Woodbury Theater Park and Ride

The title of this review is: New Rider Etiquette, aka, The Stuff They Won't Tell You on…read moremetrotransit.org. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if all the suburban express buses (and not just Woodbury) operated in a similar fashion so make sure you have your peepers open and approach with caution if you don't want to commit a heinous social gaffe that will brand you and your mistake in the memories of all your fellow riders until another newbie shows up and makes the same scandalous faux pas. If you are 1) observant, 2) have your money or bus pass in hand before boarding the bus and 3) understand this concept of standing in a line and patiently waiting your turn, you should be okay. The first time I rode the bus here, I had a solid grasp of #1 and #2 because these same skills are required to ride the CTA buses and trains in Chicago. But 3#??? Waiting in a line? Being patient? OH HELL NO! In Woodbury, the first person to arrive at the bus stop (if the next bus has not arrived yet) becomes the Line Starter. To ensure proper Line Formation, the Line Starter must be able to identify west from east. For starters: the entrance to the theater faces north (towards Target). There are maybe 6 doors that make up this entrance and it is the responsibility of the Line Starter to identify the westernmost door at this entrance and to stand there confidently, as if it say, "I am First. I will be the First Person to board the bus. You must all stand Behind me." After that, each subsequent arrival must join the line in the order they got there. If you fuck up, nobody will say anything. But they will STARE. The will STARE DAGGERS. And they will SILENTLY HATE YOU. And if they are standing next to somebody they know (maybe they know each other from church or maybe they live in the same subdivision or maybe they work for the same company) one will comment quietly to the other, "uh-oh, looks like a newbie. Normally I'd say something but I'm ______ (fill in the blank with an excuse) today." And every time I hear that, I'm like, "Oh Shutup! You would never say anything! And neither will any of the rest of us!! Quit giving yourself airs!" As soon as the bus arrives, everyone then boards the bus in a neat and orderly fashion. Thus ends part one of the lesson. Part two begins at the end of the workday when the bus is pulling back into the park and ride lot and everyone has begun to wrap up their iPod cords, put away their newspapers and put bookmarkers in the appropriate spot. As soon as the bus stops, DO NOT STAND UP. STAY WHERE YOU ARE. Everyone on the bus deboards from the front to the back of the bus. You do not stand up until it is your turn to join the line of people exiting the bus. If you are sitting at the back of the bus and you stand up prematurely, people will immediately assume that you are a line jumper. That you are trying to exit the bus before it is your turn. They will stare at you. They will shoot invisible laser beams into your torso. They will silently criticize you and judge you for your inability to be an observant witness to the complex social orders that are at work on the bus. Messed up, isn't it? I've been riding the bus to and from this location for the past 8 months and I'm still amazed at the depth of reach that social strictures can have on a group of strangers. It's astonishing that a group of Minnesotans (and Woodburians, at that, who are even more nice than the atypical kind of Minnesota nice, if that's even possible) all managed to decide to do the same thing, every day, and probably all without ever talking to each other or acknowledging the reasons we all feel this deep urging to do this because I'm not going to lie: I like the orderliness and cleanliness of a line too. And humans like to color themselves amazed by patterns of bird migrations. Pfft.

Seems like everything that can go wrong finds me. After having the brakes go out on my truck & have the cost of that repair earlier in the week, I was looking forward to the 4th of July holiday weekend with my kids & grandkids. Hooked up the big 5th wheel rig and headed out from Shakopee. I made it 9 miles when I heard something was very wrong. I found my way off the highway onto a backroad in Eden Prairie. I parked, checked the rig and found it was the truck's serpentine belt fraying off. I had no one to call. Feeling defeated I sat in the truck with my dog and cried. I sat there for about 20 minutes. People, trucks and cars passed by when a courier type van was passing by stopped and asked if I was ok or needed help. Told him my situation and he said that his business is on the other side of this block if you want to walk over and let's see what we can do. I walked over and he was in his office. It was then I realized this was not an employee. It was the owner himself. He ordered the part. He had his mechanic; Viktor install the new belt and make sure I was on my way. It's the things people do when no one's watching that tell you the content of their character. And even better, when they have zero to gain but have the compassion to help others shows the content of their heart. I will forever be grateful to Gus & Viktor. These guys are the real deal and are simply amazing. I pray they are blessed abundantly in all they do. THANK YOU GUS!!!!

We knew the price was cheap but we thought for $500 we would get something decent. The stripper pole in the middle was not classy and lit up like it was in the pictures but dirty and stained which we were not a fan of. The seats were stained and ripped up and the driver was so rude! He didn't know where we were going, and made us re give him the address two separate times!! The plus side is that he got us from point A to point B relatively quickly. The downside is that the bus was disgusting, the driver was rude and at the end of it all he expected a tip!!! I wouldn't reccomend it to family or friends or even an enemy! Stay far away unless you're looking for a cheap bus to just get you around..

My bridesmaids booked a bus through this company (well in advance) for my bachelorette party. Our…read morepick up time was scheduled for 7:00pm August 13th (last night....). The following is a detail to give some background. A few weeks prior to the day of the bachelorette party, my bridesmaids had discovered that a friend owned a bus and they were willing to give us a great deal. Naturally, we contacted Smooth Riders to see if it was a possibility to cancel our reservation. The person that we spoke with stated that if we chose to cancel our reservation, we would then be charged $250.00, on top of the $100.00 deposit that we had previously made, in order to cancel our reservation. $350.00 (ridiculous)?!?! So, because that price was completely outlandish, we decided we would just keep our reservation. The day of my bachelorette party, we were notified a few hours before our scheduled pick up time, that the bus we had reserved was in the shop being repaired (and had been for a week, which we were never told until that moment) but we were assured that they would have our bus (or some bus) for us and we would be picked up at 7:00pm. He also said that the driver could be a few minutes late, but he offered to take money off if that was the case (we were fine with that). At roughly 6:50pm, the bus driver called and told us that she was on her way with our bus but was going to be late. She said that she might need to have another bus pick us up and bring us to our first destination and then she would meet us there (instead of at our hotel) with our bus (we were not complaining because we were still being picked up). At 7:10pm, we had been gathered and waiting for a bus, as we were promised. We made mutiple attempts to contact the owner and the driver to see when we would be picked up. No answer. We then received a call at 7:20pm and were RUDELY informed that we no longer had ANY bus coming to pick us up (our bus was being towed back to the shop) and that they were cancelling on us. He THEN told us that all of his buses were booked for the night so he had nothing for us. He was not sympathetic at all (he simply said it was out of his control), he did not offer to pay US the $350.00 cancellation fee+deposit, and he went as far as saying that we were indecisive and didn't have our stuff together, so this was "for the best". We understood that things happen, but we were paying for this service and we were PROMISED that we would have a bus. I feel that he was extremely deceitful in not telling us about the bus being in the shop for the past week (when we could have made a different plan), he made promises that he could not keep (in saying that he had another bus that could bring us to our first destination to meet our reserved bus), and to not have a backup vehicle was irresponsible and left us in a horrible position- 22 people waiting to get on a bus that we had reserved months ago and were depending on for the night's festivities. STAY AWAY!! This was a complete a nightmare....

Then the Monday before, they emailed me saying they had a bus brake down that past weekend and I could move the time earlier/later or get a refund...which of course is not ideal when you've been planning a party for 25 people. So I chose the refund, and it took over 3 weeks to get my money back. They kept having issues and the right people weren't available to help, and then after I had waiting for 3 weeks I said it was ridiculous and they told to stop being rude. Use at your own risk, I was skeptic of them at first and they proved my skepticism right. Horrible customer service. Horrible company to work with.
