Advent Orlando inpatient hospice DO NOT put your loved on there! We expected the same as an room we had ever had there but no. Hospice patients are put in the oldest building on the campus directly next and under the helicopter flight path and landing area. Next to ambulance parking and loading docks. Noise non stop. Our "finest" room had one sofa to sleep on. I had to fight w charge nurse to move chairs to create a place to sleep next to my husband. No cleaning in room for six days. Inadequate saftey in bathroom and a communal shower! Total bio hazard! Save that one nurse the staff was wonderful, doctor caring but when I raised hell about the facility I was told improvements would be made but they would not be moving patients to any of their new construction or newly acquired buildings. They simply DO NOT CARE about dying patients. Its been a month since I requested from the hospice manager to be contacted by his direct boss. Nothing. My husband's remark when transfered " I worked hard all my life to die in a dump" My family is forever scarred by this place. read more

The hospice coordinator at the hospital was incredible...however after the first day I'm concerned & considering switching providers. The description of services and the initial at home set up was nothing like we were told. When calling to notify we were home & we were told we'd get a tuck in visit, no one ever came. When calling the woman fumbled the phone & said she'd let someone know. The communication has been nonexistent. No call, no help getting us prepared at home. My Mother is pretty much bed bound & her husband needs guidance. Her meds were supposed to be in a "bubble wrap" set, easily labeled & prefilled syringes...this is not what we received. The at home hospital bed with special mattress looks ancient & doesn't have leg rails...not ideal. If this doesn't change I will be seeking a new provider very soon. read more

Everyone was vey compassionate and truly concerned about the end-of-life care for our loved one. She was very calm and peaceful, not in pain and well-tended to. Hospice is not for the faint of heart! My mother recently passed away at AdventHealth Hospice, and although there were a few missteps in the beginning, and after many chats with her care team we came to terms and understood how it works. The care teams are 100% patient oriented, and the support teams are wonderful, too. Everyone as a whole genuinely cared about my mother, my family and I. Although AdventHealth is a faith based institution they accommodated my mother's jewish faith. My only issue was with an individual on the medical team who took it upon themselves to "preach" to us which we found very uncomfortable! read more

The hospice home only offers LOTS OF MEDICATION as comfort. And I don't even think it is for comfort. I believe this is an assisted suicide place. They will kill your loved one by overdosing them. My dad was offered a ton of different medications every two hours that a healthy person couldn't even tolerate. I wish you guys would advertise your facility for really what it is. We were way mislead in the hospital with what you guys truly offer, you only offer comfort by medication. We were promised suctioning lol that was a joke instead just give Benadryl right. Don't send your loved one here. The hospice representive even told me before we sent my dad here they have quick turn around my distraught mind during such a situation didn't think about it until now and no wonder why with all the COMFORT (aka medication)you guys provide. Please think twice before ever getting advent health hospice care for one of your loved ones. AdventHealth Hospice Care Altamonte Springs My husband entered Hospice under your care at home. I told the intake coordinator at the time of intake he had a pacemaker/defibrillator, and was told that would not be an issue, it would be turned off. You also had access to ALL OF HIS MEDICAL RECORDS. Only when the time came it WASN'T turned off nor did I have the magnet needed to disable it. The Nurse you sent told me she wasn't trained in the process to turn it off and GOOGLED IT, THEN LEFT TO GO TO YOUR OFFICE TO GET IT. The defibrillator went off FIVE TIMES OVER A FOUR-HOUR PERIOD BEFORE IT was finally DISSABLED. I heard him scream EACH TIME IT FIRED and SAW HIM FLAIL UP FROM THE BED. Shame on you! Needless to say, I do NOT recommend Advent Health Hospice care. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: I don't often feel compelled to write reviews, but our experience with AdventHealth Hospice was so utterly appalling that I feel I have no choice. I don't want any family to experience what we went through in my grandmother's final days. My family is big, and my grandmother was the matriarch. We all surrounded her in her home on those last days, and as this was a new experience for us, we looked to the hospice team to be an anchor guiding us through the process. Instead we received confusion, apathy, judgement, and all around lack of compassion. I believe in providing evidence, so I'll list out the specific encounters we had that upset us, and you can decide with that what you will. It began with the first hospice nurse dropping off a bag of medications with no instructions, telling us we would receive those at a later date. We saw my grandma in discomfort for that entire day, but we had no information on how and when to administer any of the medication. We tried calling multiple times for guidance and were told a nurse would be by to explain. Almost 24 hours after she was put into hospice care, that nurse came. She asked if we'd started the medications and seemed surprised we hadn't. We explained that we were told to wait for guidance. She also was unaware that my grandma had drains in that needed to be emptied each day to remove fluid from her lungs, allowing her to breath easily. No one seemed to be on the same page. My grandma was placed into crisis care about 24 hours before she ended up passing. The night nurse we had was wonderful. He took time to ask questions about her and showed genuine care. That can not be said for the nurse who arrived Sunday morning. Her name was Carrie (unsure of the spelling). My grandma passed that Sunday evening, and so we spent her final day with Carrie in the house with us. At no point did she engage with the family. She offered no kind words or support, made no attempt to ask about what kind of person my grandma was, etc... She just sat at the kitchen table eating her cups of yogurt. We made attempts to make her feel comfortable, offering her food that was being delivered, coffee, etc.. but she simply said no. At one point, my aunt asked her how we'll know when it's time, if there were any signs to look for. She simply said, "well, did you read the pamphlet?", and then went back to her computer. My mother, who was understandably carrying a huge emotional load as she watched her mom deteriorate, hadn't eaten all day. I ordered her something on UberEats, and as soon as it was delivered and she was unpacking it, Carrie walked up to my mom and with judgment in her voice said, "It's my understanding you didn't tell your mom she was in hospice?". My mom replied yes, and not that it was her concern, but it was a family choice and my grandma had a tremendous fear of death and knowing she was in hospice would have caused her to completely shut down. Carrie then responded with, "well, you should probably let her know she can let go now". It felt as though she was trying to hurry the process in time for her shift to end. I understand the logic behind what she said, but her delivery and timing were appalling. When my grandma's final moments came, my family instinctively knew, and we all surrounded her. We hugged her and cried as she took her final breaths. Carrie stood poised behind us with her gloves already on before my grandma even passed. Then when Carrie stepped in to check to see if it was over, all she said was, "She's gone". There was no condolence, there was no she's so lucky to have had you all here, there was nothing. We all cried and hugged each other, and not 60 seconds later she loudly asked for the name of the funeral home, so she could begin calling. We asked her for a few minutes as a family, and she again said she needed the name of the funeral home. We asked her to step outside and would let her know in a bit. If this is vital information that needed to be gathered immediately, wouldn't it have been acquired before she passed? We were simply asking for 10 minutes as a family, but her rudeness was overwhelming. My grandma deserved better, and as long as she is employed by AdventHealth Hospice, I could never in good conscience recommend it to any family. The number one quality a hospice nurse should have is empathy and compassion. I was always under the impression that was what hospice was, but it couldn't have been further from the truth. read more

My family member was prescribed hospice care for her last few remaining days of life. Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs had availability and it truly was meant to be. The doctors, nurses, techs, staff...everyone was beyond kind and gentle. True angels. When having to say goodbye to a loved one, every big and little thing matters and this facility allowed the experience to be as comfortable as possible for my family member while giving us all peace of mind that her complete comfort was their top priority. When she was conscious, she commented several times at how much she liked her room and how nice everyone was to her. The care was genuine and it gave us peace that she felt it. The rooms in this facility each have a screen-enclosed patio which allows sunlight and fresh air into the space if wished. A cushioned chair pulls out into a small bed for an overnight visitor. Each room has ample seating, a TV, and a full private bathroom. There are little outdoor paths to stroll if visitors need some physical movement. Refreshments are available for donation and there is a community dining area with tables and chairs for visitors. Meals can be made available with advance notice and the location is surrounded by shopping/dining/mall. read more

Facility didn't get any orders for comfor meds or pain meds. NOTHING!!! next day Dominique can for maybe 10 min. to "fix" drugs and order absence. As difficult as our dad's illness and ultimate death was, we are constantly reminded of the extremely thoughtful and loving care AdventHealth Hospice Care in Altamonte Springs, FL provided during his decline. Every one of the staff did a remarkable job to make us (the family) feel comforted and to satisfy our needs, in addition to the needs of our dad. This is a very special group of people who are so obviously dedicated to their mission. Our dad was bathed, had his position changed frequently to keep him comfortable; they even brushed what little hair he had. The nurses asked to see photos of our dad and to hear stories of his life. The receptionist and social worker worked hard to provide me with a letter to present to the airlines when I had to cancel my flight home due to my dad's illness. The doctor on staff was sensitive but honest regarding my father's condition. Overall, our experience was excellent. read more

My daughter is in her very last days (hours). I was shocked to learn that Hospice of the Comforter has NO inpatient facilities! We were assured repeatedly that she wouldn't have to die at home and that there was a hospice facility. They even had a tour! However, our family is ill prepared to provide sufficient 24 hour care. By the time we found out the truth she didn't have enough time to complete the Medicaid paperwork. We are "making do" as best we can. I'm very disappointed that my daughter's final wishes won't be honored. The in-home team HAS been great with pain management and routine visits. Considering what we have to deal with, and my daughter is mostly comfortable. But at this point we're hoping for a swift passage. read more

my cousin was admitted to hospice, I wish the family had asked me first-because this one just isn't great. The nurse that she had said she didn't need cross care, even though she was incapable of caring for herself and her mother is in her late 70s, an amputee and wheelchair bound. she was not able to change her colostomy bags and my mother found her covered in feces -delirious and not able to manage her medicatio-her "nurse" said she wasn't actively dying so she could not be in an inpatient unit- although once she fell out of bed and was put in the inpatient unit she died within 4 hours (that's pretty actively dying). we pick hospice so we can die with some dignity-but this hospice denied her that, put her family through hell- her nurse said she had 16 years experience with this company and that frightens me -because she was not clued in at all to what my cousin was experiencing-where she was in the dying process or what care she needed. read more

This place was freaking incredible. They took such good care of my mom and our entire family. Every single person from the doctors to the nurses to the CNA's to the volunteers and chaplain and social services. I have nothing but good things to say about hospice of the comforter. If skilled nursing facilities took care of their people like this and had surroundings as beautiful as these more people would get well. Within the same year, my mother and my grandmother passed away at the AdventHealth Hospice facility in Altamonte Springs. Both received hospice care at the home weekly,then daily, and then moved to the facility in Altamonte Springs. They both received excellent care both in the home setting and at the facility. The doctors, nurses, pastors, social worker, CNAs, music therapist and volunteers were all amazing. Basically any person we came in contact with related to advent hospice were so compassionate and skilled at their job. We called the 24 hour line multiple times on weekends and the middle of the night. A kind, knowledgeable person was always there for us providing medical help and reassurance or sending someone if we needed it. We were at the facility during the most restrictive time with COVID and then later when the restrictions were more relaxed. The staff was never mean or rude, they were only following the policy that they had to follow. My dad still drops off sweets weekly for the staff just to let them know how appreciative we are for the care they provided not only for my mother and grandmother but for us as well. My dad is here and the people are nothing short of amazing. They truly care about their patients dignity and letting them pass on as comfortably as possible. Do not choose Advent Health Hospice Care. They do not provided the care that they tell you they are going to provide. Every nurse that came to care for my mother had to drive for over and hour to get to our house and then they could not get out of our house fast enough we even had to wait for a nurse to get to our house for over an hour after my mom had pasted away in order for her to call the funeral home because the funeral home cannot come until the hospice nurse calls them. Then when the nurse got to our house her only concern was what time did my mom die and whether the dogs were put up. She was at our house in less than 15 minutes. I had to ask her to at least remove the Catheter so that the funeral home did not have to do it. You need to hire nurses that at least can fake a little compassion for a family that has just lost their mother. I don't think that there was one positive thing I can say about Advent Health Hospice. read more

The worst experience, I don't recommended to anyone. Unfortunately my grandma needed the service because of her situation and they didn't provide the service on time. Not only that the nurse that came to bath her always leave a mess , was super rough to her. Additional to that we are Hispanic and my sister doesn't speak English well and she told the nurse about it and the nurse started talking really slow to her like she was retarded. To tell you the final part from my experience we had to moved my grandma to another facility a couple week ago and they haven't pick up the equipment. Sought grief support services because several family members including my spouse passed away within a few months of each other. At first Flav seemed to counsel and I felt better after 2 sessions but during the 3rd session she didn't think I would be a good fit for the widow/widower group because I spoke about the others, including a beloved pet. This was after she said her sessions were to discuss all of my loses. Wow, if not for losing my spouse I would not be in the mental state I'm in. I feel like she wanted me to be angry as she described another members anger. I wanted to relate to others who have experienced the same as I. No help here...if you really want to share your grief this is not the place. We don't need judgement on our feelings about anyone we've lost. read more

My Mother spent her final day's here. She received wonderful care at this facility. She received compassion and kept her dignity until the end. They made sure of this. (Had she only received this type of care in hospital). They checked on us the family through out this process. They were there with emotional support, prayer if we wanted. Every sibling was given any information they wanted at any time day or night to help them in this process. My mom passed at this facility in 2017. While it was devastating to say goodbye (she was only 63 and had spent two months in the hospital before moving to hospice) she received the best possible care at Hospice of the Comforter (which now looks like it's called AdventHealth Hospice). She smiled right before she took her last breath. She couldn't talk anymore or even reach for my hand but seeing her smile has given me peace. The nurses were wonderful and supportive. My beloved father, Frank Morrone, passed away on Feb. 6th after a long illness which he bore with such dignity and such courage. My father exemplified all that is good in human kind, and the valiant way in which he dealt with six years and nine months of suffering will never be forgotten. How does one describe these Hospice of the Comforter angels who ministered to my father with such love and compassion? These women, Katie, Jackie, Jean, Melody, Amy, Mickey, Kimberly, Carolyn, Gail, Mary Carol, and Antoinette are truly doing God's work. They cared for my father with such genuine gentleness and compassion and they made his passing a peaceful experience for Dad and for us, who will always love him. I have never in my life seen such a fine and devoted group of women whose mission in life is to bring comfort and peace at one of the most difficult times. Dad's every need was met, and we all were treated with such, dignity, with untold gentleness, with such boundless compassion and respect. They honored the feelings and wishes of my Mother, who has been with my father, as his loving wife, for over 64 years. As a matter of fact, Amy, one of Dad's nurses, allowed (and suggested) Mother the opportunity to lie beside my father once more, in his Hospice bed, to be able to speak to him tenderly and tell him of her love, even though that love was clearly and unconditionally demonstrated every day of their lives, on both of their parts. What a blessing to be able to pass from this life in one's own home, surrounded by one's loved ones, in peace, and with the opportunity to maintain privacy, a sense of respect, and the closeness that we have always shared as a family. To show you how loving and caring this organization is, after Daddy passed, the very next day, they sent someone to remove the hospital bed, the oxygen tanks, etc. When they initially brought the bed a week ago today, Eddie, the man who set it up, did so quickly and efficiently. The man who picked up the bed, even told Mother that if she had trouble coping, that Hospice would be there for her and have grief counselors available. Yesterday, (Monday), Katie, the nurse who was Dad's case manager, and Mary Carol, Dad's social worker, both came to visit us and to tell Mother and my brother and I that they would be there for us for the next thirteen months, to help us handle our grief. My father's wishes were to never be hospitalized again during his lifetime, as he had some absolutely horrific experiences in Winter Park Memorial Hospital. Not only were we able to honor Daddy's wishes, we were able to be with him in his own home, in his own bedroom, where he belonged and where he wanted to be, with my mother, the love of his life for his entire life...nearly 65 years.... Rest in peace, Daddy, and when my time comes, may I have someone as gentle and compassionate as nurse Gail to help to usher me from this life and on to the next. read more

My father from the time he was taken into care until the time he departed was treated with the respect and comfort needed including for myself and my family. My grandmother was placed in this facility after being diagnosed with cancer. The staff was astonishingly rude to all of my family members and made this horrible experience 10 times worse. The staff is miserable and have no empathy. Could be jaded dealing with this over and over, but that is no excuse. No professionalism at all and don't subject your loved ones to this place. Just awful. The RN was a monster and didn't allow my uncle to be back in the room despite the other nurse saying it was okay. Mind you this is within minutes of my grandmothers death. So angering to even type about this experience. They should be absolutely ashamed of how they treat their patients and run this place. Talking to other families in the facility, we are not the only furious clients. One last thing I forgot...my poor grandma was found on her stomach when we arrived and coughing. The hospital we left gave strict instructions to have her on her side or back. She was also unable to move herself so thank God we arrived when we did. Ok that's all. My mother recently passed away at their facility this past weekend and their staff was beyond amazing in helping us in her final days. I recently changed my mom to their hospice services from vitas which we were extremely displeased with. We (family) felt that Vitas was just in for it for the money & not the actual care & comfort of my mother. Hospice of the comforter took the time to explain everything to me from the enrollment process to my mother's final moments. They explained the stages of bereavement so that I was better prepared when the time would arrive. My mother was so comfortable & at peace in their facility than she had been in the prior weeks. My mother had been so restless & uneasy until they took over her care. I feel that Hospice of the comforter actually takes the time to listen to the families concerns & cares for their patients. I am truly grateful for the care they showed my mother in her final days. This facility is beyond amazing and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a facility for their loved ones in their final stages. read more

This is a review on their home care, not the facility. First, I want to say that some of the people caring for my father were above and beyond, specifically a nurse named Karen. She was caring and compassionate and really helped my family feel supported during this difficult time. However, the company itself had a huge problem with communication! First they sent my father home with only a hospital bed, no other supplies whatsoever. So we went out and bought our own, only after he arrived and we had to send the aide away because she had no supplies. When we mentioned to the nurse that it would've been helpful to know in advance that we needed to purchase our own, she said that they should have provided everything! Key word being "should have". As the days went on there was much confusion about delivery of supplies and medications. My brother and I would call the 24hr number and someone would get back to us. As long as we just needed telephone support they were prompt, otherwise it would be hours before anyone would show up and, in the mean time, we would receive phone calls from several people from the same company who just didn't seem to be communicating with one another at all. As you can imagine, this created a lot of unnecessary stress during an already difficult time for my family. Also, it is worth noting that once out of "crisis care" this company provides limited assistance with home health. This was a bit of a surprise to us but fortunately my brother and I were able to assist in the care, as we are both in the medical field. If we had understood this initially we probably would've chosen a diffent company, again being an unnecessary added stressor of trying to find additional help with short notice. In the end, when my father passed, we were told that someone would come to our home to remove the hospital bed out of the living room. Two days later and they still hadn't come. Eventually, we just broke it down ourselves and moved it because it was too difficult to keep having to look at the empty bed where my father had recently been. I want to reiterate that many of the staff were kind, gentle people but unfortunately, some of that is overshadowed by the poor management of this company. If you plan to bring your loved one home on hospice care I would recommend looking into another company. Again, I can not speak of the actual facility. read more

I was not happy with their service. There were complaints from the stff about being under staffed. There seemed to be a mix up from one shift to another about medications and care. We were told one thing by one nurse and then soemthing else by another. We were told they would be HERE when the loved one passed. Loved one was very afraid of death and kept asking them to be here. They were NOT... In fact they arrived almost 90 minutes after the passing to verify death. The bathing nurse however was compassionate, caring and great!!!!!!!! Loved one kept crying and saying to me" they dont care about me". Some of the Hospice might be great, ours was not. This is an honest rating by a true prior client. read more

Hospice has changed over the year. It no longer helps a dying person have dignity and feel loved. My loved one passed feeling ignored and uncared about by Hospice. (July 2012) When you complain they all say they are under staffed. They give attitude when you call, they complain about their work load when they arrive. I am almost 70 myself and do NOT ever want Hospice of the Comforter. I hear it used to be good...not any more. They are over worked, under staffed, and blame everything on Medicare not paying.;...even though they are non profit. Anyone who had Hospice of the comforter before July 2012 was treated with love, respect and dignity. I heard from other patients, and even from the staff themselves, that they are not nearly as good as they use to be. THEY ADVERTISE ALL THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO GIVE. read more

I cannot recommend this hospice facility to anyone seeking compassionate, professional, end-of-life care for their loved one. No one told us what to expect; no one talked to us about medications; no one explained anything to us at all. My mother was in a lot of pain and her nurse was supposedly preparing her medications. However, even though I searched the entire facility, I could not locate the nurse. Myself and another family member were with my mother through her final moments but no one from the Hospice of the Comforter staff was on hand. Thank goodness we did not leave my mother alone for even one minute in this facility. Please research your options very carefully before choosing this one. read more

This a review of their home health care, which, I'm very sad to say, is atrocious. I will say that the situation is unique in the fact that, legally, the patient has no choice but to receive home health care from a Hospice. In ignorance, Hospice of the Comforter was chosen. I've read several reviews about their home health care, and they echo exactly what we've been going through at our place. We are not family to this patient. Family members live within the city. The patient has a terminal illness. The nurses do not communicate with each other. One day, two nurses would show up and say we should not be giving this patient his medication; it should be done by a nurse. Another day, different nurses come in and tell us that we should be giving the patient his medications. There have been occasions when we've had to call the 24/7 "hotline" or whatever. When we call and give the patients name, initially they cannot find the information. When transferred to another department or doctor or nurse, we've been asked no less than 3 times to repeat the patients name, "could you please spell that for me?", "I don't seem to find it, please hold." Nurses came in one day to bathe the patient, they brought in an organizer for his medications. They placed the pills in their proper boxes and on their way out the front door, they discarded the bottles. Another nurse came in a week later and asked where the bottles were so they could verify the dosages. When we told them the previous nurses threw them away, their response was "Oh, they wouldn't do that." Yet they did and we saw it. Upon her departure, we were told that as his disease progressed he would have an incontinence problem and we would need to change his diapers. Last night a nurse and the chaplain came to visit based on a phone call we had placed because the patient was out of medication and the expected medication had not arrived that day through a delivery service. 1. It took from 6:50p.m. to 9:15p.m. before they arrived. 2. The nurse did not have any replacement medication for the short term for this patient. We explained about the patients condition and the suggestion that he needed to be placed in the hospice for 24/7 care, and the nurses response was "That's not my problem that he cannot be placed as an in-patient". We were in touch with a family member the entire time they were here and she spoke to the nurse as well, but nothing was resolved about the medication. The nurse asked what kind he was taking. Isn't that supposed to be information accessed by the nurse through a laptop or a smart phone from the hospice? The patient was clearly unresponsive last night, yet the nurse was giving him specific instructions on the medications he had been taking before he ran out. All the nurse received was a blank stare back, yet the nurse insisted on continuing not even verifying if the patient was receptive to what was being said. Lack of communications between nurses on this particular team, nurses that are on-call after 6p.m. assigned outside the area of the patient where large distances have to be traveled, their repeated instructions telling us to NEVER CALL 911, CALL US FIRST, the general rudeness and innuendo of a majority of the nurses and the total emotional detachment from the patient by the same have all played a part in our total dissatisfaction of Hospice of the Comforter's home health care. In-patient reviews are wonderful, however, the home care is repeatedly very low quality. Look for another home health care service when your family member needs it. read more
