I have stage 4 RCC and dealing with pain management and my oncologist had become ridiculous. Instead of me telling them what I needed and what my concerns were they told me basically how I felt, how I thought and provided no relief at all it just felt like a money grab as most healthcare facilities are. Vitas come on once I decided to end chemo as it was not working and cost me 12000 in dental work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From day one they listened they let me talk they let me tell them how I felt.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They put together a plan and have been nothing short of exceptional so far. I now receive equipment that I need and the correct medications so that I can possibly enjoy the rest of the time I have with my family. Maybe I just got lucky but I pray that anyone else using Vitas has the same experience that I have. Honestly I actually have hope which is something I haven't had in 2 plus years. No one at Vitas ever told me that I was subject to a 20% out of pocket fr Medicare. I thought all my bills would be paid through Florida Blue. I have had $3500 in out of pocket expenses this year. I thought it would go to my Blue out of pocket max. Instead with the bills submitted to Medicare, that $3500 went to my doctors as my share of the bills because of Medicare which has no max out of pocket. Add that $3500 to the zero pit towards my $4500 Florida Blue max out of pocket and I am looking at $8k before I can breathe. read more

Horrible. Two of their staff members could not recognize the signs of active dying with my Dad. One of them said he was fine and needed no extra care when he was 36 hours from death. The other said he needed only minimal morphine when he was 9 hours from death. My Dad died a needlessly painful and lonely death because the Vitas staff couldn't see what I saw very clearly - and I have no healthcare background whatsoever. Use Cornerstone instead. They have their own issues, but are way better than Vitas. read more

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR LOVED ONES TO BE CARED FOR BY THIS COMPANY. I used this company personally after leaving the hospital. Lack of organization is an understatement. The very first night I had a person who was subbing in for my team come to the house. After a FaceTime with a Dr. I was prescribed medication for the pain only to find out a week later from another Dr. that this should never have been prescribed to me because it is bad for my liver (THE WHOLE REASON I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL AND UNDERWENT SURGERY). My wound opened up and I was bleeding through bandages and needed help. I called and 3 hours later and multiple phone calls still no one showed up so a family friend had to take me to the hospital which completely defeats the purpose of having 24/7 service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a deep need to visit you on their timeline and schedule and no real care for when YOU need it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had someone try to set up an appointment day of because they 'were in the area and just wanted to stop by'.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I needed medical services and that takes a back seat to repetitive questions and multiple individuals asking questions as if they have no filing system so best of luck they will remember what meds you are on without a new person asking for yet another complete rundown of what you are taking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. I am not on here rating this because I am upset. I am rating this so that a loved one is not lost in their stupid system and suffers needlessly in pain. I would never nor will ever recommend this company. Their industry is pain mediation and you will spend more time telling them what you already told 5 other people then them actually caring for you. Still waiting on the medical equipment I requested VITAS. I hope someone has the time and patience to sue the hell out of you guys but until then all I can do is warn people how truly useless you have been when all I needed was some bandages and minor medical equipment but sure I guess I'll go fetch those things which makes you obsolete and grossly unneccessary and overpaid. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Horrile Horrible Horrible Company![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had my dad in rehab, post hospital, in Wauchula, Florida. Initally placed in isloation, the employees were not properly trained and were afraid to care for him. After, he was placed in a regular room, but never given a room mate in over a month. He is an extrovert, so you can imagine how bored and depressed he got. I had a plan of care meeting early on and he lost ten pounds immediately. The care of plan nurse blamed the IV liquids in hospital. Following, after numerous complaint about food and medication given with apple sauce (the RN would not allow my dad to take medicines slowly, but threw them all in the apple sauces, making the whole thing bitter). The Dietician tried to work with us, but the food availabe was terrible. For instance, one meal was: chocolate pudding that looked weird, chicken noodle soup (which my dad ate), a huge pile of potatoe salad (which he ate half), an ice cream (which I later learned was a protein source - My dad doesn't like ice cream - and has dairy sensitivity), two pieces of well cooked/hard toast with one slice of ham and one slice of chess (I wouldn't be able to eat). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Physical Therapy Manager had an bad attitude in every conversation. He was defensive[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. My dad couldn't do PT becasue the food was so bad. He lost over 18 pounds in 32 days. We had to take my dad home and put him in hospice so he could eat again. They sent him home without a shower (7 days without a shower) and with an in ability to swallow because of medications scratching his throat. read more

My mother-in-law was really cared for with great affection and attention by the entire Vitas team. The AIDS, nurses, and the Crisis Care staff were all spectacular. I would especially like to thank Elizabeth, who came to bathe her 3 times a week. And to the nurse who was with us the night she passed away. He was very caring and competent. Actually, genuinely and passionately care about their clients and the families providing for their clients! I want to thank whoever hired my nurse and my social worker because it shows that they cared about who they were employing and sending to deal with people not necessarily going through the easiest of times! So thank you for everything and with what this company does and I would give a 15 star review if it allowed me!! I do not recommend them. we had Advent Health with another family member and we had no problems. I wanted to take a moment to recap the issues I encountered with Vitas Hospice since my mom's enrollment in August. Initially, there was only one visit from the social worker, and we did not receive any visits from a chaplain or spiritual advisor. After my mom had a fall, the doctor recommended a CT scan to rule out internal bleeding. I took her to the nearest ER, where I was informed that support would be provided, but unfortunately, no one showed up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In early August, I was introduced to a nurse named Jennifer, but she left the company shortly thereafter. Since then, I have repeatedly called to have a new nurse assigned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After three weeks of calls, I was informed that a trainee named "J" would be my mom's nurse. However, "J" did not provide regular visits, and each week, we saw a different nurse, often just filling in. One nurse even mentioned she couldn't refill medications because that responsibility fell to the regular nurse--who, after three weeks, still hadn't been assigned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service has felt very impersonal. I often spoke with the call center, which simply forwarded messages to staff, leaving the nurses with very limited information.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In October, I had a conversation with the team manager, who apologized and assured me that the issues would be resolved, but they never were. This has left me feeling that I cannot trust what they say. The company seems to be improvising daily, and their responses often come off as superficial and deflective. The only consistent caregiver was "L" who provided much-needed assistance with my mom's showers. I learned that to add an additional day to my mom's care schedule, a nurse needed to evaluate her first. This was not what I was told initially and does not align with the company's portrayal of its services. Overall, the service has been impersonal, filled with nice speeches but lacking meaningful action. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had previously reached out on October 14 and received an apology, yet as of today, November 4, I have not received any follow-up communication.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This further underscore the lack of commitment to providing quality care. Additionally, I encountered issues with medication coverage (***) and when I requested a telehealth consultation after my mom experienced low blood pressure, I was told that was not possible. Lab work was also denied, with the explanation that it is uncommon at this stage, despite my concerns about my mom's medication adjustments. For these reasons, as my mom's advocate, I have decided to transition to State of Florida Hospice Care. I cannot recommend Vitas to any family member, neighbor, or friend. read more

Before you read this, I want you to know my mother passed in August of 2021 and its now 2-22-23. I waited all this time to be sure I was being fair in my feelings before speaking. I am thoroughly and honestly going to give my opinion on services received. My mother was in an assisted living her last two months, and she chose Vitas Hospice care for her end of life care. Once a week an evaluation would be done by an RN, and " things recorded". No one ever called me, I was her caretaker of ten years while she lived in my home. I requested information and phone calls, and NEVER got them. No one was coming in to bathe her, clean her or change her clothing, it was always me. I came daily, morning, lunch and after work to care for her. Family flew in from out of state to sit with her and one night when they showed up at 7pm found the nurse sleeping in my moms chair with her book on her lap. They sent me a photo of the nurse and her name tag. I called and they assured me this would not happen again. It did happen again, this time it was me that walked in to find another nurse sleeping and I asked her to leave. She explained that she works two jobs and only gets four hours of sleep at night. My mother kept falling and I ask for a fall pad, I ask for this for three weeks. One night I was called in the middle of the night to be told she had fallen very hard (no fall pad) and I rushed to find her lifted into the bed and barely able to speak and confused. The nurse finally arrived and "called an ambulance" to take her to the hospital. This angered the ambulance drivers and the ALF as they were under the understanding a Hospice Patient is NOT sent to the ER. She insisted however. We sat for four hours, until and angry ER doctor confronted me as to why on earth a Hospice patient was sent to the ER at all? He refused to treat her, because she was on Hospice. We were distraught, upset and so frustrated. My mother was not eating because she choked on food, so I requested a pureed meal and Boost like shakes for her. Two weeks and nothing came , while we bought them ourselves and I pureed food at home. The ALF could not make any changes to her diet without their authorization, but they were to busy evaluating new patients to take care of ones already established. She was impacted with feces and constipated and cried in pain, but it took almost a week for the nurse to make her" usual rounds" to put in an order. In the mean time, as a retired nurse I took care of this myself. In the almost nine weeks we were on Hospice Care with Vitas, they did nothing they said they would. CNAs didn't show up to bathe her, no one combed her hair or put lotion on her, only me, day after day while trying to hold down a full time job. There was one nurse towards the end that we could count on, she was the only good thing they offered and she was full of compassion and kindness. We requested full time care in her last week, they wouldn't give it more than 24 hours, so again we flew in family for coverage. When she became imminent I stayed around the clock for days and one evening when I went home to bathe, eat and rest, I ask the nurse to call me if there were any changes at all. I returned 5 hours later and my mother was chain stoke breathing, or better known as a Death Rattle had begun. The nurse that was there said when she arrived the night nurse had left early for a family matter and didn't relay any information to her. My mother passed away three hours later. We couldn't have the funeral home come for her until Hospice came and gave a time of death, not the actual time of death, but whatever time THEY showed up. Two and a half hours later Vitas came. After care didn't exist. All their pretty brochures with promise of having a teddy bear sewn from her clothes, to a chaplain that would check on us , to counseling, NONE OF IT HAPPENED. I even called and ask for services. No call back at all. Then on her one month of having passed they sent a condolence from the corporate offices, wishing us well and thanking us for choosing Vitas. I hate that we had to fight so hard to get any of their attention and the staff was constantly a no-show or sleeping. I hate that the ALF was not allowed to decide anything without them, but most of all I was robbed of spending the last waking hours my mom might of had because no one called to tell me to drop everything and get back when there were changes. I have so many regrets from this. This was perhaps the most unkind treatment she could have received in her ending of life. They showed no compassion, no obligation and she was only a number on their roster. Very sad thing " Vitas". This is where a Vitas representative will leave a kind comment on my post and apologize, but, you cant change this and she is gone now. read more

my husband was in Osceola hCA hospital and Vitas hospice was a referral from the hospital. my husband was in ICU, when we decided to let him go because he was suffering. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The representative we met with originally was very nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were told that the ICU nurses would become the hospice nurses., the nurses were very helpful and very caring. around 3 AM in the morning we were told they needed my husband's ICU room for an incoming patient so we would have to move rooms, the room, they moved us to the smallest hospital room I have ever been in, we had many family members that wanted to be with my husband while , he made his journey, they had one recliner and one chair in the room, we had to get our own chairs from the family room so the others could sit down. it was very uncomfortable to say the least. The nurses on this floor, we're supposed to become the hospice nurses, my sister is a retired ICU nurse, my husband was scheduled to have palliative drugs(morphine etc) every two hours , we had to chase down the nurses every two hours so my husband could have his medication. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did not find these Nurses caring or concerned in anyway, they never asked us how we were doing if & we needed anything, they never smiled, and they almost acted like they were doing us a favor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] needless to say we were not happy with the service we received after he was moved out of ICU. Korea and Vietnam war veteran only not breathing for like 30-40 seconds at a time! I made contact with them at noon. It's nine hours later, and still nobody has arrived and nobody has called to say that anyone is coming. Way to support the caregivers! Way to let the patient transition comfortably' Unresponsive, unreliable and inconsistent. We never knew when or if someone was coming. The home health, nurses, even the equipment pick up. "They are on their way" we heard a lot, then... well no one is coming today, can you make other arrangements? This meant my father, a Korean and Vietnam war veteran festered in his own filth for an extended period of time because as my mother was unable to move him and relied on Vitas to provide the promised service. After my mother was taken to the hospital with what later turned out to be Covid, my father began having breathing distress. The aides, which had shown up that day, recommended calling a nurse. We called for a nurse. Hours went by. We called back "The nurse is on the way". Hours went by. We call back again " The nurse is on the way." 12+ hours later the nurse finally shows up, says his breathing is not dangerously bad. Also they are unable to do any Covid testing, so he made a prescription for morphine. The next day the aides came in and again recommended calling a nurse. This nurse suggested sending him to the hospital as he appeared to have Covid, but that was unknown because VItas can't test for it. He's admitted to the hospital and of course that means Vitas is no longer providing "care" and they call to pick up their equipment. The appointed day and time come and there is no phone call and no one shows up(what has become expected). Still waiting on equipment pick up after calling today and being told the pick ups do not usually start until after 4 pm which was never communicated before. read more

Just, no. The staff that actually cared for my loved one on a daily basis, I had no issues major with, which is a relief. The facility is barren and sad, but clean enough. But, the staff that was in charge of advising us that our loved one had passed away COMPLETELY failed us in every way imaginable. We were informed about their passing by way of a phone call from a friend who went to visit them and called to give us their condolences. No staff member ever called to say a word. Even after we contacted Carmen Demos, the Senior General Manager of the Central Florida region (to leave voice mails and messages with other staff members for her to return our call), we never heard from anyone. So, Vitas automatically mails a card on the one year anniversary of my loved-one's date of death...and 6 months after they die, too...and all other kinds of materials about grieving, every so often-all which serves as a poignant reminder of how much that company fucking blows and how much I miss my family member. read more

Personal attention and needs are meet Well that pretty Much Covers it. If you have a Family Member in need- I would choose them. PS. In April of 2014 my father-in-law was set up to be seen by Vitas Hospice. He and his wife were a little skeptical at first because they had never heard of them, but after the first meeting they were very impressed. The doctor and each nurse they dealt with were outstanding and soon they felt like they were family. When care was critical they were always there. They were provided the supplies and equipment needed to help my father-in-law be more comfortable. On April 18th, 2015 my father-in-law passed away. The nurse had just come on duty and, she confirmed he had expired. From that point on everything was taken care of. We can't thank them enough for all they did for him and can certainly give them the highest rating for their services. read more

I love to share good reviews but unfortunately this is not going to be one of them. We attempted to use the services for my father in law as he transitioned from this world. Unfortunately they were less than desirable in almost every sense of the word. There are a few good nurses associated with this company but they are so understaffed and ill equipped that my poor father in law in the midst of his decline started hanging up on them. They did not return calls or show up in a timely manner when we really needed their help. Luckily we had hired an out of pocket Professional HHA who recommended another company who was absolutely fabulous. So we immediately switched to them. It is hard enough on the patient and family member as they watch their loved one decline, but to deal with a company that is so inept at the one thing that they are supposed to excel at is unacceptable. read more

Vitas hospice staff took care of my Dad in his final hours. From the first coordinator who met us at the hospital, to the last nurse that was with him... everyone was wonderful. They addressed every concern and took care of everything for us, so we could concentrate on our remaining time with my Dad. Please don't use Vitas for your loved one. They are short staffed. Supplies aren't delivered when needed. Nurses don't show up when called. No one comes out to bath patient. No one is helping the caregiver. They have made this process way more stressful. No doctor ever showed up even during emergencies. They only prescribed Ativan or morphine. Horrible how they can take on a patient and don't have staff to care for them. Have some respect for the person dying. Should refer people elsewhere. So they finally show up 5 hours later after my grandmother has been having seizures all morning. Now that she is about to die people start showing up. It's too late! Why come now!?! Now we just need peace and no one so we can say our goodbyes. I came to say my goodbyes and the nurse just sits there. Why not leave the room? Then another nurse and Chaplin show up and they are just loud. Too many people now. It's COVID time. We don't need all these people now. It's too late. Please save yourself the heartache and stress. Call Adventhealth instead. I wish we had. I don't feel like any of the staff was there for us at all. They are just checking off the box. We had Vitas Healthcare In-Home service and it was it or miss with the various nurses/aides that came by. There wasn't really any scheduling and we weren't sure who the next nurse/aide would be. The doctor was fantastic and we had 2 fantastic nurse/aides. Our case manager was great and did her best in a tough situation, but all in all, what we were sold in the hospital was not what we got when we (and Vitas) came home. read more

My mother in law passed away this past Saturday. We decided on Vitas as the assisted living facility approved them as a hospice company. She was admitted to hospice three weeks before she passed. The admission nurse was very pleasant and we were hopeful all would go well. We were sadly mistaken. We had asked for pastoral care, pet therapy and music therapy. Three weeks and no one ever showed up! When going into crisis care, Jocelyn wanted her to go into a hospice facility. This would have been on the Thursday before she died. We opted to keep her in her familiar surroundings and was made to feel from this RN that we were not looking out for her best interest. She went on to tell us that she couldn't guarantee when a nurse would show up and that there would be gaps in her care. Not a very caring individual! Finally when we asked for a hospital bed, it arrived 7 1/2 hours before she died. They had scheduled pain medication that was an as needed medicine. Giving her SO much medication caused her to be incoherent, when she didn't need to be. We wanted mouth swabs, she said the CNA's carry those but she would check her car. After about an hour when she had finished her paperwork, she headed down to her car and brought us some. We asked for a mask for breathing treatments, she couldn't be bothered to get us one until the facility nurse started looking into getting one for us. It did not arrive until 7:15p, she died at 9:55p. We spoke with Wendy Welsh, the GM, who apologized for everything and said she would make sure things went better...we did get the hospital bed, but after my mother in law passed, it took three days for the hospital bed and rest of the equipment to be taken away, making us clean out her apartment looking at the place where she passed away. I was called and told they would show up mid afternoon, no one showed up, then the next day between 5-7p, no show until 8:00. They left her apartment door wide open after getting the equipment, leaving all her belongings unsecured. The mattress pad and cover thrown randomly on the floor. From start to finish this was a completely unacceptable company. We had two agency nurses that cared for her, they were excellent! We also had one vitas nurse, Cantrell who was there when she passed. He was excellent! We never received a follow up phone call from Wendy, instead they took donuts to the assisted living facility to make peace with them, my mother in law and us were of no consequence! Very disappointing! This is supposed to be a HOSPICE COMPANY!! Do not subject yourselves or your family members to this! read more

My son was in Hospice Care. His nurse never did a proper assessment when she came to do home visits. His lungs had 6 liters of fluid drained. This wouldn't have gotten that far if she would've done an assessment. The nurses name is Annamaye. I don't recommend Vitas. And they ordered excessive equipment and medication that he didn't need. read more

VITAS is the most caring end of life company. The staff is compassionate, knowledgable, and concerned about both patient and family. I lost my spouse who was cared for by VITAS. My Aunt was a resident at The Rehabilitation Center of Winter Park as her health declined she began receiving Hospice Service from Vitas Hospice Care. The first conversation that I had with the Vitas hospice nurse that was caring for my aunt when she was showing end of life signs and symptoms was unsettling. I asked the hospice nurse how my aunt was doing and she stated, "well she is breathing and I just cleaned out her mouth it was really nasty." I was at a loss for words as the hospice nurse showed very little compassion. read more

The worst service ever, the Doctor they send to the house very nasty attitude , and look at my mother in law like she was a waste not a people the Dr. Want to take the medication that my mother in law use , for something they offer because those was cover by then all is Money for then she is In a treatment and they said is not nee it for her in other words they want us to live it a bed to die , and the nurses that come to the house just show ones and tell me we have to give here the shakes not give her food like we do we make baby food for her whit the food we make and there "suggestion" was no because if she eat food she can be at the program that's funny ,well over all this people is all about the money not the care read more

Vitas always argues with the patient and family. My spouse is in constant pain and they show no compassion. You are treated like you are on trial. If you complain they will punish you. By not refilling medications when they are supposed to be refilled. We've called at night couple of times and the nurses couldn't don anything because of Dr. Julius Garner. If I was you I wouldn't go through Vitas. Team 194 is the worst out of the teams available from my experience. read more

Bad service, staff never show up in timely manner, just excuses all the time. They did not return calls, take for ever to find a place for my Mom, and when they find a place was a bad one. Finally I do it myself, find a good place and fire them. Don't hire this people, You gonna regret it. read more

Thank God for Vitas Hospice Care and for Dr. Denise Clark. I can't say enough about the level of care my Mom received in her last months here. From the very beginning Dr. Denise Clark and Vitas exceeded our expectations, even though my my Mom was reluctant to go on Hospice care. At the end of her time they made everything easy for my family and I allowing us to focus on her while they managed all medications, ordered round the clock care and had necessary equipment delivered. Dr. Denise Clark kept in constant contact with us, going out of her way to make sure everything was handled. I would recommend Vitas and Dr. Denise Clark to anyone with a friend or family member going through or researching end of life care. Thank you so much Vitas and Dr. Clark for all you did.
