He smiled and told me they'd be mulching and laying grass seed. I said thank you and stepped back inside. An hour later heavy equipment began digging trenches in the space outside my door. Mulch may go down in that area at some point, but today it was a construction project. Why lie about that? It's none of my business what someone chooses to do on their property or who they get to do it. But it's been my experience in this world that a man who will lie to one person will lie to other people. Especially when he knows that lie will be evident very shortly. That's a man who just doesn't care. That's not the kind of man I want working on my property. I don't have a choice about him working on the property next door. Mr Sweet was entirely unconcerned when I asked him why he hadn't been honest this morning, laughing it off as a joke. How a man acts in a minute says a lot about how man will act in the broader world. An honest man will always be honest; a dishonest man will lie to you too. Be careful who you pick to work for you.

John (the owner) sent his guys over for simple tasks - trimming hedges, pruning ornamental trees and replacing two large evergreen bushes with new small ones. When they were done, the hedges looked like they belonged in a fun house, the trees were scalped down to nothing and both of the new bushes were dead. When I contacted John to replace the dead bushes (they gave us a guarantee / warranty for a year on them and it had only been 6-7 months) he made every excuse he could think of (bad soil, no water, etc. even though the previous bushes in the same spots were fine) then told me to "take to social media". So here I am.... Plenty of better options in the area to choose from - do not make the mistake we did.
