It was my father in laws birthday and he chose this restaurant, we actually chose this restaurant…read morethe previous year but there are two main Chinese restaurants in the area, we got the wrong one and booked for there instead.. I'm so glad we decided to return and try this one out. It's quite a big place and can been seen from the roundabout.. of course we drove straight past it though because you come off the roundabout and the turning in is literally the first immediate right. When we go anywhere new we normally try the set menu to get a good idea of the food in the place and then if it's good we come back and try different dishes the next time.. also we tend to gauge a good Chinese restaurant on the hot and sour soup.. this was a good one. We had a mixed platter for the second course (ribs, prawn toast, spring roll and a kinda curry samosa) they all tasted wonderful. Then for the main course we got steak in a fruit sauce, beef in chilli sauce and king prawn massaman curry.. which again was great.. they are big portion sizes too so we didn't get chance to sample a desert. The service was excellent too.. we got a young woman as our waitress and she was delightful.. she engaged with us, was funny and attentive to our needs.. also we weren't rushed in anyway either.. they were quite happy for us to chat away at our hearts content even though it was getting close to their closing time. Suffice to say we left a tip and me and the other half already have plans to return for our date night.. even though it's a good half hour drive from our house.

Within moments were were told we were lucky enough to be on time for the early bird menu, but that we were still welcome to order from the main menu, and our drinks orders were taken. The restaurant itself isn't huge but it's comfortable with the kind of décor you'd expect from your typical tradition Thai restaurant in the UK. Although it was early in the evening and midweek the restaurant was busy and several take away orders were carried away while we were there - always a good sign. Most of us ordered from the early bird menu (I did mostly because the shear list of options on the main menu was a little overwhelming). Probably the best choice of starter was the fried squid - no skinny calamari rings here, it's huge chunks in a rich batter. The other options were similarly impressive with pork parcels and chicken skewers featuring among the other favourites. The mains were good too. I ordered Pad Nam Man Hoi, a chicken dish with mushrooms, peppers and brocolli, all very fresh and delicious. I was slightly jealous of the Plad Shu Shee, though, a steamed fish dish that came with an entire fillet of fresh white fish. I was impressed by the options available for the vegetarians among our group and I wouldn't worry about taking friends here, almost no matter what their dietary requirements were. The early bird menu wasn't at all restrictive for me and for the price I would definitely come back to try more of it.

My Dad, being the fab bloke that he is, drove me home from my Christmas jaunt in the homelands of Gloucestershire, and as such deserved a decent feed. I'd already decided to treat him, but the question was - where to go? Since we didn't wish to trek into town, we opted to head over to Sukhothai after a few at Arcadia. And it's safe to say this was an excellent choice. You get the royal treatment in all of their venues, with beautifully dressed and attentive staff, ready to welcome you in. We were seated and treated to the Christmas menu, which was too tempting not to try. We went for the 'Snowflake' (I think, that or the Santa) which meant sharing three starters, three mains, and a dessert each for £50. Not bad at all. The starters were delicious, with the prawns being beautifully arranged like little birds, and the chicken satay was to die for. I'm not sure what the creamy sauce is that was slathered on them, but it was beautiful! To follow came one of the most delicious coconut and steak curries I've had the pleasure of eating - the steak melted in your mouth, and the flavour of the dish was exquisite. The duck dish was just as lovely, but much spicier, and the chicken (deep fried and breadcrumbed) was equally well made. Basically, all of it was incredible. The range showed a good number of flavours, and it all came in good time - in fact, they checked to see how soon we'd like them to come. I'd no room for the dessert, but they even popped it in a box for us to take home. The staff were all wonderful, and the whole experience was a real treat. We shall be back for certain!

Many people regard this place as the finest Thai joint in Leeds, and it's not hard to see why. The interior is classy but retains that great Thai authenticity through dark carvings and subtle decorations, which lends the restaurant a pleasant, intimate atmosphere. Despite the flawlessness of the décor, environment and service, it is the food that must take the real plaudits. I had the chicken noodle soup (£4) followed by a red curry (£8) and both were insanely flavourful, and the fact that you can wash it all down with genuine Thai beers such as Chang just ices the already impressive cake.

What a phantasmagorical kaleidoscope-scape, with movie posters and dangling lights and menu pictures in the windows and stacks of colorful crates of beverages and the CASH ONLY signs at the counter with the mommy cooking conflagration going on behind. And the menu! I first stopped at 'The Thai Guy' and looked at the menu - - but it seemed so - - straightforward. But the Mommy Thai menu was like a hoodoo guru rockabilly fantasy - - all the entrees sound droolworthy, but the menu also has this section entitled "Foodie's Menu." I got the Yum Woon Sen, which is glassy noodles with minced pork, onion, chilli garlic lime and celery plus sundry herbs - - it was FUN. This is one of the most delightfully FUN foods I have had since I don't know when - - tangy and spicy and oodles of spinning noodles with the minced pork falling off the hill left and right - - totally vivid hot&tangy dis-orientingly unpredictably satisfying this dish - - and also got the spare rib appetizer, which was FUN - - it wasn't fall-off-the-bone spare ribs but more gnawing, chewing spare ribs in a tangy sweet bbq sauce - - super hot and hard to hold (the one that popped out of the fingers and fell to the floor I picked up and wiped off and went back to gnawing). MAN what a delight Mommy is. This place is a quasi-understated, psychedelic, funky, home-cooked, taste-o-rific blast of an eatery. GREAT prices, too. [P.S. - - I notice in reviews on another website that people who normally love the food here write scathing reviews when they get carry-out from here. There is a simple lesson to be learned from that: if you want an enjoyable meal, don't ask for it put in a box and driven around town on a motorbike.]

It's quite an area for many things and I'm feeling the need for some Thai thanking you muchly. Sala is easy to get to if you know you are looking for it on Shaw Lane, just off the Otley Road and it's all about the food for me. This is a good job considering it is a restaurant. It's a good menu with plenty on offer. The hot and sour soup has the desired kick and the satay vegetables have a lovely sauce which is rich and goes down a treat. As for the mains, you can curry it up or stick to a stir fry. I had a pleasant vegetable stir fry though I have had better but I've also had worse. Good service and a fine night was had by all.
