The new staff are dreadful, and are very unhygienic. They handle the fish with their BARE hands, which are the same hands that they sneeze and cough into. There was only one good employee, but then they left last year so the shop has gotten even worse since she left. The food is always really greasy and I can never finish my portion due to all the grease which would never be the case at the North Berwick Fry or Adriano's. What annoys me the most is that there is usually a line of about 15 for takeout but the restaurant is only half full but still gets priority. Did I mention that it is the same staff serving in the restaurant who are manning the takeaway? This is not my first choice for takeout in Dunbar and I shall now only use it if Adriano's is closed.

The interior doesn't look much. But then again, how good is the inside of a chippy supposed to look? The portions are a good size, but if you're like me an extra chips will do down well (and still be dead cheap). Avoid going at 6pm on Sundays as the queue is halfway down the street.

If you wander 30 or so feet down to the harbour you'll see where they get the catch every day. This place looks as if it hasn't changed in about 70 years! Absolutely no frills. This is a chippy so no prawn cocktail or scampi, just fantastic fish and chips. Queues outside prove the popularity - prepare to wait, especially on a Saturday night. We drive through from the Glasgow area, (2 hour drive) get a fish supper and sit on the shore walls looking out to sea in the most picturesque surroundings (and we don't have to dodge the seagulls).

The Lemon & Herb Baked Fish was so flavorful and juicy. I tried a Deep Fried Mars Bar for the first time and loved it (I don't know what it reminds me of, but it's crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and hot enough to burn the top of your mouth). The star was definitely the Breaded Haddock. I've had fish and chips around the UK for much cheaper, but at a slightly higher price point you get a perfectly crispy piece of fish with double-fried chips. It's really more about the experience of being in a posh fish shop. It's packed with tourists, so you'll be handed a map of the city at the end -- which I found to be pretty funny given I was living in Edinburgh at the time and came with another local. But it's charming and certainly worth a visit.

Thinking about it now, I'm getting hungry again. Every time I have a pub burger, the side salad always lets it down, every time, it's like the bars expect people not to eat it, but not this bar. The salad was crisp and fresh, served up with a deliciously sweet vinaigrette that was perfect for dipping a wee bit of the roll in. The spirit measures were 35ml and the guest ales on offer covered breweries such as Innis & Gunn and The Inveralmond Brewery (who do beers such as Lia Fail and Ossian) which justified the bar being about 60-70p more expensive than the others we visited.
