Accelerated Artists (formally Savvy Actor) promised me I wouldn't be the same person I was when I went in and boy did they deliver I had been feeling like my acting career had gone into neutral and not sure what to do about it I went to a free Savvy Actor workshop at the hollywood fringe and was curious about this weekend intensive but scared. I decided if you're scared of something to do with your career... it probably means you should do it... SO I did The very first thing you do once you are in the Weekend Intensive class is probably one of the most invaluable learning experiences for you both personally and professionally. You get up in front of the room of fellow actors but strangers and they all write down what they think of you. What impressions they get. What attitude you came in with etc. And you just stand there. You know how important first impressions are right? What if you were giving off an impression you didnt even KNOW about? What if EVERYONE in the room thought that same thing? You'd want to know that right? OR you might just need the reassurance that how you come across is EXACTLY the way you WANT to come across This is just the beginning. We go over finances, headshots, charaters/age ranges, branding, networking (the last two used to send waves of terror down my spine) Basically these wonderful people take you by the hand and show you that you have control over your own career and how people see you... you've had it all along No longer my career in neutral I feel like I've stopped the car, am unloading all the crap, repacking it with useful information and better tools and getting into the driver seat about to hit the accelerator (see what I did there?) I cant stress this enough. If you feel like there is something missing, something you need help with... this is the weekend workshop to do! (and bonus... you go home with a packet FULL of info from the weekend to help remind you of what you learnt and are probably still absorbing... I know I am!) read more

I learned so much about the business and myself, within those two days! These guys really know their stuff. Their branding insight, business practices, and financial planning information are absolutely dead-on, and there's much to apply outside of The Business if you have a day job or a business to run. Jodie is like the Energizer Bunny and keeps her energy and focus throughout a complete weekend of intense training. Christina is hilariously dead-pan and adds the perfect input at the perfect time every time. And when they call it Intense Training, they mean it. They have carefully crafted the pace of the weekend MBA course so that right when you might start slowing down in your own energy, you're up out of your seat and working with a partner or a group having fun and learning, exploring, and doing very engaging activities. As an actor or acting student, often little attention is paid to the business side of the profession. But how do you get into the profession if you are unaware of the business aspect and how you make yourself known in the field? The Savvy Actor with Jodie Bentley and Christina Shipp are all you need to know. The instruction, tools, workbooks and guidance they give you, contain all the information you need to make a name for yourself. Being a great actor is not much good if no one knows who you are or sees your work. The way to reach that point is contained in the information these people teach. I went from a beginner to an actor with two agents repping me by studying with them and using what I was taught. And it works. Yes, you have to study the acting profession as an art and practice what you learn, but what they teach is then how to market your skills and your name so that you gain recognition and get work. Very open and very helpful at all stages and very available, they provided the tools and information for the all-important side of the acting profession of selling yourself and your skills and talents. I've never stopped using the tools and techniques they taught.
