This place saved me thousands of dollars literally. I had inherited my grandmothers 100+ year old large diamond ring and wasn't sure what it was worth. I had the ring appraised by two other appraisers but after the appraisals and their offers to purchase the diamond ring I felt the values and gradings attached to the appraisal were to low. After doing some research online I found AGL listed as an accredited appraiser on the Canadian Jewellers Association website (1 of only 4 in Toronto). As well they do no buying and selling which insures they have an unbiased opinion on the diamond ring when doing my jewellery appraisal (shouldn't they all?). I met with the gemologist (Ben) and he couldn't be nicer. Recently I purchased a beautiful piece of jewellery from Finch Center Jewellers (see previous review). I needed to have the jewellery appraised and they suggested I go to AGL, an independent jewellery appraiser and gemologist. I called my insurance company and they suggested the same place. All in all a very pleasant experience. I sat down with the appraiser while he appraised my piece of jewellery. He explained in detail the specifications of the center diamond as well as the side diamonds and gold in the ring. Upon reading all the 5 * reviews people gave to Ben Bernstein, We decided that he must be the person we were looking for whom we can trust to appraise my 88 facet diamond. We find him very cordial, friendly, honest and above all very knowledgeable. He confirmed that it is an 88 facet diamond and has an identifying registration number which was laser engraved that I was not aware of, This alone gave me assurance that my diamond has a unique identifying marks. To address some other comments. Yes, the location was nothing to write home about. Coming from London UK it felt to me like I was in the 1970s going to see a private eye..... however I don't need a fancy location to get my jewellery appraised. What I do need is a professional who knows what they are doing and delivers excellent customer service. Ben was unbelievably kind and helpful. He was very professional and he turned my appraisals around in a few hours, meaning I wasn't without my jewellery for very long. He was also reasonably priced. I went here to have some pearl earrings looked at --- I'd bought them online and wanted to make sure I hadn't been ripped off. Ben was really nice. He offered to give them a quick check for free (!) since I hadn't paid a huge amount for them, and didn't need more than some reassurance from an expert (I wasn't looking for an appraisal for insurance purposes, for instance).
