Some wonderful practitioners remain, which makes what happened all the more disappointing. In over three decades as a patient, I never had a significant issue until recently, when I had an interaction with a practitioner that left me feeling genuinely unsafe and deeply unsettled. Had it ended there, I likely would have viewed it as an unfortunate but isolated experience. What shocked me was the response from management. Rather than approaching the situation with curiosity, balance, or a genuine effort to understand what occurred, I felt that my concerns were dismissed and the entire situation was reframed in a way that bore little resemblance to my experience. The Yo San I knew was built on principles of compassion, healing, self-reflection, and open communication. The institution's response to this situation felt inconsistent with those values. Many clinics today can feel rushed and volume-driven. You often feel like the doctor is trying to see as many patients as possible, and each appointment becomes very quick and mechanical. With Dr. Choi, I never felt that way. He spends real time with his patients, listens carefully, asks detailed questions, and genuinely tries to understand what is happening in the body. You can feel that he deeply cares about the person in front of him, not just the appointment. What impressed me most is his combination of integrity, experience, and skill. He has more than 40 years of clinical experience, but he still treats each patient with patience and seriousness. He does not use a one-size-fits-all approach. He uses a Korean Four-Constitution / Sasang constitutional approach, and he also carefully studies the fingerprint patterns of all ten fingers as part of understanding a patient's individual constitution. From what I have researched, this approach is very special because it looks at the whole person, not just one symptom. A person with a "cold" constitution may need a very different treatment approach from someone with a "hot" constitution, and a yin-type body may respond differently from a yang-type body. Dr. Choi understands these differences and adjusts his treatment with great precision. My own experience has been very meaningful. I had numbness around one side of my mouth for about two years. After my first acupuncture treatment with Dr. Choi, I felt about 80% improvement. That result gave me a lot of hope. Since then, I have continued to feel that his treatment is not only based on strong technique, but also on a sincere desire to help the patient get better. I now drive almost two hours each way to see him, nearly four hours round trip. Even with that long drive, I still feel it is worth it, because it is very rare to meet a doctor who has both excellent medical skill and a truly caring heart.
