Admission is $20 for a family of up to five, and the shows are designed for kids ages 0 to 8. They're fun, interactive, and super engaging, with the performers involving the children throughout the performance. The Getty Villa is one of the two Getty Museums in Los Angeles County and this location is the…read moreoriginal Getty Museum. The museum started as a small museum gallery in 1954. Later the museum went through new construction with an architectural design inspired by the Villa of the Papyri at Herculaneum and opened to the public in 1974. The Getty Villa moved a portion of its collection to the Getty Center when the center opened in 1997 and the villa focused only on Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art thereafter. The villa underwent a major renovation from 1997 to 2006 and eventually reopened to the public in 2006 as what you see now. The villa was shut down for 6 months to clean up the aftermath of the Palisades Fire in January 2025. [Admission]: Free admission, but visitors are required to purchase tickets online, pick time slots on the website, and show their online tickets upon driving into the villa. [Parking]: Parking is $25 per car or motorcycle and $15 after 3 PM. For evening events, parking is $10 after 6 PM. [What to see - outdoor]: The Outer Peristyle is the main attraction that everyone comes to see with a 220-foot-long reflecting pool. There is also the Herb Garden, the East Garden, and the Inner Peristyle with a small reflecting pool and laurel trees. [What to see - indoor]: The art collection is only two floors and it is all in one building. Greek Art / Etruscan Art are located on the 1st floor and Roman Art is located on the 2nd floor. Some of the highlights include The Lansdowne Hercules (Gallery 108), Victorious Athlete / Youth (Gallery 111), Caeretan Hydria (not currently on display), Mummy Portrait of Isidora (Gallery 210), Sarcophagus with Scenes from the Life of Achilles (Gallery 213), etc. [Guided tour]: The villa offers various free guided tours and the staff recommended that visitors arrive 15 minutes before the tour time. All tours start right across from the gift shop and they are first come first served (capped at 20 people for our tours). The staff gave us one portable Bluetooth audio device per person so everyone was able to hear the guide clearly even from a distance. Our party did the "Exploring the Villa's Architecture & Gardens Tour" at 11:15 AM and the "Art & Site Tour" at 1:30 PM. Unfortunately, I didn't realize there was some overlap between the two tours and our party ended up seeing the Herb Garden twice during our visit. [Cafe]: Can't exactly say I was impressed with the selection. Our party got chickpea hummus & pita for $11.60 and it tasted alright. [Garden Tea Service]: Reservations required - Thursday and Saturday only. Inquire at the information desk. Visitors can book a reservation on OpenTable and the price is $66.95 per person (not including sales tax and an 18% service charge). [Conclusion]: In the end, our party stayed for approximately 5 hours. Overall the Getty Villa is not as good as the Getty Center due to (1) its smaller footprint, (2) its focus only on Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art which I am not as interested in, and (3) too much redundancy in the guided tours. This is a great museum to visit for any first time visitors, but it is hard to see myself revisiting the villa unless there are new exhibits in the future that fit my interests. P.S. - There is a small pamphlet with a self-guided tour highlighting scenes from the Odyssey through various artworks.

Sholom Aleichem and an improv comedy show. I had a great time at the shows and there were meet and greets with the talent afterwards with snacks and wine(at some shows). I'm an actor/photographer and writer myself and appreciate this fine cultural venue keeping live stage productions going while the public is getting so distracted by internet social media. Prices are very reasonable, I usually pay around $25 for a ticket. Highly recommended.

The Playhouse is located in a great area in Santa Monica and there are a lot of eateries and places to walk. The 3rfd St. Promenade is just a block away. Parking is easy in the public parking lot right across the street, it is for a small fee. All of the kid's plays are great and our grandson has not missed one yet. They also do holiday themed plays. The prices are great, this is one of the last places you can take a kid and not spend more than 18$ a ticket and often less. The staff is the nicest. It is not for profit and the entire staff and actors work for free. They also have Birthday parties. The place is small and adorable you will love it.

So, some people who are reviewing the programming or staff are actually reviewing SMC, not BroadStage or vice versa. I have never attended an SMC performance so I can't speak to their programming or staffing, but BroadStage has very interesting programming & very kind staff. Since BroadStage programming is so eclectic, though, some of it just isn't of interest to me. Different strokes....

Choose wisely what you come for. If your intuition tells you this artist was maybe brought in simply on connections and what community they're a part of then listen to your gut. I say all of this because there are so many deserving and talented productions out there that deserve and would love the privilege of being paid to perform here but to see the opportunities squandered on the same old stories and inner circle artists is enough for me to think long and hard before buying tickets to this theatre again.

The Outdoor Classical Theater performances start in September and run through the first week of October. They alternate between Comedy and Tragedy from year to year. I watched 2009's comedy production of Aristophanes' Peace by Culture Clash and it was outstanding! From the actors themselves, to the sound, lighting, props and costumes these OCT performances at the Villa are truly a great show. I think the ticket cost is slightly on the high side ($40 per ticket) but the performances run about 90 minutes so you get your moneys worth. Cushions are put down for seating but I recommend dressing on the warmer side and bringing a blanket as the ocean mist rolls in pretty thick in the evening. The Cafe on site offers boxed meal pre-orders for the shows. If you miss the pre-order cut off not to worry as the Cafe is open for concessions and offer the same menu as well as beer and wine (No Red wine though as it stains the theater seating area and cushions when spilled). Yes I know we are all adults but at the performance last year the lady next to me kicked her wine glass all over on the lady sitting in the row in front of us. The lady was wearing all white. Can you imagine if red wine was served. Eek Gods! So no red wine. It stains and is not fun. This year in 2010 the performance Elektra, is a drama which is a continuation of 2008's Agamemnon. I did not see Agamemnon but was able to catch on pretty quickly to the story line. Tess M. was also kind enough to send me a cheat sheet link so I was able to read up on good ol' Agamemnon before I saw the complete show of Elektra. I would say that the OCT performances at the Villa are definitely worth seeing at least once. Just pick the right poison for you (comedy or tragedy) and sit back and enjoy the show.

The acoustics and lighting seemed OK, but I'm not a huge critic of that kind of stuff, so you probably shouldn't take my word for it.

However, there is a private bar which you get access to if you're a $100 member and a concession stand with snacks and coffee etc. The seating is well laid out and the ushers get you to your seat, even if you arrive late. Nice. The crowd was kinda mature, but I did see some other younger faces, but we all left as united Connolly fans by the end.
