I liked that when he came to give me a quote he took a photo of the tree and highlighted on the photo where he would be trimming and how he'd go about it. This was much clearer and easier to understand than some other folks who gave me quotes and just gestured toward the tree. He explained his approach and why he suggested it and I felt very confident that he was knowledgeable and experienced. He also took great care not to squash a bunch of plants I had just planted under the large branch he had to cut off. He lowered it down carefully. I was very impressed that he did this without me having to ask. His quote was reasonable too. And he gave me a recommendation for another company to fertilize my trees. Absolutely, positively, DO NOT HIRE. Brian came out, did the…read moremeasurements, gave me a quote that I agreed on and told me they would get started on Friday, Saturday at the latest. I didn't hear or see anything from him the entire week and on the following Friday I had decided that if he wasn't there on Saturday morning I was going to go with someone else. Unfortunately, they showed up on Friday around 4:00 in the afternoon and started working on the bamboo. Bamboo removal is a tough job, requiring a lot of cutting and hauling before you can even feed it into the chipper but it seemed like they were making quick progress. I have/had a pretty nice yard and the grass was coming in well with the spring rain but there is a large section in the back of the yard that is mostly dirt and weeds. I was very surprised that the bamboo that they did not have time to chip up that day was just left in the middle of the yard but figured they would get to it first thing the following day. Most of it sat there for over a week, the grass there is now brown but hopefully recoverable. What's worse is that my neighbor told me he was actually bringing in wood/trash from other jobs and chipping it on my property, while the stuff they cut down in my yard was just sitting there killing the grass. He also sent me a revised quote, almost 10% higher than what we agreed upon, claiming it was due to increased material costs. I know things are quickly getting more expensive right now and I was in a hurry to get this started as I was getting a dog, so I very unwisely let it slide. Brian also asked for almost 90% of the total amount upfront saying that he needed the money for materials to get started. I told him I would give him what he needed for materials, plus 10% of the estimated labor, and that I wanted an invoice for the materials. When I got home the next day, I saw the materials had been delivered but for whatever reason had been stacked in multiple places in grass that was virtually perfect. Again, there is no shortage of dead space, or driveway, where this could have been placed but as he had said the job would only take about a week I let it go. On Sunday, two days after they started, they cut through my internet line while digging the post holes. I was kind of surprised that there hadn't been any sort of check for this, but the line is an odd placement and I could see how that could happen. I am a contractor working from home, and basically lost two days of work. The gate was the last thing to go in and it was basically thrown together and I need to have it redone. It's completely off center, so when I drive in the right side is about two inches off my side view mirror. They also drilled the holes for the hinges straight through the fence board, with nothing behind it, so the screws are sticking straight through. On the hinge side, the screw is already coming out less than three days later. I contacted him about it and he said he'd be out the next day to fix it. This was a week ago and I haven't heard or seen from him since. When the gate was 'completed', he said they were done and I looked around the yard and still saw errant bamboo that hadn't been cut down, spaces underneath the fence in areas, plenty of leftover bamboo and branches that needed to be raked up, basically things I would think would have been included. There was no final walk through and he didn't even ask if I was happy with it. At this point I was so frustrated, I just wanted him and his equipment off of my property. I had to spend about four hours personally cleaning up after them. I got completely taken by this guy. Granted, I should have been paying closer attention. I should have demanded an itemized invoice for materials and paid attention to how many hours a day there were there, but I'm also working and never expected this job to be as slow and shoddy as it was. My neighbors were actually joking with me after the fact that there were days they saw the crew smoking cigarettes and on their phones more than they were working. During this entire process he had kind of an attitude when I would ask him for updates and during the very few hours he was actually here he was clearly rushing things. If it had taken ten days and was absolutely perfect, it would be a lot easier to overlook some of this stuff, but in addition to a disappointing final result I've spent hours of my own time across multiple weekends cleaning up after them and this was stuff that would have taken two guys with their equipment almost nothing. I know people that have had much larger fences put in and it never took more than four or five days, and that's considering a day to let the cement for the posts settle.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience with Tree Masters -- and I was not even their…read morecustomer. Tree Masters was hired to perform tree work at the property behind my home. Their crew entered my fenced backyard without my permission. My 80-year-old mother happened to be at my home and was apparently told what they were doing, but she is not the homeowner and I was never contacted or asked for permission to access my property. When I returned home, I found that my fence had been taken apart and was not properly secured afterward, with a panel missing. At least two of my outdoor lanterns were broken and piled off to the side, my hammock had been tossed aside, landscaping material I had intentionally placed for weed suppression had been removed, and hydrangeas I had planted had been trampled and were no longer apparent. I contacted Tree Masters and arranged to meet with them at my home to discuss the damage and give them an opportunity to make things right. They arrived approximately 45 minutes late to the scheduled meeting. What happened next was particularly concerning. During the meeting, Spencer introduced Chris to me as the homeowner of the property where Tree Masters had been working. I subsequently confirmed that Chris is **not** the homeowner. I went into the meeting hoping for a straightforward conversation: acknowledge what happened, repair the fence, address the damaged items and landscaping, and move forward as neighbors and professionals. Instead, I left the meeting with even greater concerns about how the situation was handled. Accidents can happen during tree work. What I find unacceptable is entering someone's fenced property without the homeowner's permission, leaving that property damaged and disturbed, and then handling the resulting concerns in this manner. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend Tree Masters. If their work on your property may require access to a neighbor's yard, I strongly suggest making sure that permission is obtained directly from that property owner beforehand.

This was understandable and we agreed. He and his coworker came out on 9/10 and did most of the work. My husband paid in cash as requested and Dan agreed to come back out on 9/13 to help move all of the debris to the curb for trash pick up. When I looked at the trees, I noted there were several large branches still within reach of hitting the power lines, which was the reason we wanted the trees trimmed in the first place. My husband called Dan and said we needed the rest of the branches finished. Dan said he'd finish them when he came back on 9/13. It's now 9/18 and Dan did not come back, nor has he returned any of our texts or voice mails. Now we will have to pay someone to finish the job, and my husband has spent hours chopping up the debris and hauling it to the curb for pick up on trash day. I had a bad feeling when Dan wanted to be paid in cash instead of check (what business doesn't accept checks?), but I thought sometimes people have circumstances and I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately it seems he doesn't keep his word. I gave two stars because the work he did do was good.
