Jeff was cool to work with, as he answered a lot of my (question-filled) emails regarding pole heights, tent leg counts, etc. He also put effort and patience into the emails and invoices, which I appreciated since a few other rental companies took Hawaiian time to get back to me, or lacked reading comprehension skills ("my wedding is in November, do you have a 40x60 tent?" "We have that tent; when is your wedding?" Like really!?) One star knocked off because his team forgot (an item for) our arch and had to drive all the way back into town from Makawao to get it which resulted in having to wait an extra hour or so (time is money!) Island Rents Rocks! My wife and I wanted to have a "Mahalo" (Thank you) party for the teams who helped build our lava rock wall (Pohaku Masonry) and our entrance gate (Padilla Designs) as well as our neighbors who endured the project. After reaching out to many rental companies around Maui, I chose Island Rents for multiple reasons. From the very first interaction I had with Jeff, I knew he would be a pleasure to work with. Jeff is easy going, incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and understanding. As I was coordinating everything from the mainland, I needed someone who was easy to work with by email and Island Rents provided this. Do not use Island Rents!!!! Rachael the owner, is a basket case. Where do I even begin. I went to Maui to meet with vendors. I had already signed a credit card authorization form/agreement with Island Rents as this what they required in order for them to do a walk through of my wedding venue. Not a problem at all, I signed up and had been working with them for months on the rental details. I had an appointment for Island Rents to do a walk through on September 29th. Come September 29th, Rachael no shows to the walk through. I call her after to see what happened and she totally throws her assistant Darci under the bus and says Darci never told her about the appointment. I ask if I could come in right now as my time was limited on the island and I needed to meet with her before I left. I went to her warehouse and spent almost 2 hours going through the rentals, picking out colors etc. She seemed scattered the entire time as she lost my order form while I was there and had to rewrite my entire order from scratch. I was told I would receive a revised quote in a couple of days, no word. I email to check in, I am told she will get back to me soon. No response, I email again. Finally, I receive an email stating Island Rents won't be able to do the job for me. I guess my 2 strings of bistro lighting needs were too much for them. Long story short, not only did Rachael waste my time, flake on an appointment, hardly responded, made me sign an agreement and flaked out, bailed on me when she knew I didn't live on the island and that I couldn't meet with another rental place but she was a total spaz. I would not recommend Island Rents as they are undependable and flaky. Thank god I found all this out now instead of on my wedding day. read more

Island Rents provided all our wedding rentals. We worked with them through our coordinator so we never actually interfaced with them directly, but they were great. Their rentals are all excellent quality and they set things up perfectly and on time. We ran into a logistical hiccup as we tried to figure out how to fit the number of tables under our reception tent, but they worked with our coordinator to advise on different sized tables to make it work. Although we ended up with all of the tables, chairs, and decor we needed, I was not impressed with this rental company and they caused me quite a bit of stress leading up to the wedding. I guess they bought another company called Paradise Rentals whom I was working with at first. Anyways, their invoices and communication were unclear. Every time I contacted them it was frustrating and a tad unprofessional. Make sure you get everything in writing and take down the names of each person you speak with. We rented tables, chairs, a Chuppah, a light string, cutlery and glasses for our wedding in Haiku. Rachel was wonderful to work with; very communicative, easy to get a hold of and punctual. Everything they supplied us with was very high-quality and looked great. It was a really nice surprise to see all the decorations and dinner tables looking way better than we could imagine. To sum up, Island rents did a great job of following-up and following-through to provide us with excellent service. I rented white chairs and linen for my daughters wedding. The linens were great and the chairs were ok. When they came to pick them up they took a warmer that belonged to the caterer. Several phone calls and messages later Jeff called to let me know it would be the next day before he could find out who picked it up and when it would get returned. In the meantime I missed my return to the caterer!!! Thank you Island Rents. The warmer was returned as promised the next day, and our destination wedding events were rearranged and I missed a few of them because of rescheduling but hey, Island Rents got their stuff!!!! I rented equipments for my daughter's first birthday party and the equipments are in excellent condition, Vanessa one of their staff did an amazing job helping me over the phone & communicating with her via email, she's very helpful. I got exactly what i needed & i expected. They are very accommodating considering its a small party, i have inquired at other company as well & this actually have one of the best prices in equipment rental that's out there.the only reason why I'm giving them 3stars is because on the day of the party the people that scheduled to set up the the equipments cam a little late than what i expect & informed on. A little late like 30-45min late comes a long wait when your throwing a party. The guys don't even know the location. That probably the only thing hat needs improvement. All in all I'm pretty satisfied & the guys that set the equipments are very friendly & accommodating as far as where i want to set my tents, tables & chairs. read more

Island rents did a super-great job for our wedding this September at our friend's house. The tables, chairs, glassware, flatware, chuppah and lights looked beautiful and really made the wedding look like a high-class affair, even though we didn't have an event planner. Even last minute additions like walls to the tent was not a problem. She even credited back one side cause we didn't use it. That's costumer service! I will definitely recommend them to anyone!!!!! Jeff and his team provided the rentals (farm tables, chiavari chairs, cocktail tables, bar, lighting, dance floor, plates, chargers, linen napkins, etc.) for our April 28 wedding in Maui, and made everything about the process easy! Jeff is so easy to work with, understood our vision quickly, and made very good recommendations based on a solid understanding of his inventory. He even emailed me pictures of the table settings with different sized plates along with the chargers we chose so that we could easily select the best size/look. He never tried to "upsell" us on anything, and was flexible with our changes in guest number during the planning process. His team arrived for set up and break down at the time they said they'd be there, and handled everything carefully. We had no problems with any phase of the process! Lastly, compared with other similar companies on island, Island Rents edges out the competition in terms of affordability. These people are rather rude and difficult to work with. I was planning a destination wedding and my first encounter with Rachel was call me back when you know what you want. At the time I was questioning if I would need heaters for my guests in Feb for an evening event. The next encounter with Kara she insisted that rental items be delivered at 8:30am the date of the event. We had permission to be on the property after 3:00pm. My planner and photographer ended up calling them because I was so frustrated. Then I received a call from the delivery crew who asked where they should set up the tables. Well I rented lighting for a portion of the property. There is a large tree that the lights are hung from. I suggested that the tables be set up under the lighting. The man was very nice when he called perhaps he was new but why wouldn't you set up tables under lights. Especially when the rest of the property was dark. I think the rudeness was unnecessary and both Kara and Rachel could be a lot more helpful since they live on the island and have used this location many many times. read more
