The first acupuncture session I ever had was with Dr. Ramirez, and he came highly recommended by my boyfriend, whose family has been treated by the doctor over the years. I was lucky enough to have found Dr. Raul Ramirez at Nei Jing Eastern Medicine back in February, 2021. I had a pretty severe case of osteoarthritis in my left knee and my orthopedic doctor had suggested full knee replacement, which I did not want to do. I brought my X-ray to Dr. Ramirez and he could tell right away where the inflammation was concentrated and without a blink started his magic acupuncture treatment with full confidence that he could heal me and keep me from the knife. I would feel somewhat better after each treatment and in the early days I would go 3 times a week, where gradually the inflammation was diminishing, along with his recommendation of herbal supplements. Then I went down to twice a week for treatment for a few weeks, then once a week. I am ecstatic and proud to say I am on his maintenance plan, where I go in bi- weekly. This guy is the real thing. He is very well studied in Chinese medicine and acupuncture. I have been to a lot of acupuncturist , this is the best in the area. I've been going to acupuncturists on and off for 10 years for various problems that include back pain, sleep issues and stomach problems. Oh my goodness, let me tell you something! Dr. Ramirez is an amazing man! I went to him today because I tweaked my neck and was in horrible pain and could barely turn my head. I could say great things about Dr. Ramirez all day. But I think it will be more effective if I let anecdotal evidence speak for me. I had a snowboarding accident a few years back that resulted in excruciating pain going from my neck to my shoulder. It would later turn out that this accident actually caused a condition called Winging Scapula. More on that later. I was in so much pain that I literally went several days without sleep. It just wouldn't go away. Long story short is that I tried to go the Western doctor route, i.e. through my "regular" medical avenues. By the time I had gotten finally approved just to see a someone to get an x-ray (and this would simply get me the okay to have someone else try to treat the ailment), Dr. Ramirez had already gotten rid of 95% of my pain. He's amazing. Now the Winging Scapula. I'll save you what the condition is, but if you look it up, it is claimed to be "untreatable". Only by going in and sewing the scapula down to anchor it, is it possible to function normally according to Western doctors. My First Acupuncture Experience - So I had a blast at the acupuncturist!!! I knew the experience would be good because I "yelped" for a good acupuncturist in my area. First of all, the needles do not hurt. In fact, I didn't even feel them - what I felt was the pressure of the glass/plastic tube that is placed against the skin to position the needle correctly. Also, my new acupuncturist is quite versatile...he used some other techniques: neck traction, cupping and moxibustion. He treated the whiplash and back pain that I experienced from the car accident and I've been satisfied with good results ever since! Dr. Ramirez is a fantastic practitioner. He has a huge knowledge base that spans both eastern and western medicinal techniques, which allows him to pinpoint potential sources of ailments quickly and efficiently. He's very good about giving you more than one option when it comes to treatment, and I'm almost never not able to get in to see him for at least one treatment per week. I practice Sanda kickboxing/Sanshou in a class that was recommended to me by Dr. Ramirez. I'm training for some upcoming tournaments and I know what it is to be sidelined with sports injuries and painful ailments. Dr. Ramirez almost always has me up and around again within a few short visits, which saves me both money and time. As a Sanshou/ Shuai Jiao/Sanda competitor himself he knows the level of physical exertion that goes into my training, and he's therefore able to diagnose the problem and the proper response to it. Most people don't know that Dr. Ramirez possesses a PhD in acupuncture and eastern medicine. While most of the graduates of the acupuncture schools out here only posses bachelors degrees, his education far exceeds the normal standard for those in his profession. I have always been skeptical about Eastern Medicine and acupuncture... until now. :) My husband has been struggling with back issues for years. He has a herniated disk and had back surgery a few years back. It's been a roller coaster recovery and he had been going to physical therapy for a few months. I now see that this was due to that doctor and not the needles. I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked into Dr. Ramirez' office. Would the yelp reviews prove accurate?!? Accurate indeed. Dr. Ramirez is amazing! I have been to many acupuncturists before, and have always known that acupuncture works wonders. I was looking for someone in the Culver City vicinity for my boyfriend who has really severe indigestion problems. After one visit, his stomach pain was lowered and he's been able to eat a lot better. Not only does Dr. Ramirez fix the problem.. He addresses the root of the problem and he has an answer for everything! I started going to the Dr. due to years of neck, shoulder, and back pain. I must admit I was a bit leery of acupuncture. I tend to over think things and try to figure out how things work before trying them. I couldn't imagine how being stuck with needles could not be painful and how it could help. Well, Dr. Ramirez showed me both. I've seen him several times for several reasons such as recovery from rotator cuff, prostate and hip replacement surgeries. He has always taken time to ensure I was calm and to determine the specific areas where I was having difficulty. It is amazing how he can determine just where I have the most pain. The last time I had written a review of Dr. Ramirez, was way back in 2011! He treated me for depression, stress and jaw pain. At least back then I thought it was "just" jaw pain. Now, 6 years later, I have learned that the jaw pain is actually Trigeminal Neuralgia, often called the most painful condition a human can endure. It's also been known as the "Suicide Disease". They are not kidding. So, in the last 6 years, the condition seemed to be staying quietly in remission until about 2 and a half weeks ago. Suddenly, the electric, fiery, stabbing pains started all over again. I couldn't speak, eat, drink, turn my head to the right, none of it as it would just bring on another wave of pain. The waves could be anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes long, but they were always a 10 on the pain scale. Sleeping was a nightmare, as the attack could happen while sleeping, if I happened to brush against my right cheek or something. Back to Dr. R for me! as soon as the first appointment, I could feel an improvement. The attacks were shorter and about a 5 on the pain scale. After the second appointment (and with the herbal patches and anti-inflammation caplets, I was talking and sleeping through the night. After the third, I had zero attacks that were above a 2 on the pain scale and they were few and far between. I no longer have to slurp soup through a straw for the one meal I could handle a day for the previous 2 and a half weeks! I actually ate real food last night for dinner (lo mein) and just had a pasta lunch! No soup! Hallelujah! I've never had acupuncture done, and I was a bit hesitant, but Dr. Ramirez made any hesitation go away. I had been going to a chiropractor every week for three months and had absolutely no results other than a lighter wallet. After experiencing much pain on my sprained shoulder for over a month and having been to two orthopedic surgeons, this is the first real pain relief I experienced. I felt that Dr Ramirez spent way too much time saying "What I can do for you" than actually doing it. The acupuncture lasted less than 10mins. It didn't work for me at all. It was a complete waste of money/time for a drive to somewhere for 10mins especially with the LA traffic. He was suppose to send me an email with food tips and he did not. I had to call him back, which I really didn't want to do because I was not happy. I wouldn't be surprised if the other reviews were from personal friends. After many years of using ointments, muscle relaxers, paying for massages and chiropractic adjustments..... due to my constant and permanent lower back pain struggles.................. I finally tried acupuncture. At the beginning I was skeptical, but after meeting Dr. Raul Ramirez, receiving treatment from him I can assure you that I was blessed with his needles and his treatment. Dr. Ramirez explained to me that acupuncture is extremely effective in relieving chronic pain such as mine. I had persistent lower back pain, several weeks before meeting him, It was at its worst, leading to near-sleepless nights, even the doses of Advil and pain relievers were not helping. Dr. Raul Ramirez, with a single acupuncture treatment allowed me to sleep well that night for the first time since the pain had worsened. His needles somehow, it seemed to me, allowed the lower back and hip muscles to relax. At any rate, the treatment led to a lessening of pain from that day on until disappearing. I highly recommend Dr. Ramirez acupuncture treatment. I also would like to comment that the Clinical Journal of Pain has stated in its 2001 publication that the use of acupuncture to treat the lower back pain has increased dramatically in the past few decades, based in a large extent to placebo-controlled studies that have validated it as a reliable method of pain relief. I usually don't write reviews for people or doctors but in this case I felt compelled. I wanted to write to set the record straight. I don't know what the hell "Natalie C." is talking about in her review as Dr. Ramirez is one of the most professional and knowledgeable doctor's I ever had the pleasure of being treated by. He's treated me for various ailments which I successfully can say have been cured but most recently he's been treating me for a car accident where I found out I have a bulging disc in my lower back. Everywhere that I went they told me that this is a long term issue that I will always have to deal with. That is everyone save for Dr. Ramirez. He assured me that he's treated these kinds of pains before and I can honestly say, since seeing him I feel a lot better and I feel confident now that I won't have to deal with this very much longer. I know other acupuncture places promise a lot and deliver very little but this certainly is not the case here. Dr. Ramirez is real and very thorough. Every appointment has been at least an hour sometimes more and he doesn't even charge the extra for it! He uses a technique that is rarely used anymore because it has been lost with years of bastardization to the art, medicine, and purpose of acu. It's a different experience as he pulls in ancient methodology. Don't be fooled by his casual demeanor and his age, he knows what he is doing and bothers to even check his work. NO OTHER acupuncturist bothers to spend the time to do that. I've been seeing Dr. R for almost 2 years and I won't spend my money anywhere else.
