When you make an appointment with Dr. Neal, be prepared to get a thorough explanation! While it felt like I was having a short course on the anatomy of the human body, I felt relieved to know visiting him means getting a better understanding of my body. I always leave his office confident that if he said "everything is ok", truly all is OK and I can take that to the bank! Dr. Neal went above and beyond and taught me how to massage my neck because it was one of my major complaints. I've only been here for my PPD test. $20 bucks gets you in and out and done. There were three people in front of me and I was a walk-in so I expected to wait. A frail looking lady couldn't wait any longer and left, a guy got called in, and I was called next, all within 15 minutes of my arrival. The shot was quick, I bruised, but the bump disappeared within 30 minutes. I was given the okay to go to the gym and 3 miles running and 1 mile swim later the area was all but cleared. SIGH why can't anybody understand I don't have TB and will never ever have TB? The visit to get my TB test read was chill as well. The nurses/front desk are great and efficient! Not even 5 minutes and I was out. The back doors (facing the street) are super heavy and I don't know how frail people get into the building from that direction, but other than that I had a pleasant experience here. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Neal for at least 7 years now. The one thing that I appreciate most about Dr. Neal is the he never rushes you to get to the next patient. He takes his time and listens to all my concerns and talks with you on a level that is easy to understand. I feel that he truly cares about me and my health. I have never felt uncomfortable or ignored while under his care. You might have to wait a little longer to get to see him, but he makes up for it with his attention to detail and genuine concern for you. So if you expect to get in and out in a hurry, Dr. Neal is not the doctor for you. But if you're looking for a compassionate and caring family doctor you won't be disappointed. I have been a patient of both Dr. Neal and Dr. Oh for the past four years. Although Dr. Neal is my primary care, both of them have helped me through two major medical problems. I find them both caring, compassionate, and there for you whenever you need them. Dr. Neal takes his time, is thorough and I feel like I get far more from him than any other doctor I have known. I have many doctors inside the THIPA network and he is the only one I enjoy going to see! I love his two ladies in the back! Joanna is the best at blood drawing and Jocelyn is just all around awesome! If you find issue with this office I find it hard to believe. Yes, sometimes you have to wait, but remember, some patients need that few extra minutes because maybe they have something serious happening, maybe they are older and need that gentle care they provide. Maybe they have to take a call for an emergency, maybe it's just someone who needs a little more than you do. Maybe sometimes messages don't get answered or the phones are busy. Try again, don't blame them for the time it takes for you to get what you need, there are other people trying to do the same and we all have to be more aware of that! I absolutely had the worst service with Dr. Darren Neal office. My insurance switched my doctor to Neal because my old doctor retired. I call for my first appointment, and scheduled one it was over a month I had to wait to see Dr. Neal. By the time my appointment came around I missed it. I mean a months wait I didn't want to miss it on purpose I just really forgot I had a appointment because I had to wait so long. After that I would call and call and get no answer until one day... I ended up fainting while taking care of business, I went to the emergency room in the ambulance. The hospital releases me telling me to follow up with my doctor (which is Dr. Neal) I call my doctor approximately 2 days later from another number because everytime I called from my main phone I would get NO pick up AT ALL. I finally get a front desk MA on the phone to schedule a appointment because I just gotten out of the hospital. She was in full support she listened to everything I had to say ( I even apologized about my missed appointment) and told me she would call me back after she tried to find me a appointment. You guys it has been months I never gotten a call back an I just haven't bothered. This is the worst service and made me feel so horrible I'm just happy I'm still alive because I haven't seen a doctor. read more

If you need a compassionate primary MD who will listen to you, then Dr. Neal is the one for you. Parking- they have a shared parking lot and street parking. Facility - second floor of a medical building. I didn't see any security but building looks well kept and clean inside Staff - very helpful. Everybody introduced themselves and explained what they were going to do. I had just changed my PMD and I guess wellness exam includes not only blood tests but 12 lead EKG and lung function exam. The staff were so professional! Dr. Neal - I work in the healthcare field and oftentimes when I take care of my own patients, everything needs to be "fast". I always feel that i am being hurried. This is not the case with Dr. Neal. He was very thorough. He explained all the tests with me and asked if I had questions. I dont know the last time my PMd checked my reflexes, eyes and ears. but he DID! He really took the time and spent a good 30-40 mins + with me. It totally exceeded my expectations. Short response: Despite that wordy and boorish attempt to reshape what happened, here are the facts: 1) I came to see you for a cold - you prescribed Azithromycin 2) I asked who I should see about ADD problems. And said I had taken some in the past. 3) You, in the most disrespectful way possible, claimed I lied about my visit and asked me to leave. Finally when I pleaded with you to just help me with my cold did you write the prescription. (I have a copy) 4) I waited several months, to be sure I did not write this in haste and thinking she would apologize at some point and then I couldn't keep this from other people. That's it - I believe in a new era of consumer advocacy where we can work for the betterment of all by speaking out against injustice and disrespect. ===================================================== Detailed Response: And yes I am fortunate enough not to have to see doctors that often so when I do I will (like most people) ask them any outstanding questions. So again your biased characterization is demeaning and disrespectful. And the sole reason I am posting is because even after I cooled down about it, I just could not shake the fact that what you did was not right - not then and not now. And it is unfair for me to allow you to treat me or others this way - so have to share the story. Now answer this - If I didnt have a cold, then why did you prescribe (I have proof) Azithromycin? So either you have problems diagnosing or you admit I'm right about the complaint to begin with. Very happy with my 1st visit. I am very hesitant with doctors and hate to go. My experience here was great from the initial phone call to schedule the appointment all the way through walking out the door after the visit. Dr. Neal was late but explained right off the top that he is always late because he is going to give each patient the amount of time they need. And he did. He was not rushed with me at all. Explained any and everything that was a concern to me. The front staff was very polite and appropriate. Dr. Neal discusses options with you and makes you a part of your treatment. Nothing was imposed or pushed upon me. We discussed what we both felt was best and would work. He and his staff are a pleasure. I am looking forward to my return visit. I saw a doctor at achieve. in about 8 months I was only scheduled to see her 4 times at most. When she did see me it seemed like she wanted to get me in and out of the session as fast as humanly possible. My sessions averaged about 7-15 minutes, and I was told I was completely covered by insurance. Imagine my surprise when, after concluding services, I suddenly had a balance, that in the eight months of working with her had never been mentioned. Not even once. I called to get answers and they said I had to pay because she prescribed medication. When I told the receptionist that wasn't the case, she said oh actually it's because she refilled your medication. She didn't do that either. I asked her how much time per session I was entitled to per my insurance, and she let me know I was entitled to 60 minute sessions. I received seven to fifteen minute sessions. That does not seem fair to me. When it seems like your therapist is more concerned with getting you out of the office quickly and not with the problems she is being paid to listen to, that's when I have a problem. Also, before starting services, they let me know that in order for them to let my doctor know I was okay to start a certain medication, I would have to pay them $100. There are so many good therapists that are covered by insurance. Maybe skip these guys and go find one of them instead. read more

I used to think they cared.......but they don't. I am a Veteran and suffer from a Back Problem......degeneration of my L5 disc, Sciatic Pain, numbness, etc. They would not even treat me after my pain med issues were brought up.....without exposing my personal life too much here......they refused to help me when I needed it most. I wanted to get assistance with a dependency developed after years of Pain Med use....I was refused service because I had a previous incident (several years ago) of drinking alcohol while on the meds. That was then, this is now.......I am 100% sober and do not touch Alcohol, but was still treated rudely by the entire office. Funny how Doctors will load us up with Pain pills - see us twice a month to get your insurance money - herding us through like cattle, then they wonder why we are dependent on Pain meds, and worse, treat us like street addicts. Bottom line - this office only cares about MONEY - not you. read more

Dr. Darren Neil is hands down the best primary care physician I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I haven't seen any doc in this office yet. Nothing to do with any doc. I called the office 5 times and left numerous voicemails to request an appointment. Answering machine was the only one I talked to. Except one time someone picked up and said will call back. After a month has passed no one call me back. When I called back, it was an answering machine again. Until today I still have not seen any doc. If I hav any problem I should be so dead already. Lol. Don't know what's their problem. Searching for a doctor in the area I saw Dr Neal had great reviews and called immediately as I had extreme sharp pain in my abdomen/pelvic area (fearing appendicitis or worse). They saw me immediately. He truly does get to know his patients, his experience and knowledge of the body is extensive. He explains things thoroughly, he gives you options and suggests what the best care for you would be. He told me he gives his patients the same care and medical advice he would to his own family. And that's exactly how I felt. As though he genuinely was helping me find a medical solution and not just shuffling me along when it could be something serious. Dr Neal stayed his entire lunch break with me consulting my issue, sent me for some tests same day, and the following day saw me immediately without an appt. HE HIMSELF called my insurance to check on costs, he also referred me to a great testing center for a ct scan that didn't even charge me due to my financial situation and their care for patients as well. His staff was so helpful when I was there with my new baby crying and needed blood drawn. Jocelyn is amazing and is so gentle (I appreciated this since I have horribly tiny veins) I'm about in tears thinking I might move and the thought of needing to find a new doctor. I never want to go to another physician. Dr Neal also is humbled and continually staying abreast the latest information in his profession. He looks out for his patients and will refer you to other fantastic specialty doctors for added input! Go see him!!!!! Apparently, since I hadn't met my deductible they were charging me $80 for my co-pay which makes zero sense. I've been here twice and was always taken care of with the utomost of care, kindness and good will from the front office and the back office. Dr. Neal is very caring . Dr. Neal and Dr. Oh are both amazing people. I have been coming to them every month for my medication for over 2 years. They always take the time necessary to evaluate the patient and make you as comfortable as possible. I am very nervous about getting blood drawn. When I came here they let my boyfriend come, set up his computer with Conan videos, and then they brought Dr. Oh out especially to draw my blood since she is the best in the office. They are almost always available. Lately they have undergone a serious staff overhaul as some previous staff members where not properly caring for their clients, so lately there has been a bit of a wait since everything is getting reorganized. Dr. Neal is an amazing doctor. He deeply cares for his patients and spends time with them getting, to know who they are. He makes going to the doctor a fun experience on top of the excellent care I've received over the years. I'm always astonished at how much he remembers about me every time I visit. As soon as he comes in a genuine lengthy conversation ensues and it always comes with a few laughs and some new knowledge. Dr Neal is one of best doctors I have come across. We are seeing him for my wife and she likes him very much. He is very caring and shows lot of concern towards patients's overall well being. Full marks to him. But I am still giving this practice 3 stars because of the useless front office staff. Be prepared to call several times just to get one thing done. They will always tell that they will call back but then they never do. You have to keep calling them just get a simple prescription sent pharmacy or to get blood work results. Dr. Neal is to Doctors what LeBron is to Basketball. Maybe not in the grand scheme, but I've hated every doctor I've ever had besides Dr. Neal. This guy used to hunt Russian Subs in the Cold War and Save drowning fishermen. You'd think my insomnia would be laughable to him. I honestly don't know if I've ever trusted another human being as much as Dr Neal. I drive 2 hours each way in grueling Los Angeles grid-lock traffic just to see this guy, and my doctor appointments are some of my favorite daytime activities (priorities change in your late 30's to any kiddos reading this review). No issue has ever been trivial, no problem judged and no pain dismissed outright without at least some doctorly inquisitiveness. The guy actually cares what's going on in my life. He's not a doctor out here trying to make a buck. I paid his full price for over a year until my insurance included him in my network because he's the only doctor I've ever trusted, and probably ever will. The first time I saw him I had money for the visit and money for my much needed medication, but not both. I sheepishly told him that and he refunded his fee and told me to use that money to get the medication I needed rather than wait until I could afford it later. I of course paid that back later but without that generosity within the first hour of meeting I don't believe my life would be 1/10th what it is today. That honestly could be the nicest thing anyone anywhere has ever done for me in my life; straight up. The drive to Torrance from Hollywood in gridlock LA traffic is a pittance in comparison to who this guy has proven himself to be to me. I've never met his wife (they run Achieve Medical Group together I believe) but all you ever hear in their waiting room is people talking about how this drive and that drive is worth it because she is that good. On multiple occasions I've considered moving away from the gridlock nightmare that is Los Angeles and honestly the fear of giving this man up as my doctor has factored into me staying here more than once. As odd as it may sound, I've trusted very few people with my life growing up in poverty in a rough city in an even rougher neighborhood and of those handful of people only one I know of was a Doctor; that doctor being Doctor Darren Neal MD. Granted, I've waited a good little bit of time past my appointment time to be seen by him, but that's because he's not churning people in and out of the office to make a buck. When I have gotten to see him, he's been interested in what's going on with my life; how my job is going, how's my family life. I know pretty much nothing about what it takes to be a good doctor but I imagine what this guy is doing is the template for that. Ya, McDonalds has a pretty fast turn-around time but Dr Neal IS NOT providing McDonalds-like medical care. My man is giving FIBE STAR restaurant service and meals. And that sometimes necessitates a few extra minutes waiting in the lobby. Lobby is clean and seldom crowfed, his staff is professional and obviously loyal to him because it seems, at least from the outside, he's a great leader. I'm 38 years old and I've lived all across the country; from po-dunk towns like Pinehurst, North Carolina and Cincinnati, Ohio to Houston, Texas; San Francisco, California and now Los Angeles, California. This was the first time in my life I felt like an actual Human being treated as such and not just another name on a clip-board with some text-book answer to my symptoms ready to be chucked out for the next patient. This guy isn't my psychologist but he's gotten to know the ins and outs of who I am, what drives me, what my pit-falls are and he's used that knowledge with his obvious stellar medical expertise to resolve problems other doctors seemed to have no interest in even addressing, let alone having the knowledge to address competently. In closing, I'd recommend this guy as a Primary Care Physician to anyone willing to listen to me do so except I'm afraid too many people might seek this guy out and it could be harder for me to get in and see him. Doctors Offices are generally viewed as negatively as Dentist Offices; but I genuinely look forward to each and every visit with this guy because as someone who is 3,000 miles away from my nearest family member I can unequivocally say this guy is the closest person to me in as many miles who actually gives a shit about my well being and helping me to maintain my health. 10/10; would recommend. Thanks Dr Neal, you've changed my life for the better on too many accounts for me to list on a petty site like Reddit. But it's good to know that somewhere out there I can give you the layman's accolades that you're probably not receiving enough of if everyone else has had half the experience with you that I've gotten. I'm writing this review on behalf of my dad and he absolutely loves this place. My father, henry choi, has been a patient for 3 years after jumping back and forth between lots of doctors. Dr Neal is by far, the most caring and attentive doctor that he has gone to over his life and he would like to keep it that way. Dr.neal always takes his time to answer questions and is always so helpful with everything that he asks. He helps medically, but also inspires my father mentally to be a better person. I recently moved to the area and, after experiencing a loud music show which did some permanent damage to my ears, I realized I needed to a find an exceptionally good doctor. Intrigued by all of the positive reviews posted here, I gave Dr. Neal a try. It was one of the best decisions I have made! Not only is he extremely knowledgable but he also has a tremendous amount of field experience- the combination of which inspires great confidence in his recommendations. Furthermore, his compassion runs deep. He cares. He treats his patience from the heart, as if we were apart of his family. He takes the time to educate you, he offers you options and choices and he sits with you while you take all of his information in. I've never had such a great experience with a doctor. CORRECTION: Dr Oh did provide me with a document before I left my appointment stating that I can call in about a week later to get my pap and mammo results. But I failed to do so as I was freaking out about my first mammo and the lumps on my breast. It is a nerve wrecking feeling and I did the happy dance out of the radiology department after the tech told me I was fine. But nonetheless I didn't call back after a week and for that I add another star. NOTE: for those who never had a mammo, do know that there's a difference between a "routine" and "diagnostic" mammo. Quite possibly the best doctor expierence I've ever had. I needed to get my immigration forms filled out, which requires a medical exam. I'm VERY nervous around doctors and am extremely afraid of needles.. Unfortunatly for me, the immigration medical exam required me to get 3 shots, a TB test, AND have my blood drawn. They handled me VERY well. It was mostly the people at the front desk who took care of me. They were very patient, gentle, and made sure I was comfortable. They did their best to make my visit quick and painless, and even went so far as to comforting me when I started to freak out about the blood test, talking to me through the entire thing to distract me. I had my blood test results back within 2 days (When i returned to get my TB results checked) and after a short visit with the actual doctor, my forms were signed and sealed. I dont personally have a need for a family doctor, but after the awesome experience I had here, I know i'll be coming back if I ever need to. read more

Dr. Neal is seriously one of my favorite doctors of all time, and I've been to a LOT! I've figured out it's best to be the first appt. after lunch. Less waiting, and you get a non-hangry Doctor. He and Dr. Oh (the other dr in office) are married. She does well women exams and Dr Neal does physicals. It's a great "one stop shop". I believe they take walk-ins also. Dr. Neal and I laugh, have many inside jokes, he keeps wonderful notes and remembers all my ailments (I have a ton), medication doses, etc. The office staff could use some fine tuning, but overall, this is a great office! Very clean. Be prepared to spend some time here. If you get frustrated with the wait, just know dr Neal will give you the same long visit as well! Or take my advice and be the appt after lunch (on the days I don't have them, of course)! read more

After reading some positive Yelp reviews, I decided to go to Achieve Medical and I am extremely glad I did. I feel like I got The best possible treatment and care for a fraction of what it costs elsewhere. Dr. Neal was even nicer than I expected. In fact, everyone in the office was nice and friendly. Usually you get the feeling that doctors and assistants are trying to get you in and out as quickly as possible. I didn't have a chance to talk to Dr. Oh but she warmly greeted me on my way out. This is definitely the kind of care I would come back to. I am a new patient of Doctor Oh and my husband with Doctor Neal. We really wanted to work on our health and wellness since we are 47 and 56 years old. We both did our first full physicals in past week. I felt so cared for and not rushed at all. The follow up with lab results was prompt and a comprehensive plan of what is working and what needs a little focus to improve health was outlined. I really felt like Doctor Oh understood me and my goals and cared to listen. We have found our new health care medical team to guide us into the next phase of our lives. Just needed a quick TB test to get into the Operating Room. They provided the test there was no waiting time, i was seen right away and was in and out in 15 minutes. I called them later to pick up my results they told me they would have it ready for me. Unfortunately, due to work I was unable to pick it up for a month. Words could never explain how much Dr. Neal actually cares. When I say words could never explain I mean just that. I've never had a dr who has cared for me more than Dr. Neal in my entire life. Dr. Neal is not just a Dr, hes a friend, a life coach, someone you can say or express anything to.
