With my severe incense aversion, it's amazing I even set foot inside this store. But I had one goal…read more- to get to the soap. Not because I was emitting a stench of any sort, but because the handmade "artisan" soaps in here look utterly, irresistably delicious. They look like frothy, creamy slices of cake (complete with beautifully decorated swirls of "icing"), and they smell absolutely divine. With names like Cherry Blossom and Berrylicious, I'm sure you get my drift. And it only cost $9 to smell that damn good. The rest of the store was your typical hippie fare (fisherman's trousers, smock tops made of Indian cotton etc) - although it wasn't as "batik" and traveller-esque as I've seen in some stores of this ilk - it's a little chicer and the ranges are a little bit more well chosen.

It may not be for everyone, but I love stores like this. I wouldn't say that I'm a big tie-die wearer, but I really like some of their other clothes. They also have great service, with the lovely lady working at the time I was visiting absolutely delighting shoppers with her kindness (I saw one customer decide she deserved a hug in return). As I wandered aimlessly through the store, I came across a table with a variety of handmade soaps. As the sign invited me to, I picked one up and smelled it, then another and another. They all smelled absolutely divine. I was sorely tempted to purchase one, but I never use bars of soap (I do use other cleansing products, don't worry). I've made a mental note of their range, in permanent marker, if I ever do start though.

The store is full of flowy pieces perfect for those that want to cover up even in hot summer weather. There's plenty of stuff for men and women, as well as swimwear and quite a collection of Havaianas. One quirky little touch in the design that I loved is the feature of an analogue clock above the store name on the outside of the building. There's a strong possibility I found this desirable in the way a hungry person thinks even plain bread is the most delicious thing ever, as my phone battery was dead and I had no way of knowing the time. But still, charming.

Latrobe…read moreTerrace is renowned for its vintage clothing, cafes, and stylish fashion and Ginza falls into the last category brilliantly. The first rack you see when you walk in is the sale rack, brilliant! They have a great range of brands like Mink Pink, One Way, and Imprint at reduced prices; which, being a very poor uni student, I very much appreciate. I walked in thinking a gorgeous skirt I picked up was going to cost about $200 and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was only $60. These are the types of great prices for really adorable clothing at Ginza. They also have very nice seasonal shoes that are also as tempting as they are low in price. A gorgeous range of accessories also encourages unwanted excessive spending in here so watch your wallets. I was weak, I couldn't resist. Definitely make it a pit stop along a shopping walk through Paddington.

I was drawn to this shop by a cute dress in the window and wasn't disappointed by the range of tops and dresses inside. I would say the quality of the garments are reasonable and the prices are OK. If you like shopping in "Tree of Life", you'll love this place. I feel like what people were telling me and what I saw in the flesh was quite different. I was picturing more of a boutique with trendy clothing and seasonal pieces but walked in and found I probably would only wear a few (if any) of the clothes they had on show. I'm not giving their shoes justice in saying this because there was a pretty good selection at reduced prices. The clothes I would say however are more suited to formals and possibly for slightly older ladies (what was in store when I went in, at least). There was a lot going on in the designs with bedazzling bejewelled dresses in particular. I'm sad to say I walked away a bit disappointed. I'd been saving my money and being sensible about other shops along Latrobe, thinking that I'd want to buy far too many and dent my bank account once I'd gotten to Petrol but I actually walked away with nothing. I'm sure there are some gems within the range but I was a little disheartened and didn't make the effort to find them. Like I said, this is probably an excellent place to look for formal dresses but didn't quite appeal to my particular taste.

A boutique…read moreis not just any dress shop, it is not any small store, it is not automatically expensive and it is not part of a chain. A true boutique is exactly what Petrol Paddington is - a collection of incredible clothes, sourced from a number of suppliers based on the owners design vision, not on a stockist contract. The clothes are arranged in colours and are supplemented by an extensive range of shoes and accessories. The most amazing thing about Petrol would have to be its price range. You can find a $50 dress hanging next to a $500 dress, and walking out with either of them will be a win for ladies who like to be ahead of the fashion pack. TLDR: don't wish you had a stylist, go to Petrol Paddington and take advantage of their style vision instead. You will end up with an amazing outfit for an amazing price and never have the fear that somebody else will be dressed the same as you.
