I used Starline from Dallas to College Station and back for the Ol' Miss football game (October…read more11). I think the bus is a great idea. But, it seems to me there are some bugs they need to work out. First, the good: the Starline guy taking tickets at the bus was super nice and helpful, the bus was clean (except bathroom smell - see below), all the passengers were really nice and well behaved, and the driver was very helpful and professional. Here's what needs work: they advertised that the bus would have Wi-Fi. It did not. In fact they didn't even mention anything about Wi-Fi at any time during the trip. Next, the bathroom smelled bad. I mean, really bad. I sat several rows up from it and every time the door opened up it was really nasty. It was that way both going and coming back. I would probably use Starline again for an Aggie game. It's really nice not to have to drive, especially when the game is so late in the day . But, I found the no Wi-Fi thing pretty annoying because I was planning on doing some work on my iPad. Even if it was broken, they could have at least said that.

This is a very nice visitors center and a great place to start your visit to Huntsville, Texas. The…read morecenter is right off of Interstate 45 and an exit north of the one for Huntsville State Park. There is a very large parking lot, the day we visited there was hardly anyone there so we found spaces right up close to the center. The center is a very nicely constructed building with a large deck and walkways that lead down to the trail to the large statue of Sam Houston nearby on the edge of the interstate. The staff inside were very nice, they have all kinds of brochures and handouts on places to visit in Huntsville and things to do. There is an outdoor small amphitheater area where I imagine a talk or lecture might be given on the life of Sam Houston; on the day of our visit nothing was happening but it was early in the morning and it was President's Day.

My dad and I spent two unholy nights at this rattrap excuse for a motel. The door to our room was…read moremissing the deadbolt and appeared to have been kicked in. The wall containing the outlets for the TV, microwave, refrigerator, and several lamps lacked power, so no TV for us (not that I watch that pedestrian crap, but still...). The wall behind the toilet contained a large moldy void. I can only presume the motel was built over one of the seven earthly gateways to hell and that the hole was a portal through which demonic spirits enter and sprinkle moldy residue throughout the bathroom. The air conditioning unit sounded as though it was powered by an XF-84H "Thunderscreech" aircraft (look up that arcane reference!), yet struggled mightily to keep the room at a comfortable 72 degrees. Well, enough of the bad. What of the good, you ask? Well...umm...the bed was free of urine, feces, and blood, so that's a huge plus. Rodeway Inn has my permission to use that line in their advertising. Also, for $52/night, I suppose I shouldn't complain, but this is Yelp and I'm a spoiled brat, so here's a one-star review anyway. Are there worse places to spend the night? Certainly. Mendoza Prison in Argentina would probably score worse. After all, the toilet worked, so I didn't have to pee and poop in bottles and bags. Perhaps I should have; it would have at least provided a bit of entertainment in lieu of TV.
