The room was nice, except that it was so hot and without air conditioning, it was a bit tough sleeping that night. Since it is such an old building, not everything is perfect. Our bathroom door wouldn't close. There was a nice Preseco party and a discussion of the history of the building, which was fun and interesting. They took pictures of everyone and had them sitting at your table in the dining room. After that, we went to dinner where our party was seated at a large round table which was nice so that we could see and talk to everyone. The menu was interesting and I had been craving chicken and was happy to find it there. They brought all 11 meals at once and presented them. Nice touch! Chicken was tasty. Afterwards, we had drinks at the bar and played some snooker (we kind of made up our own rules). The bartenders were very friendly. We had breakfast thr next morning which was nice.

I started with a nice blue cheese and pear salad that I really enjoyed. My entrée was a plain old cheeseburger that honestly was stellar! It was piled high with sautéed onions and served with a tomato relish, side salad and French fries. Breakfast was buffet style and if you wanted a full Irish Breakfast you could assemble all of the necessary components. We saw one breakfast choice for the very first time on our Ireland trip -watermelon !

The food was great for breakfast and dinner. We had to go and get an order to go because one of my family members came down with a cold, and a bowl of soup is exactly what she needed. With service, there were times were people in our group tried getting a waiter's attention and it took a while for them to get them to take their order. The room was a very nice place to rest our heads. The bath was also a Jacuzzi, but it also came with a nice shower. So, if you are not a bath person, the shower was amazing. In our room, we had a "mini bar" that, if we brought back wine, there were wine glasses to be able to enjoy it. There is air conditioning in the room, which was a nice touch since I like a cold room when sleeping.

The stately castle hotel, part of the Relais and Chateau association, is a welcoming beacon in the Connemara. Adjacent to a trout/salmon stream just a mile from the ocean and featuring extensive woodland walking trails, one can't help but feel at peace. In fact there's an overwhelming feeling of coziness and calm in the spacious suites with a view to the woods and water. Our suite, #36 was so quiet and beautiful it was a treat returning to it after exploring the wild Atlantic way. The two easy chairs with views quickly became our his/hers perches for reflection. Our superior king suite itself was very large with a four poster bed and ample room to spread out and settle in while the generous bathroom with its tub, shower, two sinks and make up desk added to our comfort. With its two restaurants the fisherman's pub (casual) and fine dining Owenmore restaurant one never need seek sustenance elsewhere. The beautiful breakfast that was included provided masterfully cooked to order entrees along with a sumptuous buffet each morning to get you started on your day of exploration. Next day was Sarah, she had accomodate me and my friend to sit in a corner I requested which is near the window with a view of the weather outside. I commend this 2 staff since they were excellent in what they do to make the tourist people like us to enjoy our stay and tour. Give them 5 star.

A full Irish breakfast is on offer and a full breakfast buffet with fruit, yogurt, and cereal. There is an outdoor patio with loads of seating. This place was recommended by a friend who stayed recently and it did not disappoint, it pitches itself as luxury budget accommodation and it was just that, cheap at just €50 for double room en-suite per night and had all the comforts and cleanliness I look for in a hotel but with our active itinerary we wanted to be close to the action yet not in a hostel! Owner Mike and the staff really make this place special, warmly welcome and throughout our stay, were lovely and genuine. They offered great advice on local hiking trails plus some tips on cycling routes which I'm so glad they did, Alan's recommendation on a route for cycling of the Connemara Loop ended in such a scenic trail with lakes and mountain back drops. There is an on site restaurant and bar too which is; 1. Great Value 2. Amazingly Tasty and Portioned well 3. Cosy place to unwind after activities Will be coming back here for sure and already gave this place a mention to a colleague wanting to see the best of Connemara this summer. Turned out to have the best food in Ireland, awesome people (staff and guests), and was super affordable. This is the best hostel I have stayed at in a long time!
