They are a little unprofessional in terms of not doing eftpos transactions and do most things via word of mouth, but for the deals they give you, it doesn't seem to matter nearly as much as you would think. I have an old classic car as well as a Hilux and a new Corolla and when I moved to the area a few years ago I was recommended I go to Ward for my vehicle servicing and repair. Ward does my servicing, mechanical work and WOF's on all my cars and he is such a genuine honest mechanic. He has been in the business for donkeys' years, so he really knows his stuff, and nothing is a problem. He is hands down the most honest, thorough, and trustworthy mechanic I've ever been to, and I know my cars are in safe hands with Ward. His no BS thorough job saves me time and money in the long run, and I can trust everything he says. Having Ward in the same suburb I live in is awesome but even if he was 50Kms away I'd make the journey because I know he will respect and look after my pride and joy and treat it as if he owns it - this alone is a massive weight off my mind when I drop the keys off. The job is always done to an exacting standard, within budget and specified timings. If there ever is anything else required (and there always is on a classic car) Ward calls me before he starts the work with options as well as updated costs and timings. I cannot recommend Glen Eden Auto Services strongly enough, especially if you have a classic car or in fact any car which you want to take somewhere that is honest, will not rip you off and gives you peace of mind with a no-nonsense quality job. They offer $30 WOF services and specialise in vehicle servicing, tyres, upholstery, electrical repairs, rust repairs, brake and clutch repairs, and suspension. Although the premise looks a little run down, don't let that put you off. After servicing your vehicle they give the exterior a spray down, giving it back looking nice and shiny and new. But like going to any mechanic, make sure you call them up and get a quote before booking in. Anytime it went to Continental, they would try to sell thousands of dollars worth of impractical repairs, often exceeding the value of the car. Gilltrap, on the other hand would provide practical advice and could be trusted. I can tell that Active Automotive Services will provide honest, professional and practical service for my Nissan. Extremely overpriced service and poor communication…read more After hearing great things about Scott Baird Automotive from family and friends, I was extremely disappointed with the two car Services I received this year. For the first service (my partners car), I asked that if there were any issues with the car, these would be quoted before they proceeded with remedying them. I was contacted later by Scott who said there were issues, and made it seem like he had already remedied them but did not discuss any pricing or cost of this, so I assumed they were minor. When I arrived to pick up my car, I was charged far more than what was inferred as the 'genuine' parts ordered were purchased directly from the manufacturer. Apparently this brief phone call was confirmation of my agreement to proceed with remedying these significant issues, when it was vague and communicated poorly. I decided to give Scott Baird Automotive a second chance for my car given the good things I had heard about them (big mistake). On this occassion I only received a standard car service (Oil and Filter Change + minor works and ensuring car was up to spec) and was charged $250 labour for 2 hours work, $400 all up. Furthermore, they will only install 'genuine' parts that are ordered directly from the manufacturer (in my case Honda) who charge excessive rates for their parts, so you're better off going straight to your car manufacturer for your service if you are going to pay a premium anyway. Only reason for 2 stars is for the work they carried out was up to a high standard and Scott came across as genuine, but their labour and service costs are extremely overpriced and poor value for money.

I have had all problems associated with my car over the years fixed, without any recurring issues. My car often ends up cleaner than it was after the service. I am consulted before any repairs are made and effort is made to source the best value parts. Loan cars are available with all staff at the business very friendly and keen to help. I have had problems fixed by just turning up and they immediately have helped and solve the issue without cost. They are in a great location of Glen Innes if in the Eastern Suburbs and are close enough also if further south-east.
