I've been a patient of Dr. Eldhamy's for about 2 years now. I left my previous psychiatrist because his front desk/office staff was horrendous but Lorena, Melodie and all the other ladies working for Dr. E make scheduling and payment a breeze. They're always efficient and extremely helpful. Some other reviews criticize Dr. Eldhamy for changing their medications when they become his patient and I must say that he IS a doctor who believes in using as few medications as possible, but he always knows what he is doing and if you just ask, he will give you his reasoning. He changed both my medications when I began seeing him and while I was skeptical, this new plan works much better for me. Through Dr. Eldhamy's practice, Laguna Behavioral, i was able to find a team of other doctors and specialist to fit all my needs- and they're all in one office. So greatful I found them! read more

I have aired a month for my first session and during this session the therapist kept referring to the point she didn't take people who met a certain criteria (not sharing because it's a personal issue) I told her THREE TIMES I did not meet that criteria, but after the third time she said she couldn't take me as a client but could finish the session. No thanks- you clearly can't listen to me and I have no interest. I then called the receptionist to see if another therapist could be found and she said there is nobody else who accepts my insurance. I've been seeing doctor Eldahmy for a few months, now. I had never been to a psychiatrist before going to see him. I had been noticing some odd feelings that I hadn't felt before (at least, not as often or strongly). Dibilitating feelings of depression and anxiety. Dr Eldahmy listened attentively. He was compassionate and understanding. In short, he made me feel at ease. He's a very friendly and likable guy. He slowly and carefully placed me on medicine; increasing the dosage incrementally with each visit. Lo and behold, I feel much better! My wife agrees, and that's the true test of his skills. I told the doc this already, but it's true: I've seen all kinds of doctors for different things in my life (dermatologists, podiatrists, back specialists, general practitioners, etc.) Rarely do I go to the doctor and feel as though they've truly helped me. My psych retired without letting me know, so I've been having to doctor shop. I desperately wanted help and a better relationship with my new psych than I had had with my previous one. Dr. E looked promising based on Yelp reviews, and I was hopeful. Then I was crushed. Dr. E called me prior to scheduling to let me know that he would not be prescribing the 2mg of klonopin a day I've been taking for 9 months because "it was too much" -- but he hadn't even talked to me. I briefly told him that my anxiety and depression had been worse because my mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer, a close friend recently killed herself, and I just broke my foot over the weekend. He literally told me he couldn't help me and to "find someone else." I told him I've been desperately looking for a reputable psychiatrist in the area that could help me and that I was hoping it would be him. I can't imagine REFUSING a patient under extreme distress. I have been a patient of Dr. E's for many years now and he is the cream of the crop. He is kind, caring and genuinely invested in your health. I appreciate his holistic approach to my care; rather than bumping up a prescription strength, he'd help me explore other avenues that might be affecting my well-being. If it's a lack of sleep, we'd explore why. If it's weight gain, again why and what can I do on my own. What I appreciate most about Dr. E is that I have NEVER been overmedicated under his care. He is conservative about bumping up prescriptions and carefully monitors your reaction to a drug. That's how I came to be his patient. I was under the care of another doctor who was swift with the pen and unfortunately, not as diligent as Dr. E. I thank GOD every day that I have crossed paths with this man. You can rest assured that you or your loved one will be in good hands with Dr. E. This man has many decades of experience under his belt. He is down-to-earth and approachable. He will work with you to help provide you with the best care possible. Other pros of seeing Dr. E: friendly staff, scheduling is a breeze, accommodating hours (they even have Saturday appointments), you get multiple appointment reminders so you don't forget (a SUPER PLUS for me), he's generally on-time with appointments / minimal wait times, calming music in the lounge, comfortable seating, his office has the most comfortable couch. Con: Every now and then you'll get a new staff member that's not so knowledgeable, but they're good about finding the answer and getting back to me. I filed a GRIEVANCE against Dr. Eldahmy for refusing to uphold his Hippocratic Oath--and Anthem decided in my favor, adjusting the Explanation of Benefits to reflect a 0 (zero) co-pay. However, after SEVERAL calls to Dr. Eldahmy's office, trying to get a $37.13 credit for the co-pay on my Visa card, his office staff refused to issue the credit OR have a billing rep call me back. Dr. Eldahmy is very kind and sensitive. He also gives good and healthy advice even if it's hard to hear, so you know he's realistic about your situation and will give you what you need to help yourself improve. My first visit I walked in feeling hopeless, not sure if he could help because I knew how volatile my mood had been and I was feeling pessimistic. Dr. Eldahmy asked me to give him a try because he wanted to help me. He also asked me to be patient; working towards health is a process. He recommended several things I should do to improve my mental health, and again, to be patient with the fact that there would he ups and downs. I am so happy I found this doctor. He is super professional and caring. He helped me get out of my depression, something my prior doctor couldn't. Since we were only seeking a change in prescriptions from a medicine that caused a bad reaction and was prescribed at my daughters college I figured it was okay to accept the immediate opening with this man. Wow was I wrong. We tried to get by his look and demeanor which were both quite textbook psycho in itself. Everything you have seen in the movies on scary Drs. and every reason you never wanted to go to a psychiatrist he embodies. After a useless hour with him he wanted more appointments and more testing and what a surprise nothing useful came from the appointment other than him making $200 in insurance billing. I brought a relative to see Dr. Eldahmy about three years ago. I was specifically looking for an Arabic speaking psychiatrist in Orange County, and I have to say that he is a world class psychiatrist. Dr. Eldahmy is absolutely a pro at what he does. Best of all he does not rush into changing diagnosis and medications as was my relative's experience with other doctors. Instead he takes his time to understand the patient and what they're going through. He was also nice to provide samples of the medication until insurance kicked in (worth more than $1000 value!!!) My relative has seen great improvement and continues to visit him regularly. His staff is very helpful and accommodating, and the office atmosphere is quite and relaxing. There are also many other specialists and therapists at his office that can be seen based on the patient's need which is convenient. My daughter was released from recovery program, recommended to see this doctor. She called for insurance purposes, was told they took it, she scheduled. They said they were not a preferred provider, which they were. We contacted insurance to let them know they were. They cancelled her appointment. Just not a good idea for a young girl running out of her medication. Once they found out they were a preferred provider, they then said they were not taking new patients, even though she had just had an appointment as a new patient the previous day. read more

I have been visiting Dr. Eldahmy for about 6 months now and I have not been disappointed. He is supportive and makes great suggestions for lifestyle changes in terms of health, especially via diet and exercise, which have a great effect on mental health. It's a struggle sometimes to get out of a rut but he's very encouraging at every visit and takes into account all aspects that will affect my mental health, not only the medication. I also appreciate that he recommends natural remedies, such as melatonin for sleep, before going straight to the prescription. He is mindful to keep medications to a minimum if at all possible.
