My favourite campsite in the whole wide world…read more I really shouldn't be writing this review as I want to keep it a secret.... but Bycross Farm Campsite has been in the Telegraphs top ten UK campsites, so I think the cat is out of the bag now. Oh well. We've camped here four times now and its always been a lovely experience and on our most recent trip we were the only people here, which was nice. We initially found this campsite when we did our first canoe trip down the River Wye, it was on the Wye Valley Canoe Centres list of places to camp on the river route. That is you could land your canoe at these locations and camp up. The overall highlight of this place is its an apple orchard. A magical setting to be honest as the place is surrounded with fabulous bird life. Be warned the dawn chorus in the summer time is mega here, so if you don't want to be woken, bring good ear plugs. Otherwise, lie back and test out your knowledge of birdsong. Another highlight is this camp is it allows camp fires, unlike most other campsites I've stayed at in the UK. The owner treats campers like the adults they are and as a result the positive camping experience is increased ten fold. Before now there was one shower and two toilets, which was just about enough. But one our recent stay I found out that a whole shower & toilet block has been built out the back. And an excellent one it is too. There are also more wash up sinks, I think three more to the existing one that was already there at the existing toilet block. It's a little rough and ready, but that is what makes Bycross in my opinion the nicest place in the world when it comes to camping. No manicured lawns. There are very little notices up telling you what you are not allow to do. In June 2013 it cost 5 GBP per person per night. The hot power showers will cost you 1 GBP per five mins. For me this is excellent value for a fantastic camping experience.

Honestly the best camp site I've EVER been to. Ever…read more The main USP of this place is its privacy. Pitches are hidden away and branch off from bumpy walking paths and are surrounded by woodland. The pitches are so far apart from each other that you'll often forget you have neighbours. An awesome option which I tried for the first time here, as we were only staying for one night, are the pre-erected tents. It felt like a bit of a cop out but was an absolute godsend. When we arrived, we were shown to the load/unload point nearest to our spot. Depending on where you're located on the site, you then use their huge wheelbarrows to lug your gear to your spot which could be anywhere from a 1-6 minute walk-ish. Most, if not all of the pitches come with a handmade canopy area and some kind of hand crafted seating arrangement / bench area which can vary in quality dependant on what you've paid. The pre-erected tent that we paid for came with EVERYTHING. A washing up area with water butt, bowl, washing up liquid, tea towels; a kitchenette type arrangement with gas, cooker (2 hobs), kettle, and a big cupboard which contained all your kitchen utensils and cutlery etc. Oh, and a coolbox too! Although it was a bit knackered due to squirrels trying to break and enter... We also had a real charming dining area with a big table and benches which where made by the owner's son. SO impressed. Additionally as part of this package we got a fire pit/grill thing so we obviously had a BBQ for dinner and breakfast. Fuel is available to buy from the reception for a decent price. Everything here is GREEN - they really pride themselves on being environmentally friendly. They're big on recycling and enthusiastic about respecting your surroundings. Some of their rules can be a bit confusing, mainly if you've had a few beers before visiting the bathroom... There are two toilets in a cubicle. One for 1s and another for 2s! Also no flush, just a jug, and some sawdust. Totally fine though. On site there's a little cafe which is only open at certain times, I didn't get chance to visit but seemed lovely. There's a communal washing up point for the visitors who don't have their own, and a freezer for you to help yourself to ice packs for your cooler - they've really thought of everything to make your stay as easy as possible! The owners are great, too. Dead interesting characters and so friendly and helpful. And they own goats, dogs, and chickens! Think they might be my idols. Living the dream.

Customer service is excellent, and nothing is too much trouble, be it a problem or just gathering information. Having used them for all sorts of camping products, I do not even look elsewhere, it is just straight there. Worth a visit for anything outdoors or camping or caravaning.

It contains 90 self-contained, privately owned caravans, which are a range accomodate a range of party sizes. It is open 11 months of the year and is suitable for families with children and petsit is reall close to the Captains Wife Pub which does great food and drink The sea view are amazing and also the views of Sully Island. which can be walked to when the tide is out The park contains beautiful, well-kept gardens and was awarded a David Bellamy Silver Award in 2003 for its commitment to conservation and environment. It is an ideal place for potential buyers as it contains splendid, Scandinavian log cabins that are surrounded by a walled garden and privately owned woods.

This campsite has the cleanest toilet & shower block I have ever seen…read more They have a small Spar shop onsite with 2 small children's play areas and an outdoor pool. The roof top bar has reasonably priced food, basic entertainment and beautiful views out to sea. While we we there they used the large playing field to put an absolutely massive bouncy castle in. They also have a few security guards wandering around who are courteous which is a nice peace of mind. Only very slight negatives here are that the pitches are relatively closely packed together so if you have small kids and have a noisy pitch next door or vice versa it may be a challenge. However, it's really a lovely site in a lovely location and that shouldn't put you off. Some reviews mention the proximity of the cliffs but they are at the end of a long walk and a beach so unless you aren't watching your children for ages is not a problem at all. Take your fishing rods as the beach is great for Mackerel fishing so good to spend some time fishing with the kids. People were catching loads without effort.

My parents sited their caravan here by chance, we will now camp there for several weeks and many weekends through out the year. Owned by fantastically friendly people too. Build camp fires where you wish, play in the river, go horse riding or on picturesque walks through and around the Doone Valley. I'm a photographer / walker and I absolutely love it here, so does my other half and our 4yr old daughter as well as my parents.

Beautiful stunted oak wood covered in moss and lichen. Dog friendly though lots of sheep wandering about. Very helpful and friendly owner. We're definitely coming back in the spring for a longer stay.

I first came across it when I got lost while wondering around Pontcanna fields. I was looking for a way out and instead found myself in this lovely little site. There is little cafe there and you can hire a bike though pedal power and being right in the park its ideal for budget stays in the city. Its only a ten minute walk though the wonderful park to get to the city. I popped to the toilet block which were very nice and clean and then asked the kind warden how I could get out.

I tried it in Paris once but didn't get more than an hours sleep before i was moved on. However here in Cardiff things are little more civilized. Cardiff Council in their wisdom have provided such a facility right next to Sophia Garden where the city centre is but a hop skip and a jump away (although i'd advise you just to walk it if you're over the age of 6 otherwise you might draw some strange looks from strangers). It has an on site cafe, toilets, showers and everything, well i say everything but that's about it - well what more do you want when you're trying to get closer to mother earth? Gosh, talk about serendipity, I just welcomed my friend home and asked where she'd been for the last couple of days. 'Three Cliffs Bay Caravan Site', says she. And I stare back google-eyed. So it's a pretty popular spot for the people of South Wales to escape to for a couple of nights away. It's also massively popular for summer holidays and can be seriously booked up during July and August. So get in there fast kids! The facilities are good, and there's everything you need to look after yourself while away. They also have a particularly good children's play area. While certain sections of this camp site can get very busy, usually you'll be able to escape to a quieter field. It can get a little bit blustery though!
