Our daughter, Evelyn, would come to karate classes with us to watch her brother take his Karate class. Action Karate had a "Siblings Week" where siblings of students already enrolled in karate, could take a class with them for a week. Evelyn was hesitant, but wanted to give it a try. At first Evelyn was shy and reserved but grew to love going to class as well as making new friends. Evelyn became fast friends with Nadia and Natalie, who were currently taking classes and wanted to join them. After "siblings week" we enrolled Evelyn in karate class and each day, Evelyn would come up to me saying she wanted to quit, that it was too hard. We would sit her down and explain that everything is not easy, there will always be times where something is hard and you cannot quit because it is hard. As time has gone by, Evelyn was gaining more and more confidence in herself and would raise her hand each class to lead the class in the beginning creed. Evelyn's voice became louder and louder and her strength and determination grew each day forward. Evelyn would progress form white belt, to yellow belt to orange belt, etc. and would develop more and more confidence. Evelyn worked hard during a summer HITT class where she would take the class for a few weeks learning more and more skills in order to earn two belts at the next promotion night. By doing this, Evelyn was on pace to earn her Black Belt at the same time as her mom, because now they were the same belt color and would promote together. Evelyn has developed a nurturing and caring demeanor that she shares with her classmates as well as working with the younger Ninja Shark classes. Evelyn is normally tasked with working with the newer students to help them learn the ropes of class. When you take a class for the first time, you are very nervous and do not want to leave your parent's side. Evelyn learned, by taking karate, a nice approach to help these students have fun and learn during their first class. Additionally, Evelyn has enrolled in Action Karate's sparring class and is learning self defense, which is always good for female students. Evelyn worked so hard that during her first Action Karate tournament, where she enrolled in the sparring competition, she earned a 3rd place trophy. Evelyn even earned a 2nd place trophy and a 3rd place trophy in her kata and combination moves during the same tournament. I cannot tell you the level of joy that you could see on Evelyn's face after that tournament and it is all owed to the fantastic instructors at Action Karate, that gave her the tools she needed to compete at the highest level. Now that Evelyn is working towards her Jr. Black Belt which is this December 2019, she is motivated to excel. At the beginning, Evelyn was very upset at the training she needed to endure in order to prepare her for the Black Belt Test. Since Evelyn has been training, she has lost a few needed pounds and has mastered her push-ups that would make an adult jealous. Evelyn has made many new friends and works hard with her brother and her mother at home to master each move. We, as parents, could not be more proud of Evelyn for where she has come over these past 3 years. If you or your child(ren) are looking for an activity to join either for fun or for exercising purposes, please look no further than Action Karate. The workouts you get during a 45-50 minute class are better than you would get by going to the gym. My three kids review of Action Karate Feasterville Averi Hello, my name is Averi and Action Karate improved my life in many ways. One way is that Action Karate taught me how to set goals. Before I would set random goals that I could not complete. Now after training at Action Karate I can set goals every week and complete them. Action Karate has also helped me to get into better shape from the exercises we do in class. I have learned how to do six inches, burpees, push-ups, squats, sits-ups and much more. For an example, when I have soccer practice and we have to hold six inches for 150 seconds I am able to do it. When I started at Action Karate I could only hold it for like 5 seconds. I have also become a lot more confident during my training at Action Karate. I feel like I have become more daring to do things. I remember I used to be too scared to perform in front of a crowd. Now I am on the Jr. Demo team and I have performed a lot of events for people. Action has taught me to always try your best and don't be afraid to try something new. I first started as a white belt, I had to remember these three things; knowledge in the mind, honesty in the heart and strength in the body, I was really happy when I got my white belt. I learned 3 katas to earn my purple belt. I learned 3 self defense moves every belt and a kata each belt. Then when I was a brown belt I learned weapon katas. I learned arnis, sword and traditional staph and now tonfas. I need to know all of these katas and self defense moves for pre-test and Black Belt test so I can earn my junior black belt and that's how karate improved my life. Also, confidence has helped me to focus a lot. Self control has helped me get control of myself and self-discipline has changed my life. We enrolled both of our daughters at Action Karate 7 years ago (when they were 6 years old and almost 4 years old). My older daughter tested and received her senior black belt a year ago (April 25, 2015) and now it is my younger daughter's turn this month (April 30, 2015) to test for her senior black belt. I also tested and received my 2nd degree black belt about 6 months ago (October 31, 2015). Both my husband and I are extremely proud of them for achieving this level of accomplishment, fitness, discipline and dedication. Action Karate had been such a positive experience for them. The families and friends met here at Action are life long. Below is my daughter's story of her black belt journey (from her perspective): I started karate two months before I turned 4 years old (and my sister was 6 years old). I was so young, I had a camouflage color belt! I will be 11 years old (on April 13, 2016) by the time I test for my senior black belt (on April 30, 2016). My parents said they signed both of us up for karate because karate provides discipline and skills that will be helpful to us as we are growing up (especially for girls). It has been a long but fun and rewarding 7 years at Action Karate. About 2 and a half years ago, I tested and received my junior black belt when I was 8 years old. Hard to believe how fast the past 7 years went by (as my mom would say) but at the same time it seems like I have been taking karate forever! During the last 7 years of taking karate, I have encountered both struggles and triumph. For a 10 (almost 11) year old, I have a very busy schedule between going to school and having extracurricular activities and hobbies, both in and outside of school. Besides karate, I participate in gymnastics and I am on a swim team that practices 4 times a week for 1.5 hours each day with a monthly swimming competition. In school, I am an Honor Roll student in 5th grade, in the Gifted program, in Choir and Band (I play the Flute)! It is difficult to balance everything but it has been worth it to learn new self defense techniques and katas because I feel stronger and more confident! Plus, I have made some new friends over the years. I can say with confidence that I am more disciplined and have a better attitude towards life in general since I have been taking karate. I enjoy taking karate because it keeps me safe, it is a great form of exercise, and I am learning how to protect myself, which makes me feel safer and stronger! My journey began when I was a high energetic thirteen year old. After watching a great action movie, I asked my dad if he could show me how to escape different strangleholds an attacker could use. He then told me that I should take a karate class. At first, I was uncertain if I would like it because I really didn't know what to expect, but willing to take on challenges, I asked my mom if she could research a school nearby. Luckily, she found one right around the corner and I enrolled and loved it the second I stepped on the mat. Although I was a little overwhelmed with the new techniques and katas I had to memorize and demonstrate, I made up my mind to practice them every weekend, which tremendously helped me in preparing for my test. My journey wasn't always smooth sailing. I was a shy girl when I started and I would become discouraged when I failed. Also, when I was younger, I quit almost every activity I joined. I learned though from taking karate, to never give up and persevere through the rough times. After that, I made a promise to never be a quitter again. Furthermore, another obstacle I encountered was the fact I could not drive yet. I had to depend on others for transportation, which put a lot on my mom, but having the best mom, she still managed to drive me back and forth when necessary. Another difficulty I faced was starting high school. I knew I had to try to balance homework, other sports I played, family time, and life in general. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't impossible. I learned to prioritize my assignments and still make time for myself. As I continued my black belt journey, the katas and weapons became more complex and arduous, but I kept on practicing and reviewing them and finally put them to memory. Karate not only helped me become more focused and disciplined, but it immensely improved my physical and mental strength. The helpful and supportive instructors encouraged me to push past my limits and the great friends I made along the way also contributed to my accomplishments. I am extremely ecstatic and thankful that I never gave up and I am looking forward to testing for black belt! I started my journey to become a black belt during a mothers day special in 2011. In the beginning I did it because it was something that my children and I could do together. I honestly did not think I would stay at it as long as I have. The wonderful people that I have met along the way (belts higher and lower) have been one of the reason I stayed at it. There were many times that I thought about quitting. I have had some knee issues that I thought would hold me back, but with the strength and support of everyone at Action I was able to push past those issues. I still have trouble here and there, but am always encouraged to keep trying and I make it through. My BBP Amy is my ROCK at Action! She helps make the classes fun when we partner up! There are many others that I would like to thank including Beth who not only pushes me through class when I am feeling weak, but was also my walking partner for a period of time when our schedules aloud us to get in some extra exercise. Mr. Joe & Mr. Maggs have been great with staying late and coming early to help with any Kata's or self defense moves that we need help with! I originally would just sit in the lobby wile my kids took class! I thought it was great for them to not only get the exercise that is needed during those cold winter months when they cannot go outside to play but it has also been great discipline for them. After meeting some of the adults that took class and hearing the great experiences they have I decided to give it a try and I am glad I did! I have lost 20 pounds since starting and still remember when I couldn't even do a single push up! Mr. B helped me by allowing me to do "girl" push-up (as I call them) in the beginning to strengthen my arms! I am not a master, but can now do 20 good push ups in a row! I look forward to coming to class as much as I can! I still get nervous during promotion time, but have lead the Kata's since nearly the beginning and feel so great after doing so! Hello, I would like to share a little of my black belt journey. My older son took karate when he was younger. I took him to all of his classes. So I sat there with all of the other parents for many years watching and watching. Back then I actual had the thought to give it a try, especially every June when Dad's were free. But I thought that I could never do it. I have always struggled with my weight and I knew I was out of shape. So I watched my son earn his Jr. Black belt and then he moved on to other activities in his life. A couple years had passed by and then my younger daughter decided to sign up for karate. She was doing great especially since she's already very athletic. So once again I'm sitting there watching and watching. To be honest, I did enjoy watching all of her classes. But after a couple of months I got an email invitation to try adult class for one month. This time something overcame me and I had the courage to response. Even though I still continue to struggle with weight issues, karate has changed everything about me. Not only have I learned many self defense moves, katas, kicks and punches but karate has taught me how to be a better person in my everyday life. I think and react differently. I'm even calmer in any situation. Action karate has really changed my life. I'm stronger than ever, more confident and I have learned leadership abilities. Living My Childhood Dream When I was about six years old I would watch the English-dubbed Chinese karate movies on Saturday mornings after spending hours watching cartoons. During the movies I would act out some of the karate moves. 43 years later, karate movies are still some of my favorite movies to watch. For the last 12 years I watched my daughter take karate lessons and wanted to join her. I even tried taking a few classes but work prevented me from sticking to a schedule. Over two and a half years ago I decided it was time to commit to taking classes and I officially signed up. Since then I have tried my best to work hard and persevere through my classes. It was a bit of a struggle at first because I was out of shape. I almost passed out one night in the beginning but now I can make it through a full class. I stuck with it and have graduated up to my Red Belt. Taking karate not only helped me get more physically fit, but it also provided me with opportunities to make new friends, help others succeed, challenge myself, build my self confidence, learn better self control and be proud of what I accomplished. Now that I've reached the Black Belt level I'm excited to test with my daughter, who's going for her 3rd Degree Black Belt, and achieve my 1st Degree Black Belt. I told her she couldn't date until she could kick my butt so now I have to keep up to stay ahead of her. At last I am officially fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a martial artist. HI, my name is Matt Mowery. When I was 5 years old I started asking my mom and dad if I could take karate. My older brother, Ray earned his Jr. Black Belt at Action Karate Feasterville when I was a baby. I always wanted to make up katas and kicks. They didn't agree at first. They wanted to make sure I really wanted to do it. After about a year and a half, they decided I was really serious about it. Now I am 9 years old and I've learned so much at Action. I've learned awesome katas, my favorites are the ones with weapons. I've learned self defense techniques, self discipline and self control. I've made a lot of friends since white belt until red/black, some I knew from school and a lot were new. Karate has made me a better athlete in soccer and hockey. I've built up my stamina so I can play longer and I am stronger from the workouts we do. There have been times when I wanted to quit, but my parents and my instructors helped me get through the hard times. I am also a better student in school because of what Mr. B and all of the instructors at Feasterville have taught me. I hope I've made them all proud of me. I started karate when I was (almost) 4 years old along with my older sister, Skylar. Our mommy is very protective of us because we are girls. She always said "we needed to be extra protective of ourselves since we are (pretty and adorable) girls." Skylar received her junior black belt last December 2012. Mommy (Amy) and I are testing together on November 23, 2013. I am going for my junior black belt and mommy is going for her 1st degree black belt. I have to admit, I am glad mommy signed us up. I enjoyed learning how to protect myself, which makes me feel safer and stronger. Every time I go to karate it puts a big smile on my face because I am learning more self defense moves to protect myself. Karate has also taught me how to be smarter and not talk to strangers. Hi, My name is Jamie and I'm 11 yrs old. This is my story about my karate journey. Before I started karate I did gymnastics for about 6 years. It was a lot of fun but because of the hours and traveling, it was getting too hard to keep up with. So I thought about doing karate instead. My older brother did it when he was younger and I always remember it looking like a lot of fun. I will never forget the first kick I ever learned. It was the inside crescent kick. After my first class, I was hooked and I never looked back. If you don't take karate, you really should give it a try because you will learn a lot of cool stuff, like a lot of different kicks and punches, how to defend yourself and you'll even get to spar one on one with someone. I have also met so many new friends, who I wouldn't have met if I never started karate. I'm about to test for my Jr. Black belt and I'm so excited. I started Karate in the Asah Shark class when I was 3 years old. I tested for my Junior Black Belt when I was 8 years old. Now I am 10 years old ready to test for my Senior Black Belt. The things that I like the most about Action Karate is teaching private lessons as well as teaching classes. I like doing these things at Action because they make me feel good when I know I am helping others. I also like how nice the instructors are to me and my family. The things that are really challenging for me is juggling all of my activities and getting to class 2 times a week. Between soccer, basketball, Gymnastics (5 hours a week) and Sr. Demo Practice it is sometimes a struggle to fit two classes in a week but my parents always make sure I do. When my daughter Alisha joined almost four years ago, I had no desire to be a black belt. I enjoyed watching her and encouraging her to do her best. A few months later my older daughter Beth joined, then my husband, then the two younger kids. It wasn't until the next year that I was sorta tricked into joining for the month of May. I knew I wasn't coordinated but the fact that I could do something made me happy. A year before I joined I had gastric bypass surgery and had lost 75 pounds, after joining I have lost 125 pounds and can do so much more than I ever expected. Before my journey I wouldn't have been able to sit on the floor and get up without help, now I do it several times a workout. I have better confidence, focus and more patience than ever before. We enrolled our son at Action Karate Feasterville two years ago. We have had a very positive experience as we've watched our son build confidence and self esteem, learn valuable self defense, and get in excellent shape. The instructors at Action Karate are very supportive and focus heavily on positive reinforcement. Interspersed with lessons in the Martial Arts (the specific discipline is Kenpo) are valuable lessons in leadership, proper nutrition, and the benefits of a positive mindset. I have been taking karate at Action Karate for 3years. I have learned a lot of kicks, punches and katas. But most importantly I have learned self discipline, self control, focus, respect and responsibility. I have become a better person. I am more confident speaking in front of people. I have learned to not become physical in situations but to talk through them. Respect has taught me to treat others the way I want to be treated. When I need help with anything an instructor is always there to help. At each belt the level of intensity got harder but we are taught to never give up and work our way through it. I started at Action Karate shortly after my 2 girls started. I knew I loved it and wanted my black belt early on. But I did have several challenges to overcome. I was out of shaoe, overweight, and deep down thought that there was no way I could actually achieve my goal. But with the help of some special instructors, I was able to overcome some big lulls in motivation and attendance.
