Our friends spoke very highly of accelerations learning center. I was hesitant at first having just spent a ton of money and time at another tutoring center in Kaimuki, that just didn't work out. Mr. B was exactly the type of teaching that my daughter needed. She participated in the group SSAT sessions in town. She stayed engaged and focused and ended up doing great on her SSAT. She got accepted to all of the high schools she applied to! Location is perfect! We live in town and it is only 10 minutes away from us. I usually would drop her off either at the front (on King street) or drive into the back parking entrance and drop her off as close to lobby so I wouldn't have to pay for parking. Then I'd just park at the lot near by and wait till it was time to pick her up. I'd then head back to the parking entrance off of young street and go park and meet her inside. You have a 10 or 15 min grace period before you get charged. I highly recommend Accelerations Learning Center if you are looking to get some solid SSAT prep for your child. We haven't tried tutoring for other school subjects, but we already plan to come here if she needs to strengthen her writing or math foundations before starting the new school year! I am beyond thrilled with accelerations learning center! I wish I could afford to send my son here year round but alas I just sent him for a few month to prepare for 7th grade testing. I have no idea whether he got in or not ( it's a long process) however I've already seen the benefit in his regular math school work. I sent my son here for SSAT prep with Mr. B to get him ready for the 4th grade SSAT. We were only applying to Punahou since that is one of their entry grades and we were so impressed with Mr. B and the staff at Accelerations. They were so well-versed and knowledgeable on all the subjects and test taking strategies and did it in an engaging and fun way. My son looked forward to his tutoring sessions with Mr.B because he was always so positive and uplifting towards the kids. In addition, any questions I had regarding the admissions process or test scores were answered promptly with so much feedback and information. You can tell MR. I hesitate to post a review for Accelerations Learning Center because most of their business comes from word-of-mouth referrals by happy clients. I don't want the word to get out to the general public because they are already pretty busy! However, Mr. B is the very best teacher that my daughter has ever seen. My daughter signed up for their SSAT prep class, and we just found out that she was accepted to the school of her choice! She personally decided to write Mr. B an email to thank him, which says a lot about how much all of the kids respect his teaching methods. My daughter was always a bright student, but I noticed her struggling a little. She seemed to lose her passion for learning. At first, I chalked it up to some covid-related delays, but we eventually signed her up at another tutoring center, which was very expensive. My daughter still seemed to cruise along without any noticeable changes. Finally, we were referred to Accelerations, which was a game changer! Within 3 weeks of classes with Mr. B, her school teacher noticed her confidence grow. My daughter started raising her hand in class, actively participating, and was curious again about the world around her. She now enjoys math, reading and her vocabulary is extensive. She went from being a little below the curve to one of the top students in her class. Needless to say, the results speak for themselves. She will be attending arguably the best school on the island, and I credit the SSAT prep class she took at Accelerations. Please warn your kids, it is a lot of work! The packets that Mr. B sends home are thick, but each section is on point for the real test. Mr. B is one of those cool young teachers who can relate to all ages, and his passion for teaching is evident in minutes. The rest of the tutors are amazing too! We had our 10 year old son take the SSAT prep class and writing course last Summer and into the fall. We initially signed up for the courses because we wanted our son to feel confident taking the test. My son really enjoyed Mr. B and Mrs. T. My son felt the teachers made learning fun and happily did the homework when assigned. On top of all of that, my son loves math and was able to learn some more advanced math skills that he wouldn't normally have learned in school. In the end, my son received high scores on the test and was accepted to the top three schools on the island! I cannot say enough about this wonderful organization! My son was tutored primarily by Mr. B - who helped my son discover a love for math. His instruction approach was hands on and ideal for my son who does not learn in the traditional, lecture style method. My son needed some extra help with his science and math courses but was reluctant to ask his peers or teachers for assistance. "Find a place that you want to learn at then. And I'll get you set up there." He went online, researching a half dozen places, before deciding that he wanted to give Acclerations a try. I was secretly happy with this the Center was recommended to me by a colleague. Communications with the Center via email were very easy and I was able to set up an appointment for him the following weekend. He arrived and joined a small group (3 including my son) working on science. My son said that the set up was perfect. The tutor would work with him a bit and then let him work independently while he assisted the other students. Just around the time that my son had another question, the tutor was returning to him. There was no pressure to sign up for a long series of sessions. After that first meeting, we were told "Go home, talk with your son in private, make sure it's a good fit for him." Thankfully, it was and he has been agreeable about giving up an hour in the middle of his Saturday to get this assistance with his courses. Obviously to soon to tell what the impact to his grades will be, but the mere fact that he is going - without argument - and even asking if I can schedule extra sessions prior to tests is priceless! read more

We have two kids - boy and girl - they BOTH made it to Iolani AND Punahou and we attribute their acceptance to Mr. B and his incredible SSAT prep classes. We figured out quickly after discussing with various parents that this test was not just about knowledge, but about techniques on "how" to take the test - know when to guess, when to answer, when to "walk away" from questions. Our kids have high energy and quickly get bored if not intellectually challenged. Mr. B kept them intrigued with so many creative ways to make the test taking serious yet fun. We looked at several programs - none were as complete as this one at Accelerations with Mr. B. Let's put it this way.... no other program covered soup-to-nuts: the interview, recommendation letters, character test, SSAT format and timing, test day pros/cons on locations, seating, timing of when to take the tests in the year, temperature of the test rooms, even what to eat the night before and morning of the test - the level of detail gave us the confidence to go into the SSAT with no doubt that no matter what, we gave it our best shot. Words cannot describe how helpful Accelerations was to both of my kids. My oldest took the ACT without any help and scored a 27 the first try. After working with Cassandra the score rose to a 30 the 2nd time and then a 31 on the 3rd (and final) try. When it was time for my youngest, we enlisted Cassandra's help before the first test and scored a 1430 on the SAT the first try. The 2nd try scored a 1510. My daughter has been ACCELERATING since she was about 2 1/2 years old and in only 4-5 short months we have already noticed leaps and bounds for her. My son took the SSAT in 2019 and had an average score. He was applying to several schools for the upcoming 6th school year. He was waitlisted at a couple of schools and accepted at others, so we stayed put for his 6th-grade year at a smaller Christian private school. We heard about Accelerations Learning Center through a fellow nurse, who had put her son through it for his SSAT prep. My son had Mr. B and immediately became engaged in learning the SSAT strategies, he was tutored for almost 4 months. I'll admit I had my doubts on the 1st day of class when he was placed in a small group of 3-4 kids. He retook the SSAT during his 6th-grade year and almost doubled his score in the quantitative and verbal section, and significantly improved on his reading section. We went in expecting a slight improvement but came out with incredible results. He'll be attending I'olani in the fall for 7th grade. My 13-year old daughter took the SSAT in December, but I knew she could do better, so I decided to have her take another SSAT test within two weeks and needed a tutor to help her to study for the test. Mr. B returned my desperate email very quickly and worked with my daughter during the Christmas break, giving her great tips on how to approach specific questions, how to remember what she had learned and even gave pointers for the interview. When searching for a learning center for your child it's kinda hard because sometimes you just dont know if your child will enjoy it and get along with the tutors, especially knowing they have to go school all day and then tutoring right after their brain is fried for the day. My son, who is 14 years old loves learning but, he is a kinestic learner so the hawaiian charter school that he currently attends is perfect for him but, he still struggles with his academics not as bad as before. He also does not trust Adult teachers because of his bad experience he had going to Kaimuki Middle School and being bullied by one of his teacher telling him "He will never make it in life and he doesn't belong in school mom should homeschool you" and all sorts of negative words from her. It was probably the worse time of his years being there. So with that said it scarred him for trusting adults and teachers in specific. But, things are changing slowly. He actually loves coming to Accelerations Learning Center, we started off with twice a week and it was a struggle in the beginning to get him acquainted to the tutors/center. He kept telling me he didn't want to go, he didn't need it, he doesn't see the point but, I just told him try it out for 2 months straight, if you don't like we'll stop but, he has to give it his all and not half ass! So he did, two months came he started getting comfortable, then 3 months he created a trusted relationship with some of the tutors (Ms. Michelle & Mr. Steve), 4 months Acceleration Learning Center became his safe haven where he feels comfortable to learn , he loves his tutoring that I was able to place him back in sports and downsize his tutoring once a week. His grades are okay but, better than before! He has come along way in regards to learning and he enjoys going, he doesn't mind doing extra curricular workshop such as essay writing skills over Christmas break and he says "School is school but, when I step into the learning center there is something about it that gives me a second wind and I'm more focus to want to learn" to me, that's priceless and teary eyed because although he had some negative experience he is overcoming it and he his moving forward!"
