First off, the boat was supposed to leave for San Pedro Island at 3pm. We arrived plenty early to…read moreensure we were on time. The sign on the door says that the boat leaves promptly and will not wait for latecomers. Apparently, that is not true. We waited in the sun until about 3:45pm to board, and there's no waiting area, just a pier and a boat. The process for customs and immigration is not explained, and both have their own station on the pier. We very nearly left without our exit stamp (not sure if this would have been a big deal or not) and many travelers were forced to pay an exit fee with the immigration officials. There's also a $75MX port fee that isn't well advertised. The seats on the boat were not very comfortable and it can get quite hot inside. Windows are small and don't give a really good view. When we arrived to Belize, exiting the boat was easy as was going through customs and immigration. Get into line quickly though, because there was only one official for all of us on the boat. Overall, it is the only game in town, so if you want to go from Chetumal to San Pedro or Caye Caulker in Belize, this is your only option. If there was another option, I would probably recommend it.
