My fiancée and I came here for the wedding band workshop. My craftsmanship is not that great, and I am not patient, the last time I did anything handy was back at international school in HK at design tech class. Our trainer and owner Sara were absolutely amazing. They are patient and helpful to guide you each step to make the ring. I thought I will never finish, but with their guidance. My fiancée's ring came to a reality and he liked it! It was a very enjoyable workshop. I love taking classes at Devil's Workshop. Sarah and her team are great! I've taken several courses there, including Silversmith 1 and 2, as well as lost wax casting. I learned so many skills, and i hope to take lost wax casting 2 next year. Meanwhile, I've been attending some open studio workshops, because I do not have a soldering station at home. Their prices for bench time are reasonable, and in open studio there is always a staff to guide you if you have forgotten how to do something that you had previously learned. They have a beautiful, airy space and are friendly and welcoming. The studio is cleanly set up, and not cluttery or crowded at all. This is a wonderful studio, and I recommend the Wedding Band workshop for everyone who is looking for that sort of thing. read more

Not even deviled eggs but my yelp search for Toronto showed up The Devil's Workshop in the search and ... IT'S A JEWELRY STORE!! I love how this turned out. So out on Queen St West and just beyond Trinity Bellwoods Park is area where you can find really neat fashion boutiques and Devil's Workshop sits among them. With many gleaming metal jewelry pieces in the storefront window, it really beckons you to see all that shines and glitters inside. Inside is a clean white canvas that has a rustic luxe vibe. Once you step inside, you quickly realize that isn't a normal jewelry store. It also is a place for couples to do workshops to build your own rings, for anyone to rent a spot to practice metalworking, or learn from scratch how to make your own jewelry Christmas presents! It is a really interesting mixture of arts and wares in one spot. I understand they also do repair work. There are many different artisans in the jewelry cases. You can clearly see the styles vary shelf by shelf and the imprint of the artist is clear. Some are all about smooth surfaces while others are all about angles and geometrics shapes that can dangle from a whisper thin chain. Prices do vary from a very affordable and beautiful open octagon ring made in jeweler's bronze to a pricier rose cut diamond in a bezel setting. It does have many styles so there is something for everyone. So if you're looking to support the local Toronto artist scene or find an unique piece, I would recommend to stop here. I went to the Devil's Workshop in October of last year to participate in two of their jewelry making workshops. The workshops were held on a Sunday, and I arrived slightly before noon and met Andrea, the teacher who would leave both workshops. I had never been to the shop (having discovered the workshops online and signing up for them on the phone), so I was glad I got there early because it gave me time to look around. I was also able to go through their bead selection and pick mine out before anyone else arrived. Each of my workshops cost $45+HST, and signing up to do both of them at the same time entitled me to a $12 bead credit while I was there. Each workshop was slated to last for two hours. The store is tiny, but it is well-laid out. The front half contains the retail portion of the shop. The room is painted a crisp white, and glass cupboards and shelves hold a number of beautiful, hand-made jewelry items. The entire space is open-concept, so as various Sunday shoppers walked in to check out the goods, we were on display learning to make jewelry. This was, thankfully, not too distracting to take away from the workshop itself. The workshop space is equipped with six stations designed to do some pretty hard-core jewelry making. I was just taking wire-working and bead-working classes, so we didn't use a lot of what I saw there. However, it was obvious that you can do so much more than string beads onto wire at their various workshops (wedding band and silversmith workshops, just to name a few). In the wire-working workshop, we learned to create floating necklaces and how to use crimp beads. After we finished our necklaces, we were able to create matching sets of earrings using similar techniques. In the bead-working workshop, we learned how to use head pins to attach beads to various length of chains (or other beads) to create necklaces and earrings of varying lengths and styles. Regrettably, we ran out of time to make rings (something I was really looking forward to), but I left feeling I was armed with enough basic technique and knowledge to create my own at a later date. After all was said and done, I paid an additional $3 for materials and left with a beautiful necklace and a few different styles of earrings. More importantly, I left with enough knowledge to purchase the materials I need and continue to create jewelry items on my own. read more

This place is a hit or a miss depending on what you're looking for and the service. They have a wide variety of pieces to pick and love. I came here to try and get a gold chain fixed. I called ahead and ask if they did repairs in house (assuming i can wait as they do it and leave the same day) and they said yes. WRONG. I dropped my chain on Friday and was told to expect and email that would tell me the cost before the repair could be done. Ahhh, but whatever. So I left my chain and got an email back on Sunday at 11:30 PM after being told 24 hours. But hey, it's the weekend so I can see why it took so long. Anyways the cost to fix my chain was 1/3 the cost of the total chain value. My other option as I was told was to get a different stronger chain. Hmm, no thank you. I got this chain as I gift and I wanted to keep it as I got it as much as possible. Anyways, the people at the store were nice and friendly. Just a wee bit misleading. I would go here to maybe look at pieces but probably not go to get anything fixed. That's just me though. I think I'll stick with my regular. read more

Despite it's evil sounding nice, this jewelry-making workshop is actually quite heavenly. I saw a sign in the door for fused glass pendant making classes around Mother's Day, so I went inside to inquire. The woman was very helpful and informed me that the class provides the materials and the tools and you get to choose the design and create the pieces yourself. I bought the class for my step mom and she absolutely loved it. The class was $80 for the two and half hour session and includes three glass blown pedants and three chains. My step mom actually made two additional pendants for $10 each. To create your own totally unique, good quality, handcrafted jewelry, this is really a great deal. I saw the beads when she brought them home and they were beautiful - like she purchased them from some trendy boutique. The workshop also sells some beautiful jewelry and if you're lucky (and a dog person) you might get to meet the beautiful German Sheppard that often wanders through the store. read more

This is the place you need to come to if you want your wedding bands to be extra special. My husband, at the time my fiance, and I were looking around for the perfect wedding bands. We wanted them to be very "us", but so far had found nothing that fit that category. We decided to check this place out on a recommendation from a couple we know, who got married a few years back. Walking into this shop you will see displays of beautiful handmade jewelry. Lots of unique things to buy as gifts (self-gifts included). We spoke to the owner, Sarah, who told us about their Wedding Band Class. What it entails is picking the metal you want your band to be made of (Silver, Gold, White Gold), in its raw state, and going, step by step, through the whole process until it becomes a beautiful perfect "you" band. The other cool part is that everyone makes their partner's band. A hand made gift for your partner on your wedding day. The experience was fun and we couldn't be happier with the results. I felt like a kid in a candy shop at this place. Every case had something I wanted to see up close and try on. Their jewelry is unique, original, and modern. I wish they sold online so I could check in often and buy more! I had the tour guide drop me off here after my Niagara Falls trip, and spent 45 minutes looking through everything. Their sales person, DM, was very patient, and answered my many questions. I ended up buying the hammered brass earrings that first caught my eye in the window the day before. Guys, this is where you need to go if you want to really be involved in your ring! Here's my story. I knew I wanted something very personal for my fiancé (now wife). After much research, I decided I should go the custom design route. I spent many days/weeks sussing out the best way to go about this and eventually narrowed it down to a few elite jewellery craftspeople, including The Devil's Workshop. Unfortunately when I went in, Sara wasn't there but her lovely coworker, Shawna. She asked me to come back when Sara was in and I am so glad I did. I brought my brother with me and after just a few minutes talking to her, we both knew this was the right person to make the ring. Sara just has a calm, confident demeanour with no BS. Her pricing is very fair - in fact, she's probably undercharging for her skill. She even worked with me so that I could repurpose my own gold - this was huge sticking point with other goldsmiths. Anyway I could go on and on, but suffice it to stay that my wife LOVES her ring. We have both gone back to make our wedding bands in her very fun wedding band workshop. My fiance and I had a custom engagement ring made by Sarah and the result was beyond my dreamiest of dreams! This was my first time designing a fine piece of jewelry so I was new to the process, and a bit overwhelmed. I was first inspired by a gorgeous ring I saw inside Devil's Workshop when we first went there for our initial consultation with Sarah. From there, I came up with some ideas of how I could make it uniquely my own. Sarah was a true consultant and very collaborative - letting me know if she thought something wouldn't look very nice, but also making some suggestions about things that would make the ring look beautiful. I truly appreciated how honest she was, especially given that she was the expert. She was extremely patient with me as I worked through envisioning the design and asked questions, and she even provided quite a few different renderings to help me decide which one to go with. Had them polish and remove some engraving from a very expensive Cartier ring. In addition to the engraving they removed the "Cartier" insignia as well as the all the original jewellers marks!!.....not impressed! read more

Sarah was amazing in helping my fiancé and I design our engagement ring. We had asked her to use the stone from my fiance's grandma's ring, as well as keep the style of the ring while creating something more modern. She listened to every bit of feedback we provided on her sketches and renderings and also gave us her opinion on what would work and look good. I honestly went into this with the thought I would have to buy a real ring soon anyway, I don't have an artistic bone in my body so was confident I would stuff it up somehow! How wrong was I! The coaching was excellent, but not in your face and you were expected to do it all yourself but if you were struggling then they were always there to help.
