The Adirondack Visitor's Interpretive Center, otherwise known as the VIC is managed by the State University of New York College of Environmental Science & Forestry. It contains a really great nature center with information on the history of the area, lots of info on native animals and really cool things for kids to do. There's also a variety of trails through the woods, one that's wheelchair accessible. There's also Rich Lake which is a beautiful lake to go paddling on (bring your own boat). The center almost closed when it was being run by New York State in their ongoing budget crisis but ESF stepped in to keep it open. They used to have snowshoeing in the winter and you could borrow snowshoes from then but I don't know if the program still exists. read more
