Sure, I can add and subtract, maybe even whip out a fraction or two when I'm feeling dangerous but deciphering IRS laws? That's a level I'll never reach. So, since the dawn of my tax-paying days, I've always hired an accountant or CPA. My first one was so old, I'm pretty sure he and Moses shared tax tips on the ark. But let me tell you, that man could do taxes. I'd walk in with a shoebox full of random papers, and a few days later...violá...a perfectly filed return would appear, like magic. Years passed, and sadly, so did Ben, my beloved accountant. Then came Tom, young, sharp, and just as good. Life was good again... until I moved out of State. Turns out, the tax code changes faster than my Wi-Fi password, and I had to start my search all over. With no local connections and a deep distrust of doing my own taxes (a dark time full of tears, calculators, and caffeine), I finally found someone decent. But he was busier than the DMV on a Monday and occasionally "forgot" to file things...small details, like my entire tax return. Back to square one. Then, one fateful day, Yelp led me to Hooks & Books. From my first call with Chris to sitting down with Mr. Hooks himself, it was smoother than a sunny day on calm water. Mr. Hooks was patient, thorough, and explained things no one had ever bothered to before. And best of all? He finished my taxes that same day! I walked out smiling, yes, even though I owed the IRS (and that's saying something). Hooks & Books is a true family business, professional, knowledgeable, and refreshingly human. I went in to see if they would help me and guess what I asked for help and they helped me but only because I am Hispanic like them. Don't go to this business. They should help everyone.
