It is with great regret that I give this 1 star. My assessment was completely botched -- the results portray me as an entirely different person and are wildly inaccurate. I showed my family and friends, and we had a good laugh! According to this evaluation, I apparently do not have the long-standing, medically diagnosed conditions I've had since adolescence -- congenital ones that directly affect neurodivergent traits. This level of misrepresentation is not only false, but harmful and disrespectful. I have not yet had the opportunity to attend a review appointment, though I was sent a brief review by email. While this practice is typically responsive, communication has significantly dropped off since then. My final appointment was also very odd and rushed -- the evaluator appeared to be inebriated, which was incredibly uncomfortable and unprofessional. I also specifically requested focus on certain areas of concern during the brain mapping -- requests that were ignored. My family and I paid out of pocket for this, believing it would focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder and memory, as had been discussed. Instead, the evaluation was vague, incomplete, and ultimately unhelpful. I walked away feeling like this entire process was a waste of time, energy, and money. UPDATE: I have now sent three emails, including one with a screenshot of your response to my review. That response received a reply -- but my earlier, kindly worded email expressing concern was ignored. You cannot dismiss every patient complaint as "false." That is highly unprofessional and unacceptable. I'm very disappointed with the new front office staff. During a recent phone call, I was repeatedly interrupted while trying to explain my request, and it felt like I wasn't even allowed to finish a sentence. Their communication was unclear and grammatically poor, making it difficult to understand what was being said. It came across as unprofessional and unorganized. Just a few months ago, when my stepdaughter was a patient there, the previous front office team was welcoming, respectful, and incredibly helpful. The difference now is night and day. I called last week to request medical documents, and the staff seemed unsure of how to handle a basic request. It felt like even they didn't know what the correct process was. I hope management addresses these issues, because the front office is the first impression of any practice--and right now, it's not a good one. read more

Firstly, this review is anonymous for the fact that several clients have mentioned receiving legal/harassment repercussions. Yes, appointments being scheduled months in advance is perfectly fine, but having to call multiple times per week, throughout multiples months JUST to get an appointment after being told SEVERAL times that I would receive a call back and never did, then called back myself and had to repeat the process. That is beyond unprofessional and speaks immense volumes to the lack of administrative responsibility. "Lashing out and slandering him will not be tolerated", wow, almost like this is a review and I gave my honest review. If Mr. Barclays ego is so hurt that someone left him a negative review, then that should speak for itself. Y'all have 2.2/10 stars on reviews, need I say more? But, I will. No, I have not received a previous diagnosis, contrary to Tim's opinion, I do have a brain and was able to observe my own mental health for an extended period of time and conduct my own research, which was far more beneficial than anything I was told. I did not attack anyone, Tim is a rude, pompous, arrogant, entitled, joke of a clinician. Don't allow to leave reviews if you're not going to like a negative one. My review was just as unprofessional and harsh as my experience with this joke of a clinic. Taking the fact that you responded to a review and in simpler terms, denied everything and told me I was wrong, I see the insufferable ego has spread to the rest of the staff. Be very careful. The experience we had was so horrible. When I have tried to post about it, my review was removed because they demanded it be taken down or they were going to legally come after me. We were going there for my 16 year old son to be evaluated for ADHD. Just please do your homework before trusting this practice. Update #1: I just got an email from them threatening legal action if I don't remove this post. Wow. Also, they accused me of being abusive towards them on the phone. That is not true. They are saying that to justify their receptionists poor behavior. They are also saying that they called us to notify us of the new policy regarding the waiting room. That never happened. An apology in this case would have been appropriate, but they decided to escalate this situation and slander and accuse me of some sort of wrong doing. On the BBB compliant that I filed, they said that due to the clients that they serve, this is normal behavior when they are told something they don't like to hear. Meaning, the mentally challenged or mentally ill are being judged and stereotyped. Update #2: Message from a friend who heard about our situation: "Nicole-I wanted to share this counselor with you- based on your horrible experience at Advanced therapeutics - which we know too well ALL about! Dr Mikkelson left that practice less than a year ago and he and his wife have a new place in Wyndhurst. He's the real deal ( not such big ego personality that you'll find at Advanced...) I've been through a lot, and tried therapy several times throughout my life with different doctors and counselors. The purpose of therapy for me is to heal so that I can have healthy relationships with friends, family and myself, and eventually so that I can be the best version of myself for my husband and kids if that's what the Lord has planned for me. I want to break generational curses starting with me. Dr. Pingleton is the first to help me to such a profound degree. I'm so grateful for the kindness, compassion, and wisdom he has shown me in all the times we've met. I truly feel like I'm changing for the better since I've been going to therapy appointments with him. Every time I walk out of that building, my heart feels deeply grateful for everything that I get to take with me. I've heard that life gets a little bit harder before it gets better when you start working on healing your inner traumas, and that's true. It isn't easy to lay your trauma out in front of you, and look in the mirror as you recognize the shattered pieces of your reflection. But I feel so accomplished, inspired, and hopeful that I'm recognizing parts of myself and my life that were unclear to me before. I have always been so hard on myself, but I'm learning to give myself grace and see things through the lens of a Biblical worldview, instead of the worldview that I had my whole life that left me so empty. I love that Dr. Pingleton has a heart for the Lord and shares Biblical truth with me in our sessions... it helps me find peace and solid ground when I feel hopeless or lost. He's also really funny, and I like to laugh between the tears haha. According to Dr. Pingleton, humor and laughter is like a spoonful of sugar in the world of Marry Poppins! I cannot express how much my visits with Dr. Pingleton has blessed me and I'm grateful and eager to continue coming to therapy here. read more

Like another person mentioned, If you aren't a Baptist, don't get tested as a high IQ by a very debunked test, or have some degree, she will no doubt give you no dignity. I lost my children from the extremely naive comments this woman made. . . She was biased and didn't listen to anything I said to explain myself. Even though I have had majorly bad legal harassment, when I said honestly that someone was out to get me, she called me paranoid. When I didn't test well for IQ, but told her I was distracted by the construction next door and not great at math, but all my friends are smart to downright genius IQ, she called me narcissistic!! When I disagreed with her religious beliefs, she called me delusional! No one has ever said these things about me, other than the ignorant people who simply disagree with me philosophically and are simply using ad hominum attacks to try to make themselves feel better. . . She is basically a very judgemental woman posing as a professional. read more

I happen to like expanding my knowledge pertaining to new scientific fact about our history, ancient and biblical, and (sin of all sins) am not baptist. I went in for ADHD testing and diagnosis, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Dr. Barclay was abrupt, demeaning, and very dismissive. Everything down to his body language in our appt. was unprofessional. I went in for an ADHD diagnosis, and he told me that he was more concerned about my thought and mental health, and conveniently kept pushing his "brain mapping" that would have extra costs and wasn't covered by insurance. He told me he was concerned because of a few specific traits I reported align with personality disorders (the same traits he referred to also align with ADHD). Super dismissive when I was explaining certain situations, used the word "dramatic" on me multiple times. I did not feel safe and he did not address my concerns. Dr. Barclays practice might have been fine 20 years ago, but is unnacceptable now. Please, go elsewhere for testing and treatment. read more

Poorly managed. High turn over of office staff. Often saw people come in for their appointment only to be turned away because the patient had the wrong time/date. The office staff didn't exhibit much concern or care that patients were rearranging their day for these 'wrong' appointments. You can hear the office staff discussing patients in their office area and you can hear the doctor discussing things with patients and staff if he doesn't have his door closed. The doctor didn't address my child at all during our meeting, I had to be the one to draw my child into the conversation and my child was the one needing care. 25 QEEG sessions had minimal if any noticeable results. It wasn't paired with any objective evaluation to monitor real value so our attempts to report potential improvement were left with vague guesses. Troubleshooting and solutions for how to get more out of the QEEG sessions came much later in the process than they should have. The doctor was pleased at the brainwave mapping showing some sort of change because it proved something was changing but it didn't translate into anything we could notice in daily life. More QEEG treatments was their solution for better results. We are having a much better experience with a retired mental health professional doing L.E.N.S. and counseling from a home office. It is a much better value because the L.E.N.S. treatment comes with a counseling session for the same price of Advanced Psychotherapeutic's QEEG which has no counseling. This route also has measurable objective results to the degree that this professional doesn't discuss the brain mapping with us because the real marker is a change in real life experiences. We are seeing much more noticeable results! Also owning a personal AVE device has been a wonderful tool for mental health management between appointments. read more

Staff wasn't friendly or inviting. The doctor I saw did not introduce himself in the entire hour I saw him. Claimed I needed treatment that 3 other physicians said would be completely unnecessary. Staff did not answer voicemails or calls. I would summarize my experience as rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to anyone and would suggest that they look elsewhere. read more

First off I have had a couple bad experiences here with 2 other counselors. Why did I keep going? I always give the benefit of doubt. But after my first and last appointment with Dr. Barclay I decided to speak out because I no longer feel safe or cared for. I guess I could copy and paste Caroline R. review. I went for ADHD testing and a wild leap was made. Only instead of "dramatic", he used "psychotic" several times and "train wreck". I know I have things I'm working on but I'm doing better and better. I tried to be in agreement with him (cause he's the professional) and I was so shocked at what he said, but I got off the phone (Telehealth) feeling horrible. Zero questions were asked before so many statements were made about me. People seeking help for mental health are VULNERABLE and easy to manipulate when using their problems AGAINST them. My concerns were not addressed, information I freely shared in intake was embellished upon, and used against me which floored me, and I was basically just a sum of negative parts that needs multiple lines of therapies that of course he can provide. It's disappointing because a lot of his therapy seems like they might work but when you're bedside manner or approach with a patient leaves them feeling so reduced, I don't even know how well the treatment can help because they will not feel relaxed enough to even be authentic anymore. When I relayed the experience to my mom (who has worked as a psychiatric nurse) she was appalled. I see other people have said Dr. Barclay would say this type of review is just the sort of review a mentally ill person would write. But why is it this practice the only one I can find with 2 stars? Every other practice has 4-5. Is it because he is just that amazing and brilliant he cannot help but have an overwhelming negative response from all the other psychotic train wrecks out there who are haters? Nah. Physicians in power or especially private practice, can treat people with disregard and make degrading assumptions based on stereotypes, and you feel marginalized and there is nothing you can do.
