Five-Star Review My children have attended this school since kindergarten, and after so many years, I wanted to take the time to recognize some of the wonderful people who have made a difference in our experience. First, the ladies in the front office are amazing. Throughout the years, whenever my children or I have gone through a difficult situation or needed help, they have always been understanding, caring, patient, and willing to help. I truly appreciate everything they do for the students and families. I especially want to recognize Mr. Bugg the 8th-grade Math and Science teacher. He is an incredible teacher and made a huge impact on my daughter. The knowledge and strong foundation in math that she received from him prepared her tremendously for high school. She is doing well today because of what she learned in his classroom. As a mother, I appreciate a teacher who expects students to work hard. I believe that discipline, respect, responsibility, and knowledge are important, even when it may feel challenging for the kids at the time. Mr. Bugg teaches all of these things while making sure his students truly learn and are prepared for what comes next. Not every teacher has that level of dedication and commitment. Teachers like Mr. Bugg should be recognized because they are helping shape our children's futures. Our children may not always realize it today, but one day they will understand how much a great teacher contributed to their success. I am extremely grateful that my daughter had the opportunity to be one of Mr. Bugg students. Thank you, Mr. Bugg, for challenging your students, believing in them, and giving them the knowledge and discipline they need for their future. Your work truly makes a difference. Pretty ridiculous experience this morning. I dropped kids off at Academy of Math and Science and there were already around 20 students standing outside, so naturally they wanted to get out and join the other kids. Apparently, because it was a few minutes before 7:15, the school called their mom and warned her that next time she could be charged a fee for an early drop-off. I completely understand having rules and designated supervision times, but threatening parents with a charge when there's already a crowd of students outside over a matter of a few minutes feels unnecessarily petty. A simple reminder of the policy would have been more than enough. There's a difference between enforcing a safety policy and making families feel like they're being nickel-and-dimed. My daughters first year here (3rd grade) and she has been very vocal about how much she loves all of her teachers. If I need to communicate with them, they are very quick and professional! The admin in the front office are very sweet every time I go pick up my daughter for her after school program. If you need an amazing teacher for 3rd grade, Ms Landis, Ms Noriega, and Ms Bonillas are amazing. Great experience so far!! read more

Can you select no stars? Both the Prince and Lerdo Rd. Locations are abysmal environments for both students and teachers. As a substitute teacher, I was continually ill, sickened by a variety of viruses the students (most of them likely unvaccinated in this title 1 district) spread. No nurse on the Prince campus, and the Lerdo Rd. location actually prohibits kids from being sent home unless they have a fever. Too bad if you have pink eye, just pass it around. Admin at both schools is haughty and aloof. No support for teachers dealing with kids' bad behavior. Blame the teacher for "poor classroom management," admin's favorite go-to phrase whenever there's an issue. Many kids have serious social and mental dysfunction, yet incidents of self- or peer-to-peer harm are swept under the rug. These schools are scammers, collecting federal grant monies to stuff classrooms with low-income students whose parents are too busy putting food on the table (or whacked out on crack) to pay attention to the fact that their kids aren't learning anything and have to endure a regimented 7:30-4 (sometimes longer) rotation of classrooms in which pandemonium reigns and learning falls through the cracks. read more

this is coming from a student, they are terrible, please don't enroll your kids. first of all, they told us once "if you aren't quiet, you won't get lunch" and the teachers..aren't really good at their job, they don't communicate with my parents very well, they're rude and unfair to the students, etc. I feel like it was a decent school ever since they got new staff, the new staff just ruined this school ENTIRELY. I don't recommend taking your kids to this school, because another thing that happened was I got called to go home, but I needed my backpack, my backpack was stuck in a classroom and it was locked so I went to the front office and I told them everything, they had the nerve to say "if you can't find the keys, that's too bad" like excuse me? So I told another staff member and I finally got to go, but please, DONT enroll your kids into this. read more

This school used to be better but now it's just a wreck like seriously they hired a pedo as a teacher like seriously then like they banned soccer at recess cause "it gets us riled up" but they allowed basketball and kids still got hurt cause they played on concrete but we have grass on both playgrounds like it hurt less to fall on that grass while running rather than falling on that concrete then on Wednesdays if we weren't in a straight line and quite then no food like seriously that's was just so annoying just don't enroll your kids here it used to be good but now it's terrible and I've been there for 8 years and that bully free zone stuff they tell you that's a lie I've seen so many kids get bullied here and now there's a new policy to where if you get hit and hit them back in self defense you will get suspended so just don't enroll your children here read more

this school is the reason i graduated still being deathly afraid to ask for a pencil. i attended school here from 2015-2019 and aside from most of the students being pleasant, i had a teacher that would give you lunch detention if someone sneezed and you said 'bless you'. the management at this school had scarred me and many, many others. i doubt it's still the same people now, but its still the same school. i don't trust anyone who works for this school anymore, except maybe 2 teachers TOTAL. they were not role models for the young children they had been given the authority to educate. my little sister was bullied here, i was hazed for 2 years, and the teachers did not care. if you love your kid, for christ's sake, PICK ANOTHER SCHOOL. read more

Today I made the decision to unenroll my children from this school. While today was spontaneously chosen, this is a decision that was long overdue. Ms. Anna, you are AMAZING! This post is definitely not about you or towards you in any way. You deserve so much more than what this school can offer you. The front staff at this school needs to be reevaluated. They have poor, people skills and continuously show their unprofessionalism. Today I walked in at 1:03pm to pick my children up from school. They had early dismissal which on the website shows was at 1:00pm. As I was leaving, Jean from the front staff yells out, you're going to be billed a $30 fee each for being late, dismissal was at 12:30pm. I tried explaining the reason for the mixup, to which she rudely interrupted me and replied that she did not care what the website showed , dismissal was at 12:30pm and that she would just add the fee to "my account". After this "confrontation" I made the decision to unenroll them. If this is how she speaks to me, I can't imagine how she treats my kids. Ms. Lomeland stepped in to find out what was going on, I tried explaining. With her position and authority at the school you'd expect her to be more professional, but she is just as rude and unprofessional. While I was signing the form to withdraw my children, she turned over to Jean and advised "go ahead and just add it to her account" and said that she would need my request in writing. Multiple parents walked in while I was in the office, and they also were under the impression dismissal was at 1pm. I do not recommend this school to anyone. It is nothing but a fancy name, this is not the environment you want for your children. In order to provide a child a well rounded education and motivate them to learn, you have to make sure that you are able to provide them with a good environment. I have been in education for years and am so excited to join this amazing staff. The expectations are high and the students react well.

My grandson is starting his second year at AMS. He was in kindergarten last year (although he did a lot of first-grade work in reading and math), and again I expect that he will work above grade level. I was extremely pleased with the progress he made during this year. He was not reading at all when he entered AMS, but after a year, he is now reading books such as "Treasure Island" that are well above the first-grade level. He is also doing very well in math, and is making great progress in understanding concepts as well as doing the necessary drill work in the basics. As a scientist/educator myself (I am Prof. Emeritus at the Univ. of Arizona), I am convinced that my grandson's progress is due to the excellence of the curriculum and the quality of the teachers at AMS. The teachers are quite flexible and allow each student to progress as rapidly as their abilities will permit. AMS has music and art classes and multiple after school learning activities for students. The students are ethnically diverse, and the parents are supportive of school activities. I look forward to my grandson having another year of exciting growth in his learning and development at this excellent school. read more
