The park takes its name from the fresh water marshes, also called savannas that used to line Florida's coast. This park contains the largest freshwater marsh in southeast Florida. I entered the park at the trailhead on Jensen Beach Boulevard but there is an Environmental Education Center at 2541 SE Walton Rd, Port St. Lucie. The center is open Thursday through Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m while Savannas Preserve State Park is open every day from 8 AM to sunset. There is a lock box where you insert you $3 cash admission. Located adjacent to the parking lot is a picnic pavilion and restrooms. From the parking lot I took the white trail which connects to trails north of Walton road. Unfortunately trail conditions become submerged during parts of the year which was the case when I visited. I took off my shoes and went barefoot and attempted the trail anyway. The grass was very soft in the dry parts but I finally lost the trail in the water at the turnoff for the marsh overlook. I found myself in the middle of the water and after seeing the alligator sign at the start of the trail I decide it wasn't such a good idea to be there and headed back. I still got a good over a mile hike in. I need to come back when the trail is dried out. Although I didn't see any animals, bobcats, deer, the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, alligators, Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, Great Blue Heron, and the endangered Florida Scrub-jay all make their home in the park. I was the only one on the trail and it was very peaceful and quiet. Savannas Preserve State Park offers canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Wildlife enthusiasts and photographers can enjoy the diverse habitat and undisturbed solitude. They are 8 miles of trails for use by equestrians and hikers.

What a nice surprise. Growing up, both sides of Indiantown was wild lands, and now barely any is left. Like most scrub parks, there is a gate to keep gopher tortoises in. Most of these parks look the same in the beginning: scrub habitat. I was shocked when my kids pulled open the maps in the entrance kiosk to find a picture of a manatee. Yes, apparently manatees have been spotted here in cooler weather. The scrub didn't last long before our paved pathway became a wooden boardwalk across one of the more beautiful swampy areas I have ever seen. Beautiful, as in: it looked healthy. Back on the paved path again, we came to a fork without any signs and no indication on our map of what the fork was for. To the left is a short path to a bench overlooking the swamp. To the right is a slightly longer path leading to a wooden overlook with 2 benches on it, overlooking an offshoot of the Loxahatchee River (Jones Creek). The view is beautiful and peaceful, but we definitely did not see any water creatures. We did see a bunny. The non-paved trail was seriously overgrown and neglected. Without the wooden trail markers with the yellow paint circles, we would have been lost. Despite the park abutting such a major road as Indiantown, it was easy to feel engulfed in the wildness. I did observe A LOT of human-sized non-paved paths going off into the forest that were not official trails, and this is pretty unusual. It is normal to see gopher tortoise paths, but human-made paths are pretty rare - as they should be! My son kept begging me to follow them; no way! I felt extremely weary being alone in the woods amongst multiple signs of human habitation, including t-shirts littering the ground in a couple of places (including the scrub in the parking lot). I hope the the District will read this review and respond with some follow up, as I don't feel comfortable returning here for this reason alone, as much as it was beautiful. PARKING: A bike rack, a bus spot, a handicapped spot, and 3 regular spots.

The parking lot is small but since I was the only person there it wasn't problem. Jupiter acquired this land in 2005. The preserve is gated to protect the endangered gopher tortoises who reside inside. Most of the preserve is paved before meeting with a 300 foot wooden boardwalk. There is also a sandy trail that goes through the scrub. The trail takes you to an observation platform over Jones Creek which runs off the Loxahatchhe River. You could see wading birds in the mangroves lining the creek bank. Besides the gopher tortoises other animals that have been recorded here are the little blue heron, eastern diamond-backed rattlesnake, wood stork, and bald eagle. Plants that have been found are the common wild pine, giant wild pine, butterfly orchid, and large flowered rosemary. Five acres of invasive plants have been removed. In addition to the scrub ecosystem there are six other ecosystems present including a tidal marsh and mangrove swamp. Delaware Scrub is just one of eight natural areas in close proximity. If you happen to be in the area this is a easy way to get in some fresh air and exercise without too much exertion. It is especially worth paying a visit when the weather is colder as manatees have been spotted in Jones Creek.

12:30om, 3/18/2026…read more Ambience = Steady, lunch crowd in the bar. Yet not phonetic or chaotic. Good, chill vibe. 4-5 high top tables for two. At the bar- nice personal space and hooks for purses. Nice place to perch my feet and store my obnoxiously long golf umbrella. Perfect atmosphere for a chilly, rain date lunch with spouse. Balance of business professionals, "ladies who lunch", and a few couples. The bar reminds me a of nicer Las Vegas resort hotel bar. One TV showing Golf TV. Food = We've eaten at J.Alex since their soft open moons ago. The dishes are always consistent quality. Today hub's was jonesing for a French dip. I was craving their Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich. We both order their shoestring fries. We're slowly enjoyed each other's company and our lunches. We immensely enjoyed our meals. Service = Good. Our bartender didn't offer his name, and we weren't on our game to ask his name. However, he did a good job. He quickly came over and put down black napkin placemats with napkin rolled utensils and offered water while we skimmed the menu. Beverages were served quick. Food order quick and complete. We never had to ask for extra sides as he brought them all out with the meals- ketchups (If you like an abundant serving, ask when you place your order. They use small 2 oz stainless steel ramekins.), horseradish sauce, a side of blue cheese (to dip my fries in ), and my Nashville hot sauce on the side. Check came quick too. We ask and learned that they do not offer a Happy Hour. However, they offer very large pour martinis with a side car waiting for you for the price of one. He said late afternoons they have very happy and loyal regulars! We've been dining at "J.A." since their soft open many moons ago. They have always offered well trained staff. We've been here as parties of two, parties of up to 8, and as times with infants, to toddlers, to elementary school age peeps to seniors who many need a little extra consideration with seating. J.Alexander's has always offered great service. However, for some with low vision may find the back of the restaurant a little dark. Bathrooms are clean. There is an outside, screened over bar area as well. My extra bullet points: Value = Yes! High quality, consistent food, great staff and fair price for the experience. The BIG question: Will we return? Yes! We are every other month "regulars". During COVID, they were able to pivot their business to keeping their doors up keeping people employed and offered service to the community. HIGH GIVE! We'll be back. Cheers! Tip: Be sure to make reservations especially during holiday weekends, PGA golf classic weekends and "Season" for tables. If they're booked, Bonefill Grill is directly next door as "back up". Get there early for parking as the lot fills up fast for dinner with several restaurants sharing the same lot. Perfectly located between 95 and TPK, for family dinners if coming from PSl or South county or Broward.

His crew were also extremely good guys. Chance was always there to answer my text and or emails. However, the work itself was awful. Everything from the kitchen was suppose to be individually cleaned and placed into a box due to the toxicity of the fire smut. However everything was just tossed (literally) into boxes. Broken glassware among other things. Some items were just placed in random spots in the garage. I've been finding them for 4 months now. Nothing was cleaned well, most items still had the powder from the fire extinguisher. Staples were left in the wall, crown molding was damaged, paint was damaged from the tape used, and the adhesive was left on wall & floors. After everything was said and done, the toxicity test still showed an elevated level. All that being said, when I contacted a claim adjuster they said they heard of fides, and he does great work, just not for fires. Which was my experience.
