For a start it's a nice building and is done out well. The reason I like it though is because it's got quite a bit to offer. They are really doing their bit for the local and underground music scene and still have live gigs on most weekends. That has to be commended so I am. You'll get everything from blues to folk. Worth a punt even if the genre isn't essentially your thing. Next up the beer is good. Oh yes, we're talking good casks and local too. Fancy a sip from a Leeds, Skipton, Sheffield, York, Ossett or Saltaire brewer? Then no problemo, my amigo. You'll also find Tetley's and John Smiths too. Aint half bad lad. As for the grub, it's proper pub food here. We're talking roasts, burgers and lighter bites at lunch too. Never going to win prizes for originality but you've gotta love some pub food as it should be at times. Don't be fooled, this is a pub. It's not a bar but we like it for it.

At some point or other you can do all of these here and you'll always have the option of some great ales. Black Sheep is one of the regular ales which I rarely see past but there are normally 3 guest ales too. It can be very busy in the Vault when there's a game on but the bar is usually well staffed. The food is good, very traditional but good and there's plenty of room to sit down if you're eating.

Inside a quaint yet rustic little building you will find a very similar set up to that of Arcadia: a huge selection of British ales, European beers (such as the majestic Erdinger) and a global selection of wines. As with Arcadia, you may feel that the prices are a little bit steep, but take a moment to steady yourself and remember that you are drinking real quality alcohol and supporting dying British breweries as you do it. The atmosphere is one of quiet relaxation, as the more adult selection of alcohol tends to draw in the over 30s more than the under 30s. I have never tried the food here so cannot comment, but I would recommend stopping in for at least one drink (make it an Erdinger). Even if you don't like it, at least you can tell your friends that you went for a drink in a tavern - how many people can say that nowadays?

The Town Street Tavern is dressed to impress from the outside. It is housed in a period building and it looks the business. Appearances can be deceptive so I was still holding back on my judgment. Inside it's more of the same, lovely. They are a bar and a brassiere and manage to combine style with a cozy atmosphere. So far, so good. So fill my gapping stomach with some food please. Maybe I was a little more polite than that but I went for a big bad boy of a burger with excellent home made chips and coleslaw. No grumbles from me or my stomach. This is a very pleasant pub experience and even better than that it's not far from the train station so you can stagger home safely too.

Because of its age, it has a definite air of real, authentic tradition. The building itself is a tiny terraced cottage with a quaint little white paint-job that has been in place for as long as I can remember. When you enter, you almost have to stoop at the low wooden ceilings - but rather than making you feel trapped, this aspect gives it that real "Ye Olde English Pub" feeling. It serves a variety of traditional British ales at the sort of low prices that attract the retired clientèle. Before the smoking ban came in, I saw a guy in here who must have been approaching ninety, tugging away at a pipe and stroking his handlebar moustache. Proof, if it was needed, that you are unlikely to find a more traditional or English pub in the whole of North Leeds.

The oak beams and low ceilings allows this place to ooze with smugness over its status as the oldest pub is Horsforth (just mind your heads folks!) Its cosiness may make you want to stay in there all day and all night, but just watch yourself as you get enveloped by its great strong historical arms, and remember your livers need a bit of love. If you fancy a tipple or three, they serve a great range of ales, as well as lager and basically just about anything you'd want, although I think ordering an apple martini could get you a couple of odd looks!

Simple as that. The building is out of this world. It's a grand affair and dates back to the mid to late nineteenth century. You'll be impressed as soon as you see it from the outside. That's always a good start. Once you're in, it doesn't disappoint. I'm in love with the huge roaring real fire and could quite happily stay there for hours on end. The service is fantastic too and it's a great atmosphere in a beautiful building. As for the food, well it's good old decent stuff and the price is more than reasonable. I wouldn't say it's out of this world, unlike the location, but that's mainly because it belongs to a chain. You've got real ales to sink into as well and a fab wine list. You know I love my wine and this doesn't disappoint. All in all this is one pub that you really must get to. Is that clear enough for you. Brilliant.
