My research included driving out and having a look around at the kennel (these guys will happily show you around - tick) asking other friends who have had their dogs and cats stay and the final tick for me was when I asked my vet where he put his dogs. Yep. All roads pointed back to the Samford Pet Resort. They aren't cheap but the place is clean, with lots of staff and our doggy has always come back, happy, healthy and WASHED! I like that three is the option to get reports emailed to you, plus you can pay for extra walks and play time. The report card at the end of your pets holiday (always glowing for our pup of course) also says that each animal gets attention. They always book fast for holiday periods so plan ahead if you can.

Finding Paddington Pups was the result of a google search and a telephone call where a pleasant young man on the other end told me, "If you can bring him in this morning we can see him." I'd been searching for a new groomer for our pampered pooch after a less than desirable cut just before Winter. All I wanted this visit was a general tidy up, wash and dry (his visits to the salon sound all too much like mine!). Paddington Pups were able to see Dutch that day and it worked out cheaper than our usual salon. Cheaper doesn't always equal better but upon being reunited with my pup a few hours later it sure was in this case. The groomer had heard everything I said and trimmed his face without making him look like a dog without any facial hair. His feet were tidied and there was no great length taken off the rest of his coat. And while I'm yet to make use of it, they also have doggy-day care on site as well as a small range of pet food and toys.

I visited several kennels before my vet recommended Five Star and none of them stacked up to the wonderful environment Paul and Tracey have at their home and kennels in Springwood. Kennels makes it sound so drab and is almost the wrong way to describe their property. It's a pet resort. There's plenty of room for the dogs to roam and play with other dogs (they match them to a 'buddy' for the duration of their stay). We were able to go and inspect the property before booking, and our dog has stayed with them twice now. He loves it. On his second stay there he raced to Paul as soon as we got him out of the car. We pay a small fee on top of the daily rate for our pooch to stay inside the house with Paul and Tracey and it's worth each cent. He comes home happy as Larry. I also like that we can text them for quick updates on how he is doing while we're away. It really is a small peace of mind while you're away. They have strict drop off and pick up times - which I respect - especially when you're orchestrating the number of four legged friends they are. I would have no hesitation in sending any friends with dogs to Paul and Tracey at Five Star.

It sits apart from the rest of the Centre, next to the Indooroopilly Laundromat. There is years of professionalism in this place and a busy stream of pooches going in and coming out with bling and fluff. They treat the animals well with respect and care. Affordable and friendly. You can just tell that the doggies love this place, maybe it's social too? Lots of cute accessories if you have the wee fluffy type of dog. :) Open 6 days a week and always busy near holiday times. This pet shop is oddly placed on the mostly industrial Pickering St, however they're not kidding…read morewhen they claim to have everything dog. They have an extensive range of beds, bowls, leashes (big range of Puppia harnesses), medication, toys, treats, grooming aides - pretty much everything you'd need. The prices seem pretty reasonable too. Up the back are the puppies. They were pretty vocal when I was there, but the cages looked large and clean and nothing smelled bad. What I really liked was how the puppies were behind a gate, with big signs asking you to get a sales assistant if you wanted to look. All the cages had signs warning not to touch as the puppies aren't fully vaccinated yet. I know that your average pet shop wouldn't take that much care with a puppy's health so I took that as a good sign. They also do grooming, I have my dog booked in for the works package - she's about 8 kg's and they're charging me $55 for hydrobath, clip, toenails and ears. With optional bow (I said no, my dog is a Pomeranian cross and already looks girly enough).

You can't pet them unless you're serious about buying one, and you have to spray your hands with sanitiser before they let you near a pup. We weren't even in the market for a puppy. The second time we came here, we bought one. How silly of us, but do we regret it? 6 years later, he is the best puppy we have ever gotten. The only one we have ever bought together actually. They don't get their dogs from puppy farms here, but from breeders from Melbourne and Sydney. The puppies are flown in, dates are on their websites as to which breeds are expected when, and they are super strict about disease control, vaccination and worming. Chipping as well if you want that too prior to picking your pup up. This little centre is pretty surprisingly popular, most popular breeds like your labradoodle and pug go pretty quickly as soon as they arrive (pre-order your pups apparently) and you can trust that you will get papers and a good legit non-puppy farmed dog from here, unlike other places. To top it off, they have cat, bird and other pet supplies too, a great range of leads, collars and toys for your best friend. Really love this place!

Lola (the dog) has been shedding fur like crazy all summer, so we also got her a de-moulting/de-shedding treatment. In total it cost $55 for all of this. The doggy spa is a big room out the back where all the dogs wait for their treatments, and then get spoilt rotten and pampered. Lola was a bit scared when we handed her leash to the girl, but when we returned an hour later, she was totally loving the staff and this place. There were lots of other dogs for her to play with too. The Pet Pad offers other services including Pawdicures (pedicure for the paws!), Pet Day Care (either a half or full day of toys, treats, games, soft beds, in-house movies and loads of snuggles, awwww), Dog walking, Pet sitting and even house calls! The owner Emma is a serious pet lover and offers a luxurious service for your pets. Lola came out smelling so clean and lovely!

A Google search for "dog groomer brisbane" led me to many a website but none of them quite made me feel comfortable in my decision to let them groom my dog as The Pet Pad. Knowing the suburb it operates in, I knew there'd be no way the pooches of New Farm and surrounds would continue to visit here if they weren't good at what they do. I dropped him off yesterday for a "feet, face and tail" grooming session and after showing the staff member a photo of past grooming disasters to demonstrate what I didn't want, I knew, from her facial expression, we were on the same page. Less than an hour later I was on my way back to pick him up. The grooming a success. He still looked like a dog and not an old man with mutton chops. But like Sun E said in her review, the price is so very reasonable for the service. I would have expected I'd be parting with a lot more for the quality of grooming he received. Plus he bounded out to the car happy as Larry. A win all round. See you in a few months, Pet Pad!

They sell dog beer at Ashgrove Pet Cafe. It's sitting on the front counter, looks like an elegant…read morebottle of human beer in design but has dogs on the label. (Sorry, it's non-alcoholic.) Then, behind the counter, there's a row of flea tablets lined up like cigarette packets. Glancing at the beer and tablet line-up, I felt like I was in the equivalent of a dream toy shop for dogs where they also sell beer and smokes. This large store sells an insane amount of toys for your pet. There's stuff for cats, birds, fish and other pets, but as I have a dog it was mostly dog-specific products I focused on. The dog selection seemed to take up a large proportion of the store, and there's even a dog (a surprisingly docile Chihuahua) that sleeps on the front counter. (He's six, called Louis, and likes pats but not being held.) Besides a huge selection of toys - so much you can't take it all in in one visit - there's other stuff to pimp out your pet, including a doggy clothing rack if your pet is that way inclined. The Pet Cafe also boasts a wide range of health foods for dogs, particularly those suffering from health issues (e.g. calcium deficiency, obesity - general medical issues that also seem common to humans). The store stocks both Science Diet and Advance food and health products. In terms of The Unhealthy, the front counter showcases an assortment of doggy cookies and chocolates (actually made of carob) that are home-made looking. They weren't as expensive as I thought they'd be, but I'd bought enough stuff here already. The counter staff were also incredibly friendly and chatty, which you'd gather from a business where there is a resident pet.

Katie in particular was just so kind and caring and full of great ways to help Snoopy settle in with us and gave us some samples of food to try him on as he's had been very fussy and nervous about eating. It's helped us a lot as buying a big bag of biscuits and him not eating any of them was a real worry. Look forward to coming back in a few weeks to show him off after we've washed him in his new shampoo and conditioner and we've figured out what he really does like to eat.

Not a great experiance, on return to pick up our 2 dogs we were told to wait outside, after 15 mins…read morethey brought out our dogs which were very excited, after getting them into the car we realised the dogs were filthy dirty and they stank of shit basically, we had to travel 7 hours with them like this, we also noticed both dogs have bloodshot eyes not sure what from, ears were also thick with dirt, we stopped in our trip to walk the dogs and give them a toilet break both dogs had runny stool, which they have never had before both had ill stomachs and farting for the full trip, also the dogs were very hard to control as they are only 8 months only they must have been left to run a muck in that place for the full 10 days, majority of discipline gone, only good thing to say is the staff were nice and the dogs were happy ,
