I was just introduced to my first ever experience with H&R Block. I made an in-office appointment…read morewith one of their tax professionals and collected some of the paperwork I might need. I haven't filed in recent years and need a considerable amount of advice and guidance. I drove to the office for the appointment at the proper time and sat in the waiting area for the person at the desk who was on the phone. The receptionist, who was still on the phone, asked if I was here to drop off documents, I said no - I had an appointment. She disappeared off down the hall to announce my arrival and came back to tell me that Pamela was busy and that I could drop off documents with someone else. I explained that I was not interested in dropping off documents without talking with someone. The receptionist took another phone call before responding to me. I was honestly entirely confused at this point and was waiting half expecting the receptionist to attempt to reschedule or at least give more of an explanation. It was 15 minutes after the appointment time before the receptionist disappeared back down the hallway to talk with Pamela again who finally came to the front with a built-in attitude that made it clear she considered this my problem, not hers. After she heard that she had never worked with me before, she seemed even less interested in even talking to me. Supposedly my appointment had been double-booked, but I'm pretty sure I was asked if I wanted to drop off documents at least five times...I was never asked if I wanted to reschedule. I'm not sure what I expected, but it surely wasn't that.

I had the worst experience ever at this location. My husband dropped my taxes off to be completed…read moreback on March 2nd. He has gone there before and worked with a tax advisor named Pamela and had no issues. We just got married, so we filed separately this year and I said to just take mine to the same lady. A few days later my husband got an email that Pamela needed to see my tax returns from the prior year, so we drove back to Block Advisors and dropped that stuff off. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I thought that it should only be another day or two and I would hear something back. I didn't. I sent Pamela an email on 3/11 asking her if she needed anything else. She replied back within a couple of hours telling me she had everything she needed and I would hear back from her "soon." I didn't. I sent another email on 3/16 asking for an update. I was getting kinda frustrated at this point (I mean she had my stuff my for over 2 weeks with no indication as to when it would be completed). Pamela did not reply to my email. My husband called Block Advisors and spoke to the receptionist on 3/17 asking for an update. He was told that Pamela would get the message and either call or email me back with an update. She didn't. I called Block Advisors on 3/18 and spoke to the receptionist and told her that I basically wanted an update or I would like to come pick up my tax documents so I could take them someplace else. The receptionist took my message and called and left me a voice message a few minutes later stating that she talked to Pamela and that I would hear back from her "soon." At this point I was over it. I called the receptionist back and said that I would like to pick up my documents the next day. The next morning (3/19) I checked my email and there was an email response from Pamela finally, although not quite what I had expected. She obviously didn't get the memo that I did not want her to complete my taxes anymore, it was instead a price estimate that it would cost me $450ish dollars to complete my taxes because they were "complicated." What?? Any why was I hearing this just now? I emailed her straight back and said there was no way I would pay that and that I would pick up my stuff that day. FYI...my taxes were completed for $110 the prior year and they had the same amount of complexity. I finally got my tax documents back yesterday (3/19). I wasted practically 3 weeks time for nothing. To sum it up, don't go there. At least not to Pamela if you do.

MH complained about my review and got it taken down. If they complain again, I'll expand it more... Here is my revised review: I became a client of this firm in 2000 or 2001. Things went reasonably well for more than 20 years, when the firm was run by its founders, Martin and Hood. But they retired without notifying clients and some local newschick took over. She doesn't seem like a meticulous accountant, but rather more of a promoter or entertainer. I feel like she's probably fairly effective at scamming people. After the takeover, I received no notification. I found out when I tried to track down the CPA I'd been interacting with for more than 20 years. After reestablishing contact, I wound up with a new CPA. But then he quit and I received no notification. WTF? The next guy I had contact with was their comptroller. He was a major pointy object (trying to keep it clean for Yelp censors) and quite a cocky, overconfident guy. So based on what I know about this firm, I say: No, no, a thousand times no, you should not use this firm. There are hardworking accountants out there who want your business. Martin and Hood founded this business in 1982. But they retired and sold it. Now some female former news anchor is running the show. Many of their seasoned employees have departed, and they seem to have a turnover problem since the news gal took over. As a bonus, they've got at least one very petulant jerk in their organization - the comptroller. There are some pretty decent people doing accounting. This firm does not employ them.

I took my taxes and my sons in 3 weeks ago. Tuesday, April 9th I called to enquire about our taxes…read morebecause of the late date. They had not notified me. I was told by the secretary that our taxes would be done before April 15th and that they would call me. The next day at 5pm I got a call from Wyatt, who prepared our taxes, that my taxes were ready. However he declined to do my son's taxes saying their minimum fee is $750 (which is an outrageous minimum) and that it would be too much for the small work to be done. While I appreciate the heads up, letting us know 3 weeks later at 5pm with 4 days till the deadline is terrible. I realized no one even looked over what I gave them till they got to my account. I do not recommend M|H to anyone. Especially taxpayers who have even more complex taxes then we did. They will get to you late and always use (like they've done with me in the past) doing extensions just because they don't get to you till a few days before the deadline. If you have not supplied them with enough info or something is amiss, it will be too lat I used to work with Mr. Martin and he was very good to talk to but he's retired.

We owe late fees, interest , and the original amount that was missed. Instead of owning up and fixing the problem , he avoided our phone calls. After my husband finally went in there, Now he wants to "credit our account" . How does that help us now? After this mistake I don't want to "credit our account" because we won't be going back. When someone is messing with our money, it is extremely important to me that we have trust in our accountant. I can't trust you any more!!!! We don't like having Uncle Sam on our backs!!
