Therefore, I'm updating my review based on the fact that the entire hospital should not be judged by a few incompetent people in the Emergency Room. To make a patient with chest pains, and critically low oxygen levels that was sent over from Urgent Care wait three hours behind drunks, animal bites, colds and flu etc. is ridiculous, that was incompetence at its peak. To not allow her husband to accompany her when her chart Clearly states that she is having memory issues, is uncaring. To allow other non-Black patients to accompany family members afterwards to Triage , is racist! To have a setup where, in spite of HEPA privacy, the entire waiting room can hear every thing said, is a "bad decision!" But, The hospital side has some of the greatest surgeons in the world, like cardiologist Aziz Ghaly, who has performed so many "impossible surgeries ", including mine, makes up for a lot. The emergency room staff and pediatrics department at this Hospital are amazing. When my son was admitted to the hospital at 2 years old, we had the kindest team supporting us. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and couldn't support my son the way he needed - and they stepped up. Recently, I had to go to the emergency room for myself and had the most amazing doctor. He actually took the time to talk with me like a person. I told him I had autism and that I was struggling to communicate. So he slowed down to make sure I got the support I needed. Even their security guard was super kind. He noticed I was wavering on my feet and got me a chair. We talked about tattoos until they called me in, which really helped my nervous system. And the nurse was really kind, with amazing shimmering shoes lol. We joked that I was taking shots since all my medication was liquid. This is where I go for any emergency needs my family has, and it has stepped up every time. read more

I want to commend Jenni the secretary manager in cardiology. I will re-write this so it's not removed, again. There were 2 parts to my review and the good one is that Jenni listened to my uncle when he needed it most. After being told he couldn't have his heart test because he was in a wheelchair with his sling. He uses a Hoyer lift and the employee who was to help him, said he wasn't going to "risk his career by injuring his back trying to lift him". That's all I will say for that male employee, who wouldn't seek the hoyer lift. My uncle called back to complain and Jenni listened attentively without judgement to neither on the employee she works with or my uncle. Jenni was extremely empathetic and her sincerity resonated an employee who truly cares about the patients, and not "just a person who uses a wheelchair". Applause to Torrance Memorial for having such a dedicated employee, and exemplifies the top notch leadership skills for her team. read more

I feel very fortunate that my insurance company had Torrance Memorial as its main hospital in my area. Though my insurance plan changed after retiring, I still choose this hospital for tests, surgeries, and ER needs because of its network of highly qualified doctors. The hospital is clean, nurses are well trained, and it's located in a safe area. I wound in the ER at around 2AM because of nausea caused by contrast from a CT scan earlier that day that wasn't flushing from my system completely. I arrived at a good time when it wasn't very busy so I was able to be seen quickly. The ER is very patient and respectful. I appreciated the care they provided to get me back to normal as soon as possible. There was only one sticking point in treatment I received. Multiple staff members couldn't find a vein between trying to draw blood and to insert the IV. The result was a bit horrific. The pain wasn't bad but the bruising that resulted was eye opening. You'd think that ER staff would be well versed in finding a vein. Oh well. Alls well that ends well. It was a bit of a marathon that night but I was able to get rid of the contrast in my system and was on my merry way in about 3 hours. Mission accomplished. read more

Great medical facility with very kind, professional and diverse employees. I came for a simple blood test. Gary, from the main lobby, walked me all the way to the area where the phlebotomists are. He was friendly, helpful and kind at all times. At the phlebotomist, a nice blonde lady with glasses whose name was Susan, or Cindy, I can't really recall, was also super helpful in filing out my profile and collecting all of my information. I was one of the first ones to get there, so I was able to get in and out super quickly and do everything I needed to do in a very efficient manner. read more

Worst possible hospital to come to in an emergency. My pregnant wife came bleeding into the hospital and you would think that would constitute as an emergency to them but it didn't. They sent us to 3 waiting rooms. We arrived at 8PM and didn't leave until almost midnight. Its misleading that we got off to a quick start because it just lead to an hour wait. Then somehow, they would only tell me they were ready for her when she went to the bathroom. Then they tell us she had a miscarriage and make us wait longer as she vomits. The staff was nice and professional, but the wait overshadowed that, if that makes sense. Not to mention we were surrounded by horrible, screaming kids with "parents" that had no idea how to keep them under control. Worst place to come in an emergency. Please go somewhere else. This review is for multiple experiences with the emergency department, most recently last night. Ill start by saying we have used TMMC ER multiple times for all 3 of my children in the last year, from my youngest being brought in by paramedics to my oldest 2 having asthma exacerbations requiring steroids. Every time we have been met with kindness, efficiency, and all medical issues have been handled professionally and appropriately for what care one should expect in an ER. Our most recent visit last night was for worsening eye pain for my daughter. The ER was unusually busy and I knew we would be low priority with her complaint. It did take 3 hours to be seen by a Dr, but everyone was so apologetic and I had no complaints on that end, as they were BUSY. The care my daughter received from Dr. Lent was exceptional. She took the time to address her pain and thoroughly examine her. She found a small corneal ulcer, acted quickly on it, and got her treatment and follow up started immediately. I am so grateful for the attention to detail in her exam, even after what I'm assuming was a very long and busy night. Her knowledge and bedside manner were so appreciated, and her care could have prevented a much bigger issue for my daughter's vision. read more

Formal Complaint: Emergency Department Operational Deficiencies I am submitting this formal complaint regarding unsafe and inhumane conditions I observed during my recent emergency department visit at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Critical Issues: Inadequate Facilities and Space The emergency department lacks sufficient treatment rooms. Patients receive care in open, shared spaces with no privacy or separation, creating an unsafe and undignified environment. Privacy Violations Medical conversations, clinical procedures, and patient information are conducted with no acoustic or visual privacy. All patients hear and witness each other's conditions, diagnoses, and treatment details. This violates fundamental standards of medical confidentiality and patient respect. Unsafe Patient Environment Patients in acute distress--experiencing nausea, psychological crisis, and severe pain--are seated directly adjacent to one another without barriers. This creates cross-contamination risks and compounds psychological trauma for vulnerable individuals, including elderly patients and children. Deteriorated Physical Conditions Furniture is worn and inadequate. Overall facility conditions appear neglected and unprepared for safe patient care. Excessive Wait Times Patients endured hours of waiting in these unsafe conditions. Call to Action These conditions are unacceptable and fall below the standard of care expected at a medical facility. The costs charged to patients do not align with the quality of care provided. I urge Torrance Memorial leadership to immediately address these systemic failures. I request written acknowledgment of this complaint and a timeline for remediation. read more

One of the worst hospitals I have ever been to. They do not listen to you they do not give you your meds on time. If I stayed any longer there they probably would have killed me. The nurses do not know what any meds are. They have terrible bed side manner. They need extensive training!! Awful care. I'm leaving more sick than when I came. read more

Well, here I go never thought I would do a review for a hospital. I unfortunately fell down at work and broke my ankle in 3 places. I was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. My Emergency room experience was pretty good. I was admitted to the hospital and I had to have surgery and Dr Zinar was amazing!! Unfortunately, I had to spend two weeks and one day in the hospital due to Worker's Compensation delays. Everyone here is amazing but the time in the hospital was very depressing. I was hoping to go home one day then that sadly did not happen. The food is pretty good. I just wish they had more choices. I was lucky and had a couple meals brought by family. The salads downstairs were pretty darn good. I love my salad. I was also able to try one of their famous breakfast burritos. The hospital can be a very depressing place especially when you're independent and have to rely on other people to help you. I had a very special visitor Lacy a beautiful golden retriever. When I was given the choice of hospitals, I chose Torrance Memorial Hospital. I am happy I chose this hospital and thankful for all the nurses and staff that assisted me during this time. read more

We were in the ED recently for chest pain which turned out to not be a heart attack, thank God! We didn't have to stay inpatient, so I can only comment on the ED and cafe in the main building, but I thought it was really good. We were there for a total of about 5 hours. Our nurse, Jonathan, kept us updated on what was going on and our doctor, Dr. E.B. (forgot her last name but remember the initial) was the most amazing combination of kind and intelligent. Someone walked us to and from the x-ray suite, which I thought was nice. There was a second nurse, Bryan, who came and helped us out as well. It's nice to see teamwork in the ED, I could see the flow of patients picking up around us but we never had to wait too long for an update. I had coffee and a breakfast sandwich ($10) at the cafeteria, which then closed at 10 for cleaning, so my second coffee ($5) was from their little Starbucks stand which was also good. This is unfortunately our second time in the ED here, but both experiences have been great. Everyone from RNs to MDs to phlebotomists to X-ray techs is pleasant and kind. I wouldn't hesitate to come here again, but hopefully we won't need to. read more

Nurse Chris in Radiology made my visit for a cardiac CT angiography scan more amusing than scary. That's really something, especially since I was rather apprehensive coming to the hospital, given my long rap sheet of rare complications. It was amazing amount of care, attention, and time dedicated to making a patience "feel" comfortable and peaceful. His bedside techniques included coming very close to the bed to chat up on something I might find interesting to occupy my mind, while Linda inserted the IV line, which I was so yeeek about. She was good too, once and done. Chris was funny and calming, stayed bedside through the entire process and even during cool off period as the drugs start wearing off and I had the shivers... I spent so many hours starring at the blank ceilings of hospital rooms in laboratory level cold temperatures feeling like a specimen, so I recognize how this was going above and beyond. I also appreciate the Torrance Memorial system for not overbooking, as it would not have been possible in a jam packed booking. Now, to the rest of the experiences - as I have been to Torrance Memorial hospital a LOT of times, and probably 15 different departments, had births, deaths, emergencies - most of the experiences have been positive, though not as exceptional as yesterdays. Overall environment is peaceful and healing, with greeters at the entrance, volunteer ushers, live piano playing sometimes, and pretty good system to help people move throughout. Some exams do take very long to get a date, some doctors are forever wait, but once it's your turn, its good. The cafe is alright, food is decent. I saw signs for 1/2 sandwich with soup for $7.99, which is cheaper than Panera, so I got in line for an beef entre meal with no price sign. It rang up at $13.80, not cheap but doesn't seem to be for any profit either. I sat at the cafe for a while to make sure my dizziness wore off completely before driving, and it was a nice flow of people in and out. read more

I'm with Providence and all my annual bloodwork and ultrasound etc are covered 100% by insurance or just little copay. For some reason, Torrance Memorial codes those services differently and has charged us significant amounts for my kids & my husband. Someone else said the same thing about Torrance Memorial. I told my husband to find a new doctor at Providence so he can switch. read more

My dad was brought in to the ICU due to some health issues. The doctors, nurses and staff were outstanding. Then shift change happens and we get this nurse named Marsha, she came in ready with a plan. She demanded progress, pushed my dad to a become more responsive. She was working the night shift non stop, she did not take one break. She did it all with a smile, she was caring, she was kind, she was really a blessing. I am thankful for the whole care staff (nurse Anna (knowledgeable) nurse Esther (follow through) and nurse Marsha (who you would want on these difficult times) Again thank you all. read more

If you are looking for a facility run by a revolving door of apathetic, incompetent and predatory administrators, look no further. My experience trying to secure basic human decency for my mother here has been pure hell. My mother has late-stage dementia and is completely non-verbal. Despite my constant, daily pleading, the doctor neglected her pain for an entire week. We are now two and a half weeks in, and they still haven't figured out how to properly manage her comfort. Their only real "solution" has been a desperate push to get her onto hospice--not for her well-being, but so they can wash their hands of treating her illness altogether. The administration is just as useless as the clinical team. They suddenly claimed she had been discharged days ago and tried to stick me with the bill for their own documentation delay. But when the hospice team, the board and care staff, and I actually tried to coordinate her departure, the admin changed their tune and claimed there were suddenly no discharge orders on file. They can't even keep their own cash-grab stories straight. Between the administrative gaslighting and the fact that they can't even reliably ensure she is fed, this place is a complete disaster zone. I could go on for days about the absolute garbage I've had to deal with over the last few weeks. God forbid I ever get sick, because I would rather suffer anywhere else than end up at the mercy of these people. To be fair, while individual nurses exhibited varying degrees of personal apathy, the root of this disaster is a complete and catastrophic lack of continuity: my mother never had the same nurse twice over a two-and-a-half-week period. Without a single thread of consistency, patient ownership was non-existent. read more

ER: The ER is probably the best around the area. If you are truly in need of treatment they get you in asap. I've been to other hospitals where I had to wait in order and was dying in the waiting room. The nurses and doctors all have excellent bedside manners and do their best to help you feel comfortable and get better. Labor and delivery: These nurses are truly the best nurses ever! I felt so safe and cared for by them. They all went above and beyond for me and truly made a hard delivery as comfortable as they could. They were so encouraging and really helped me along the whole process. The best of the best! Mother care unit: This where I take off one star. I would give them a 3/5 stars for this unit alone. One older lady was so rude and seemed like taking care of me was not apart of her job description. Really all the nurses weren't as kind and caring as the labor and delivery. All of them come in and tell you different things about breast feeding. They all seemed crabby and were just mean. read more

PROFITS OVER PATIENTS. A 3 hour ER visit and they over billed me $18,000. First I get a bill for $3000 then I requested cpt and diagnoses codes and they re-billed me for $18,000. Clearly, they don't recognize patients right to self pay and over bill me by 6x. This hospital's unethical and possibly illegal billing practices, have put me in a deep financial hole. read more

It was our first time going to Torrance Memorial Medical Center to have our second child. The facility was clean and beautifully designed, but more importantly, the staff were just the absolute best. Jack (Jacque) and all the other incredible nurses, doctors, and staff members were compassionate and eager to help with all our needs. My wife and I felt incredibly well-taken care of and informed with all the necessary details (and options) to make the pregnancy go as smooth as possible. Even on our drive back home, we couldn't stop praising how wonderful our experience was throughout.. if you're gonna have a baby, I seriously recommend you to go here. They are awesome. Clean, well-run, well-staffed hospital. All providers I have interacted with have been so kind and understanding and provided great care.

I had high hopes for NVision after my 8:15am appointment. The receptionist, Lurena, was incredibly kind and made me feel well taken care of. She told me I was a perfect candidate for laser surgery, which gave me confidence in the process. However, things took a disappointing turn when I met with this Asian doctor. I explained that I didn't have insurance and would be paying out of pocket. After that, the energy completely shifted. The doctor told me they couldn't help me and referred me elsewhere--despite your website stating that NVision helps all glaucoma patients. It felt like I was dismissed simply because I didn't have insurance. I left feeling disappointed, unheard, and like I had completely wasted my time and money. If NVision only works with insured patients, that should be made clear upfront. This was an incredibly frustrating experience. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this hospital. Long story short, my mom passed away here. Because i live an hour away, they said i could see her in the morgue for a viewing at 5pm. When i arrived at the agreed upon time, i was told she was already picked up by the mortuary. I rushed to the mortuary, which by that time was closed. Then I received a call that she was still in fact, at the hospital. This was very emotionally draining for me to have to drive all over. My conclusion about TMH is that there is a serious deficit in communication among staff. read more

I began the new year with severe stomanc pain that turned out to be an appendicitis. My kids were born at this hospital but this was my first time as a patient. ER- I first tried to go on a Thursday night at 9pm but the line was out the door and the waiting room full. I decided to go home and try again the next day. Friday morning at 615am the ER was empty and I was seen in about an hour. I had a ct scan which revealed the appendicitis and I was admitted. It amazed me how crowded the er was with people at such an off time and it seemed like a lot of the people there would be better treated at urgent care. I was admitted about 3 hours after I walked into the er. Overall the care I got in the er was just ok- but this has more to do with America's shitty healthcare system than Torrance Memorial. Emergency Surgery- I've never had emergency surgery before but overall I was impressed with the pre operating room and nurses. Everything was clean and efficient and nursing staff here was top notch. They really knew what they were doing and genuinely cared about my well being. The surgeon assigned to me seemed knowledgeable and got the job done. My surgery was successful. Inpatient stay-I was assigned to the 4th floor. Room 409. This is normally a short term stay wing but I was there 2 full nights. I'm no expert at hospital stays but classify the room as just ok. The tv didn't work well and I had to ask them to hook up the phone and bed light- i don't think my room was used for overnights often. The nursing staff seemed friendly enough and knowledgeable. One of my nurses was floating and had rotated in recently. I think he was from Arizona. The other, Grace seemed more permanent and lived locally. They had clear routines which were followed religiously. The food was ok but sometimes I'd forget to order things like ketchup and my meals were often cold by the time they arrived- but hey at least I got what I ordered. The coffee was rough. Overall I'd rate my experience as pretty good. Not as plush as when my kids were born- but considering this was an unplanned emergency inpatient surgery in the developed worlds worst heath care system I give it two thumbs up. read more

Once they make a billing mistake it takes a huge amount of time to fix it. You are on hold for a long amount of time listening to the recording over and over telling you, you can leave your phone number and they will get back to you by the end of the next day. Horrible customer service read more

This past year I've had multiple visits to the Torrance memorial ER & I could say the Hospital itself has done good in caring for me from Doctors to surgeons to nurses . Admission in there young adult ER room was quite comfy despite getting treatment for a swollen appendix. Thank you a lot Torrance memorial for being patient with my mother and I despite frequent visits. I do want to appreciate the nurses! Torrance Memorial Medical Center is the most unprofessional, bureaucratic hospital I've ever dealt with. Despite California law allowing hospitals to consider multiple possible surrogates for an incapacitated patient, Torrance Memorial gave full control to a manipulative, completely self-centered spouse and repeatedly justified banning me from seeing my touch-and-go ICU father with "we have to respect the wishes of the wife." Any pushback was met with some version of "take it to court." They also upheld this ban for my father's elderly sister and mother but allowed anyone else in that my mother approved of. The nurses were often cruel, rude, and humiliating toward family members my mother didn't like. Multiple relatives were treated with open contempt, and it genuinely felt like we were being punished for being labeled a problem family and the most aggressive, unprofessional, and cruel nurses were assigned to my father as we continued to seem problematic to the nursing staff. Dr. Hugo Hool in oncology (at least, in my experience--YMMV) has an atrocious bedside manner. He was dismissive, arrogant, condescending, and quick to accuse us of consulting "Doctor Google," while expecting hefty praise for what he framed as some special, unorthodox treatment for my father that was only done on a sign of "goodwill" from the hospital. I never want to step foot in Torrance Memorial again, and I hope very few people have experiences like this. TL;DR: Humiliating, hostile experience. If your family looks dysfunctional, expect family members to be treated poorly and if a toxic spouse has power, the hospital will back them no matter what. Nurses can also be extremely unprofessional, cruel, and rude to family members. Administration and patient relations don't care. read more

The doctors are very skilled and knowledgeable and professional in their care. The nurses take their time with supportive care and scheduling from the office to the hospital. Excellent patient care both in the ER and hospital patient rooms (5th floor West). I just left after being in the hospital for 6 days. The care and kindness by the entire staff was incredible. (Thanking by name: Pia, Jillian, Julienne, Lynece, Margie and their assistants. (Lynece and Virginia went over and beyond with assisting me the last 2 days and on my discharge). If you want to die in the waiting room, then by all means. This place is horrible. I'm pregnant and in so much pain, I went to these people for help and everyone is moving around slow as fuck. The staff is slow and walking around doing absolutely nothing. I literally sat in the waiting room in agonizing pain, they moved me to their "fast track" waiting room which was filled with 20 other people. Again, I'm PREGNANT and NO ONE helped me. I got up and left. This place deserves to be called an Urgent Care, this is no emergency room. You will die before you see a medical staff member. read more

I used to love coming here but after my last visit never again . I went here to the er because of chills and fever etc they checked me did bloodwork and send me home . Now I am a dialysis patient and what I had was a sepsis blood Infection . They said "we will call you with the results and we will let you know whether to come back or stay home " they NEVER CALLED! . Thank God all mighty for ST Francis I felt worse and my wife called ambulance and they took me there and they told me I had sepsis and checked me in right away I was in extra bad shape that I already am being on dialysis . If I woulda waited at home for Torrance memorial to call I would have died . This broke my heart because I considered them my go to hospital. read more
