First Farmers & Merchants Bank

First Farmers & Merchants Bank

(2 reviews)

First farmers and merchants bank literally stole $87 from me and on top of it cancelled my savings…read moreaccount that I've had for 12 years. Here's what happened and how they lost a 15 year customer. So I've always money in my savings account and I guess it's always been over $100 but times are hard in my life and I had to keep pulling money out of my savings account to get things paid. well I pulled money out of my savings account for a bill and my balance was $87 in my savings account I didn't pull anymore money out for another month when I didn't have enough money on hand to pay a bill so I had to pull some more money out of my savings account so I walked in and and told them I wanted to withdraw $20 out of my savings account and the lady said well sir you don't have a savings account. I laughed thinking there was some kind of mistake and told her I've had the same savings account for 12 years now try again because I need $20 out of my savings because I need to pay a bill, she looked again and said no sir still no savings account so I freaked and said ok we'll hold my checking account because someone got ahold of my bank info and messed with it and stole my money! She called a manager and I went to her office and she then explained to me that if someone has less than $100 in their savings account there is a $30 a week fee until the balance gets above $100. At this point I am completely outraged! I let her have it! I shouted ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! WHY DIDNT THE BANK TELLER TELL ME THIS WHEN I WITHDREW MONEY OUT OF MY SAVINGS ACCOUNT THE LAST TIME!? She just said I'm sorry sir she didn't have to. So I said SO YOU LITERALLY STOLE MY $87 THEN SHIT DOWN MY SAVINGS ACCOUNT IVE HAD FOR 12 years?! she said we didn't steal anything sir you were charged penalties. I immediately pulled all the money out of my checking account and closed my accounts at first farmers and merchants bank and switched to another bank that don't have hidden scams to steal peoples money.

I've had bank accounts in five states with dozens of banks and this is one of the absolute worst…read morebanks to deal with. The problem is not the local tellers, who are friendly and try to help, but upper management (EVERYTHING rises or falls with leadership). I have income from different sources and often from one-time sources. They have to know why I'm getting the money and what I did to earn it. Can you say -- big brother??? Management requires a ten day hold on any check that's over $5525. We all know that money is transferred almost instantaneously these days in the banking system. It sure does not take them ten days to take money out of my account. I surmise that they are using my funds for their own investments during that ten day period --- interest free. I just deposited a decent, but not huge check from a big company and was told by the teller it would be held for three days, then released. I didn't like it, but had already endorsed the check with "for deposit only" and my account number. That limited my options. Upper management stepped in --- after I deposited the check and put a ten day hold on the money. I complained and told them this was the last straw and I would close my account, but they refused to honor their first agreement. My advice -- stay away! Their goal is to use you and abuse you for their ends.
