CONFUSED! Now we have 50+ with no direction moving around excitedly. At this point, I decided to have students FREELY explore the stations! Before the activity was over, I noticed the staff members cleaning up. Wait a minute we still have 30 minutes! They put the earthquake machine away, 2 green Lego mats, and a Lego bin. I see one staff take a creation from a student's hands now I am annoyed. Now it's time to ask for clarity. I spoke to one of the staff members in the hallway and was less than excited with her response. This is an easy activity that can easily be executed at your school for a FRACTION OF THE COST! Buy Legos and connector place them inbins now you have SNAPOLOGY!
