On my recent visit here we noticed some Okies on the Oklahoma side doing donuts in the sandy shore and trying to do some not so awesome jumps in their Suburban, bottoming out, and getting stuck in the sand every now and then. The Suburban definitely did not have four wheel drive. This was a good show because all of us Texans on our side of the river were hoot'n when they'd occasionally got stuck. Sigh... Had to add buying more to the growing RV needs list. The park was well maintained. The trailheads have limited parking. We drove around until we found one on trail 9. There are 14 or more trails and they seem to create a loop. We hiked 3 miles and called it a day. The trails sometimes needed better signage. I liked the vast amount of picnic areas. This park is well off the main steers creating a quiet place to enjoy. I mean, I heard speed boats during our hike, but that didn't spoil my solitude.

Where do I begin! We spent 4 hours there today and easily could have spent more. By far the best…read morepumpkin patch that includes other family activities. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. We went on a wagon ride and saw all sorts neat animals and learned about them from the guide. We rented fishing poles ($5) and went fishing in the stocked pond. We played with young antelopes, found turtles, and hunted for frogs and snails. We jumped in a canoe and paddled around the small lake. Stand up boards, kayaks and peddle boats are also available (unfortunately the peddle boats were out of commission today). We played sand volleyball, badminton, shuffleboard and horse shoes. Face painting, bounce houses and snacks all available too. A few more games were up on the deck as well as ducklings to pet. A wonderful way to spend the day with the family. We'll definitely be back!

Four words: HIRE A FISHING GUIDE!…read more Epic day on Lake Texoma, catching plenty of Stripers! Our fishing guide, RANDY, put us on fish from the get go. He knows this lake, inside and out. We had originally called another company (that advertises obnoxiously here - couldn't escape their ads). When we called, they were all booked up for weeks. I decided to look on Google maps to find other guides nearby. So glad we did!!! "Adventure Texoma" (not to be confused with another place with a very similar name!) popped up. Mark answered the phone, had availability when we wanted to book, and said we'd be with Randy. Easy-peasy. We showed up with our $12 Lake Texoma fishing licenses (acquired in town), and Randy supplied everything thing we needed to fish! We had 6 poles in the water for the most part, and lost count of fish, but it's tied over a dozen a piece! My husband also caught a good sized catfish (our largest fish of the day)! I also caught a freshwater drum, and the largest striper of the day! We agreed to call it a draw. Decided to catch and release them all. Probably should have kept one of the bigger stripers. Nevertheless, what a fun and fulfilling day! We we comfortable, and Randy is an easy guy to talk to. Thanks for everything!

In case you're wondering about which way to go on the trail, because it goes both north and south from the park, please please go north. We didn't know any better and decided to go south, figuring we'd go around a half mile, get to the end, turnaround, and hit the rest. Well, the trail now connects to another trail on the south side of 121. If you're planning to walk to the south end and turn around, you've got a long way to go. After a mile going south, we turned around. The south stretch (most of which isn't actually Taychas) isn't shady and honestly isn't that great. However, the north stretch of Taychas trail from the park was very nice. Much more shade and available trash cans (for throwing away dog poop bags you carried along your southern journey). Unfortunately, we ran out of time and didn't get to see the northern end, but we will...next time when we decide to go north instead of south!

There were a lot of folks out and camping. The park is about 10k acres sitting in the start of the Arbuckle Mountains. Great day trip.

We love this state park. Very quiet and peaceful with nice hiking trails. We fell in love with the…read morepig and goat at the "petting zoo". However, we were VERY disappointed in two things: 1) The cabins are old and unkept. We had a hole in the wall near the front door and daylight showing under the front door. The entire cabin was filled with ants. They were on the floor, walls, and ceiling. Every hour I was running around squashing ants. We had to hang everything on hooks/hangers or leave it in the car. Water leaked from underneath the tile in front of the shower. The staff said the State has the money to renovate, but they keep delaying it. So sad to lose customers because they won't spend the money to update it. 2) The pet fee is $40 per day per pet. We had 2 dogs totaling 22 pounds. There was NO extra work on behalf of the staff after we left. Most place charge a deposit that is refundable if there is no damage. They should review their pet policy and consider reducing or eliminating the fee and instead having a refundable deposit. With $80/night for the dogs and $110+ for the cabin, we could have stayed in a nice VRBO home with a fenced backyard and without bugs.
