The bruising a couple of days after my ER visit.
    Steve O.

I feel very fortunate that my insurance company had Torrance Memorial as its main hospital in my area. Though my insurance plan changed after retiring, I still choose this hospital for tests, surgeries, and ER needs because of its network of highly qualified doctors. The hospital is clean, nurses are well trained, and it's located in a safe area. I wound in the ER at around 2AM because of nausea caused by contrast from a CT scan earlier that day that wasn't flushing from my system completely. I arrived at a good time when it wasn't very busy so I was able to be seen quickly. The ER is very patient and respectful. I appreciated the care they provided to get me back to normal as soon as possible. There was only one sticking point in treatment I received. Multiple staff members couldn't find a vein between trying to draw blood and to insert the IV. The result was a bit horrific. The pain wasn't bad but the bruising that resulted was eye opening. You'd think that ER staff would be well versed in finding a vein. Oh well. Alls well that ends well. It was a bit of a marathon that night but I was able to get rid of the contrast in my system and was on my merry way in about 3 hours. Mission accomplished.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great medical facility with very kind, professional and diverse employees.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came for a simple blood test. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Gary, from the main lobby, walked me all the way to the area where the phlebotomists are. He was friendly, helpful and kind at all times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]At the phlebotomist, a nice blonde lady with glasses whose name was Susan, or Cindy, I can't really recall, was also super helpful in filing out my profile and collecting all of my information.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was one of the first ones to get there, so I was able to get in and out super quickly and do everything I needed to do in a very efficient manner.

Well, here I go never thought I would do a review for a hospital. I unfortunately fell down at work and broke my ankle in 3 places. I was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. My Emergency room experience was pretty good. I was admitted to the hospital and I had to have surgery and Dr Zinar was amazing!! Unfortunately, I had to spend two weeks and one day in the hospital due to Worker's Compensation delays. Everyone here is amazing but the time in the hospital was very depressing. I was hoping to go home one day then that sadly did not happen. The food is pretty good. I just wish they had more choices. I was lucky and had a couple meals brought by family. The salads downstairs were pretty darn good. I love my salad. I was also able to try one of their famous breakfast burritos. The hospital can be a very depressing place especially when you're independent and have to rely on other people to help you. I had a very special visitor Lacy a beautiful golden retriever. When I was given the choice of hospitals, I chose Torrance Memorial Hospital. I am happy I chose this hospital and thankful for all the nurses and staff that assisted me during this time.

Uhm, hospital rating not so high on ability to care after an earthquake. Sign in radiology waiting area

Nurse Chris in Radiology made my visit for a cardiac CT angiography scan more amusing than scary. That's really something, especially since I was rather apprehensive coming to the hospital, given my long rap sheet of rare complications. It was amazing amount of care, attention, and time dedicated to making a patience "feel" comfortable and peaceful. His bedside techniques included coming very close to the bed to chat up on something I might find interesting to occupy my mind, while Linda inserted the IV line, which I was so yeeek about. She was good too, once and done. Chris was funny and calming, stayed bedside through the entire process and even during cool off period as the drugs start wearing off and I had the shivers... I spent so many hours starring at the blank ceilings of hospital rooms in laboratory level cold temperatures feeling like a specimen, so I recognize how this was going above and beyond. I also appreciate the Torrance Memorial system for not overbooking, as it would not have been possible in a jam packed booking. Now, to the rest of the experiences - as I have been to Torrance Memorial hospital a LOT of times, and probably 15 different departments, had births, deaths, emergencies - most of the experiences have been positive, though not as exceptional as yesterdays. Overall environment is peaceful and healing, with greeters at the entrance, volunteer ushers, live piano playing sometimes, and pretty good system to help people move throughout. Some exams do take very long to get a date, some doctors are forever wait, but once it's your turn, its good. The cafe is alright, food is decent. I saw signs for 1/2 sandwich with soup for $7.99, which is cheaper than Panera, so I got in line for an beef entre meal with no price sign. It rang up at $13.80, not cheap but doesn't seem to be for any profit either. I sat at the cafe for a while to make sure my dizziness wore off completely before driving, and it was a nice flow of people in and out.

I had high hopes for NVision after my 8:15am appointment. The receptionist, Lurena, was incredibly kind and made me feel well taken care of. She told me I was a perfect candidate for laser surgery, which gave me confidence in the process. However, things took a disappointing turn when I met with this Asian doctor. I explained that I didn't have insurance and would be paying out of pocket. After that, the energy completely shifted. The doctor told me they couldn't help me and referred me elsewhere--despite your website stating that NVision helps all glaucoma patients. It felt like I was dismissed simply because I didn't have insurance. I left feeling disappointed, unheard, and like I had completely wasted my time and money. If NVision only works with insured patients, that should be made clear upfront. This was an incredibly frustrating experience.

After completing the paperwork, a staff member named "Lauren" (white late 20-ish year old) informed us that because this was a work related injury, we needed to contact his employer's HR department, as they are not a workers' comp facility. I asked her directly if that meant they could not treat him despite the urgency, and she REITERATED that we needed to go through HR so they could refer us elsewhere. Feeling frustrated, I initially left but returned to ask for her name. At that point, her explanation changed. She stated, in a very condescending and disrespectful manner, that she had intended to say they would see him, but that I didn't let her finish. ALL BULL -she was clearly finished. I told her that she was now saying something different because I came back to ask for her name and was not going to put up/accept the fact that she turned us away. I totally called her on her BS. Maybe she is used to talking down to people, but I didn't take her shit. Overall, this experience was extremely frustrating, especially given the urgency of my son's condition. I had a bad experience with Dr. Tsai: or, more accurately, I had barely any experience at all with…read moreDr. Tsai. He was committed to his theory of my having covid, and his simple answer was to turn me away. The whole thing was a farce from start to finish. THE CONTEXT: Some months back, after we were all vaccinated and Biden had declared the pandemic over, I came down with standard cold/flu symptoms. I didn't think much of it, but I took a rapid covid test anyway, and that came back negative. A few days passed and my symptoms worsened, and this time came chest pain. I had pneumonia as a child, and I don't mess around with chest pain. I took another covid test, also negative, and then tried to set up my appointment. THE RUNAROUND: I tried to get an appointment, and they pitched me that new nonsense "telehealth." I told them that wouldn't work since the whole point is that I need a doctor to listen to my chest and back, because I had pneumonia as a child and now I'm worried about chest pain. I assured them I had already tested negative twice. They said we could start with telehealth and then decide what to do next, and I said that sounded like a great waste of time and money, so they grudgingly brought me in. THE APPOINTMENT: No complaints about the wait time! I was swept into the back upon arrival, like I had the plague. Doctor came in with full mask and face shield, told me that my symptoms sounded like covid, and casually threw in that "this is why we like people to start with telehealth." I told him I had tested negative twice already. He hemmed and hawed "yeah but, yeah but, I'd be more comfortable if you got a third one, from the PCR test." Okay, sounds pointless but let's do it, bring it on. "No no, we don't do them here." You don't... do it here? At the doctor's office? He never even got close enough to hold his stethoscope up to me or listen to my breathing. I told him it wasn't covid but, even if it was, I still needed help with my chest pain. Nothing doing. He even made me leave through a back door. No joke. THE FALLOUT: I head out to get my third covid test, because I guess doctors don't give covid tests. Okay. I almost drive past the "facility": a folding table set up on a street corner, with narry an employee in sight. I wait around until the employees come back from lunch. They make me do some QR code nonsense and then wait around, outdoors, sick, with no chairs, while I wait for another off-site worker to call me for... you guessed it... telehealth!! Feeling twice as sick as I was that morning, I wait 30 minutes for their nonsense video call, finish it, and get deemed worthy of a PCR test. I do the PCR test, drive home miserably, and the PCR test comes back negative because of course it does. I was sick with one of myriad illnesses that don't happen to be covid. The whole experience was bizarre. It was like the doctor WANTED me to have covid, like that would give him a free pass on treating me. He won't test for it, won't treat it, won't have it in his office... Covid is infectious and dangerous, but what do these people think that a doctor's job is? Legitimately, what do they think the job entails? Anyway, after my third negative test, I wasn't interested in learning whether or not Dr. Tsai would be satisfied. I wasted almost an entire day, and I learned diddly squat except that I will never go to this doctor again.

Monday 14, 2025 I…read morewas suffering with horrible pain in my abdomen over the weekend I made it to Monday morning. in the morning I called my primary Anna she mentioned to get to the urgent care. In which they could not assist me. My heart rate was high. They referred me to Emergency. My heart was beating rapidly after that things just seem to move. I was called in to get labs done and before you know it I was in the back in a bed and given thier strongest antibiotics. A CT scan was next to find out what is wrong. In walks Doctor Rodriguez letting me know I had an abcess caused from my appendix. Surgery was not possible for my situation. There goal was to get rid of the abcess. After a few days on antibiotics the abcess disappeared. I was then released 2 days later. I had the most awesome nurses that made me feel I wasn't a burden while I had to go to the ladies room a million times. My entire care there was perfect.

My, how the mighty have fallen…read more I have been here once - maybe a little bit more than a decade ago, and that experience (not my own) was stellar. So when my GodKid had a medical situation (urgent care couldn't handle it) they advised to go the ER. They suggested Torrance Memorial, but GK said this place should be okay, too. Came through, dropped her off at the front door and parked. Played the waiting game. This is where it all went down. She was called the first time to get her personal info and got vitals. She sat back down at the waiting room. She got called a second time - way after the first time, and she is not looking good at this point - to administer her meds. She yacked it out almost immediately. I heard the nurse tell her, "we will have to administer it through an IV." She asked another nurse (who took her info and vitals earlier) if GK has been given an IV, to which that nurse - without even looking at what patient was being asked about - responded with "yes." Current nurse said, "I don't see that on record..." as she went through her computer screen. And that's when other nurse finally looked at my GK and said, "Oh, no. I only gave her pills." That can be dangerous! What if meds was asked about and was given the wrong info?!? Then GK got sent back to the waiting room AGAIN! While waiting, they were calling on patients whom they've already brought back - for X-rays or other things. This happened multiple times. It really REALLY bothers me that they're losing track of where these people are! Much more time goes by, then finally a doctor came out for her. My poor GK is looking extra pale at this point, but was told she will be getting a bed soon. Soon was about 30 minutes later and I overheard another staff saying she (along with other ER patients) were going to an overflow room. Boy, that placed looked like an abandoned wing of the hospital. Her bed didn't even have flat sheets or pillows... good thing we brought her blankets! She was finally discharged about 8hrs later. She did feel better and made a full recovery a couple of days later. Urgent care recommended Torrance Memorial because "they're faster." We should have listened the first time. But one thing is for sure: I will never take her back here again.
