I know there are some places where you pay an arm and a leg for some plain wood thing to hang on the wall but here everything seems pretty tame. Nikau is a shop that seems to really understand and connect with that culture. Everything inside is authentic and stunning! There's a huge variety of things from expensive but awesome pounamu (greenstone) necklaces to quirky little aprons, candles, house decor accessories and cheaper trinkets and jewelry. If you're wanting to buy souvenirs for family and friends you are sure to find something that suits every one of them inside here!

I tried my best to keep the touching to a minimum, but as anyone who has ever had a toddler knows, that is a challenge. My child did not break or even come close to breaking anything. Anything she moved I returned to its original place immediately. Yet the shop woman said to me in an extremely rude manner that she 'could not have' a child touching her goods. She said that she found it offensive that my child touched her products. This shop is a souvenir shop - not a fine arts gallery. I was basically kicked out of the store for attempting to shop with a toddler. Her attitude was unacceptable. I will not shop at Nikau again and cannot recommend the shop to anyone I know.
