Our bathroom door wouldn't close. There was a nice Preseco party and a discussion of the history of the building, which was fun and interesting. They took pictures of everyone and had them sitting at your table in the dining room. After that, we went to dinner where our party was seated at a large round table which was nice so that we could see and talk to everyone. The menu was interesting and I had been craving chicken and was happy to find it there. They brought all 11 meals at once and presented them. Nice touch! Chicken was tasty. Afterwards, we had drinks at the bar and played some snooker (we kind of made up our own rules). The bartenders were very friendly. We had breakfast thr next morning which was nice.

This is one of the most chill places I've ever had the privilege of staying. The rooms are small but incredibly comfortable despite the dodgy plumbing. We booked in for three nights on a bed, breakfast and dinner package with 3 other couples on the bank holiday weekend in June. We had a blast. The food is magnificent. The breakfast alone sets the tome for the day and dinner is a delight. Nothing fancy. Just good wholesome food, beautifully presented and with well drilled and attentive staff. Relax at any time during the day in several day rooms with coffee or booze more or less on tap. Live music at night in the bar after dinner leading to a sing song ranging from Irish ballads to ABBA ensure a relaxing, no hassle weekend. During the day, there is so much to see and do in the beautiful Connemara countryside within easy striking distance of the hotel. Must see tourist destinations such as Kylemore Abbey and chic food trucks such as The Misunderstood Heron in nearby Letterfrack have to be experienced. Experience also the grounds in the immediate vicinity for a bracing walk in the afternoon or even a dip in the sea right next to the hotel. For the less adventurous, the hotel,has a heated outdoor swimming pool as well. Given that it was an all-in package it was incredibly good value in my opinion. Highly recommended. Will definitely return. It's a minimum 4.5 hour drive from Dublin so need at least 3 nights to get the full chillax experience.

The stately castle hotel, part of the Relais and Chateau association, is a welcoming beacon in the Connemara. Adjacent to a trout/salmon stream just a mile from the ocean and featuring extensive woodland walking trails, one can't help but feel at peace. In fact there's an overwhelming feeling of coziness and calm in the spacious suites with a view to the woods and water. Our suite, #36 was so quiet and beautiful it was a treat returning to it after exploring the wild Atlantic way. The two easy chairs with views quickly became our his/hers perches for reflection. Our superior king suite itself was very large with a four poster bed and ample room to spread out and settle in while the generous bathroom with its tub, shower, two sinks and make up desk added to our comfort. With its two restaurants the fisherman's pub (casual) and fine dining Owenmore restaurant one never need seek sustenance elsewhere. The beautiful breakfast that was included provided masterfully cooked to order entrees along with a sumptuous buffet each morning to get you started on your day of exploration. Every room but for those occupied was open, providing a true run-of-the-house feel. The food and service exceeded five stars...simply delicious. What fun with potatoes, and extensive vegetarian offerings without so much as a blink. Between the gardens, grounds, and an old nearby cemetery where we sat smoking Cuban cigars and overlooking a bluff, we knew we'd found a slice of heaven. The room was very quiet and thus we slept well but would have been assisted by another blanket as the duvet was too warm for a summers night. Good selection of in room beverage tea/coffee, small fridge made for a comfortable stay. All the staff were lovely but Adrian deserves a special mention; he was young enthusiastic and chatty and made one particular supper in the bar very enjoyable. Despite only being young (still at school!) he had natural charm and affability. Our selection of food dishes were all delicious and the bar area provides a contemporary atmosphere.

They contract with local tour guides to pick you up if you wish to take an island tour. The front desk is pretty strict about check-in and didn't let us check in before 3PM even though we were on the 10:30AM ferry that got in around 11:30AM, but they do let you store your luggage behind the front desk. P.S. They tend to have a lot of weddings at this hotel as there are banquet tents, so be prepared for potential parties (bachelor or bachelorette) on certain weekends.

That was my welcome to the Bervie guesthouse on Achill. The place itself is beautiful with years and years of love infused into it. The rooms are bright, airy, clean and comfortable and the hosts are lovely people. They do an awesome deal for a weekend B and B with one night's dinner for around 160 Euro. This is all great but I haven't even started talking about the food yet. The breakfast was out of this world. Proper full Irish and every ingredient tasted fresh and delicious. There was a great buffet option as well with cereals and fruit etc as well as some lighter options like poached eggs and Salmon. Then we had the dinner. Wow. Best food I have tasted in an age. I had confit duck, lamb sausage and haricot beans for starter. Steak, amazingly done, with mushrooms infused with wine and veg and mash and roast spuds. Followed by a passionfruit crème brulee. I don't think I can even describe how good this food was but you can see the pics for a rough idea! The whole guest house is superb, right on the beach in one of the most spectacular spots in Ireland. I will be back, lots and lots. I cannot recommend this place enough! It had been unseasonably hot for Ireland so I had not packed adequately and purchased some shorts and t-shirts for the 85 degree weather. By the time we arrived in Keel I had worn all the clothes I purchased so we asked Elizabeth if there was a laundry nearby to wash them. She would not think of it, she took the clothes and washed them for us. I'm extremely particular about my laundry, I only air dry my clothes and Elizabeth was so accommodating to hang them outside to dry. The room was perfect and only finished second to the amazing views from our window. The beds were as comfortable as home, the beach is only 200 meters outside your door, and Elizabeth even got us a bottle of wine to enjoy as we watched the night fade over the ocean. We could not have asked for a more perfect experience.
