We had recently purchased a used Honda CR-V and when it was taken to Honda they said it needed $4900 worth of repairs. We are very suspicious that Honda was going over the top in trying to restore the car to factory new conditions and that was impractical and unreasonable in our opinion. We took the car to Maidstone and they were able to look at it quickly and came back with a few of the same repairs Honda was suggesting. In one case they agree with Honda on a repair and getting the part as genuine Honda part. The remainder of the repairs were either cheaper, or they felt were not sensible to perform at this stage. As a result we saved several thousand dollars compared to Honda's repair suggestions. At the end we forgot to get a windshield wiper replaced on the rear of the vehicle and Maidstone gave it to us and didn't charge. They seemed like reputable and honest mechanics who stand behind their work and will make sensible recommendations. We will be taking all of our vehicles to Maidstone moving forward.

They're a little hard to find, down tiny Eden Street in Newmarket, next to the Carbon Garage. My first (niggling) complaint is that when my car had issues they needed to inform me of, they didn't phone me, they texted me. I didn't hear it, and so my car was sat there for a couple of hours longer than it needed to. It failed the WoF, unfortunately, due to rust and a couple of mechanical things. After getting the rust seen to, we brought it back late Friday afternoon, and it was ready to go Saturday morning. I was very impressed with the turnaround time, as I know they had to order parts to get it done. The cost was maybe a little expensive - as it was my first WoF in NZ, I have nothing to compare it to, but Newmarket tends to be more expensive than other areas in my experience. The WoF itself was $48, the repairs a couple of hundred on top of that. I'll definitely take it back there for future WoFs, because it's within walking distance of my home, and everyone working there that I dealt with was very friendly and helpful, happy to show us the rust, explain the mechanical problems, give us price quotes on what needed to be done and get it done when we needed it.

These guys are always willing to help their customers, and it seems as if they genuinely value them. Not only are they professional and do such a great job on repairing the body of your car, but it's also the little things that they do to ensure that their customers remain loyal. For example, in my experience no other mechanic has ever given my car a complete valet clean when I have taken it in for repairs; but these guys did just that. An hour into the service, Roger called to advise a small fault on the engine was noticed, and that they will only be able to replace the part the next day. A loan car was organized at no extra cost, and my car was ready the next day after work, cleaned and ready to roll another ten thousand kilometers. The whole team at Northcote was easy to work with, and Roger really went out of his way to assist me with my vehicle's service.

Turns out what the failed the car for is not really a problem so I paid the new shop the warrant fees and I got it right there and then. We'll get the reminder note in the mail to say one of our vehicles is due for a service and it is that kind of special attention that keeps us coming back. Their office lady is super friendly too. Recently searching for a first car for the newest driver in our family, Ward pointed us in the right direction and we ended up making an excellent purchase thanks to the insider advice. I have an old classic car as well as a Hilux and a new Corolla and when I moved to the area a few years ago I was recommended I go to Ward for my vehicle servicing and repair. Ward does my servicing, mechanical work and WOF's on all my cars and he is such a genuine honest mechanic. He has been in the business for donkeys' years, so he really knows his stuff, and nothing is a problem. He is hands down the most honest, thorough, and trustworthy mechanic I've ever been to, and I know my cars are in safe hands with Ward. His no BS thorough job saves me time and money in the long run, and I can trust everything he says. Having Ward in the same suburb I live in is awesome but even if he was 50Kms away I'd make the journey because I know he will respect and look after my pride and joy and treat it as if he owns it - this alone is a massive weight off my mind when I drop the keys off. The job is always done to an exacting standard, within budget and specified timings. If there ever is anything else required (and there always is on a classic car) Ward calls me before he starts the work with options as well as updated costs and timings. I cannot recommend Glen Eden Auto Services strongly enough, especially if you have a classic car or in fact any car which you want to take somewhere that is honest, will not rip you off and gives you peace of mind with a no-nonsense quality job.
