I can't say enough good things about the nursing staff. Between my husband, my mom and me all having been GS patients in the last few years for various reasons , I was so impressed with the quality of care and the empathy from all the people we all interacted with. My only issue during the stays, and this can be worked around, was their food. Positively abysmal and not at all even healthy. Seems such a great hospital need to up their game in that department. I had a day surgery here in March 2026, and it was my first visit to this hospital. I have never in my life had such a good experience in any medical facility, much less a hospital. Every single person I encountered along the way was super friendly, helpful, and kind. They explained every single step of the process in detail and were very quick and efficient. I left the hospital in very little pain and they followed up with me a couple days later to see how I was doing. My father was recently admitted and diagnosed with an aorta blockage. Due to his age surgery was not an option. Both cardiologist assigned to him were brutally honest. And I don't use the word brutally to be glib. At what point in your career does one become so desensitized that respect for dying patients and their families become the norm? For a patient alert, aware and hopeful to be told we can't help you so you need to go home to die acceptable bedside manner. Two separate doctors with neither displaying an ounce of compassion or kindness to my dad or our family. Shame on them. read more

IN MY OPINION; went to the ER with numerous urgent symptoms. After 6+ hours in the waiting room and then 6 hours in an ER room I was sent home with UNDIAGNOSED HEART FAILURE BY DR TODD BANNAN. First I was told that I would be admitted and then at 3AM Dr BANNAN popped his head ( yes just his head) in my doorway and said, "I didn't find anything so you can go home." No discussion no expiation no diagnosis. Found out later he diagnosed me with ACUTE ASTHMA! I have chronic asthma and have been on inhalers for years which was mentioned to Dr BANNAN, floor nurse, techs...everyone who came into my room. After consulting with my cardiologist, he said that should never have been released. read more

Most staff is very kind and wonderful. Always with a minute to help. Kind loving and supportive. We are in a bad spot and they take the time to help and listen. read more

In the past 8 years, I have spent more than 50 nights at Good Shepherd. I am always treated well and I always leave with easy to follow "home instructions". My care has always been great. The hospital is clean and it seems very well organized. The food isn't terrible and they are always super fast bringing it to the room. I also go to the hospital for support meetings which are always informative and sometimes even fun. read more

My sister spent almost a month in intensive care and and she received fabulous care from hard-working, thoughtful nurses and doctors.

It almost impossible to talk to a real person when you call them. I have filled out all the necessary forms to get a copy of my X-rays since the report from their radiologist was so general it was not helpful to my PT or pain management physician! According to their website I should have heard from them by now so I could pick up my X-rays. I thought it was insane I had to wait 5 days to get them to begin with!!!! Now that 5 days have gone by it''s crickets! No texts, emails or return phone calls! This is my medical information and I am entitled to it. I am no longer going to use any advocate services!!!! ER doctor was nice but overworked and sparse with attention. But the billing nightmare that ensued assured total incompetence of management staff and terrifies me and should you. Any hospital this incompetently run cannot be a safe place! Four months now I've been fighting their ignorance to no avail! Now today, suddenly they can't discuss it any further with me because they lost my wife's permission to discuss the treatment I held her through receiving! I was present in ER but billing cannot discuss charges with me? Shady? She had to sign the release every time we went to the hospital because they can't find any previous paperwork? Both times I have gone to to Advocate Good Shepherd the experience was phenomenal. All of the staff members were very kind and I felt like they really cared about me as a person versus so many other places that just treat you like a "number". My experience in the ER recently was seamless and I was in and out in a little over an hour. Would highly recommend this hospital if you need medical care! read more

Used to be a great hospital. Lately, they are the last place I would go in an emergency. Between horrible care on a floor with barely any staff and the billing nightmare that ensued afterwards, this place should be rated a zero. Person in billing office is extremely rude. Hospital claims it is my insurance fault for the bills coding and my insurance says it is the hospitals coding that was sent in and not their issue. Passing the buck seems to be the norm here! Send everything to them in writing with proof of delivery is my only advise if you get hooked into having to deal with this place. Be warned.... they have contracted with all area surrounding doctors so that if your insurance has "tiered" network and you get admitted for an emergency, you have ZERO Balance Billing protections because in their eyes "noone is out-of-network" and you get stuck paying huge bills that you had no choice in who you were seeing. Way to go Advocate, for figuring out how to circumvent federal surprise billing protections for consumers! read more

Staff lingering at nurses station feeding information into computers until family members point out the persistent ringing alarms on monitors. Lots of technology. Little time or energy for care. My friend went to ER with chest discomfort, during his stay he saw Dr.Kanji. Dr. Kanji was excellent. He was thorough, explaining and answering questions. In addition, Dr Kanji was friendly and easy to talk to. Nurse Alysi was also great, very efficient getting set up with medical equipment. frequently checking back to make sure everything was going ok. Nurse Voytek was the last nurse we saw before leaving. He too was great, friendly, helpful and thorough with any questions. The whole experience at Good Shepherd hospital from admission to discharge was a positive experience. read more

I had lymes disease I went to the Good Sheppard out paitent in Crystal lake and the PA there was like. Oh you might have. A flesh eating disease go directly to the hospital. I am calling ahead so they can quarantine you he said . So I go to the ER at Good Shepard. And immediately get a series of 8 tests , I kept saying as a self diagnosis from the internet. That I have 7 of the 7 symptoms of Lyme disease , No one wanted to believe me. I was submitted on Saturday afternoon , I spent all day there Sunday and then an infectous disease Dr came in and looked at the bite mark and says. I have Lymes disease. what the heck So know they can give me the correct antibiotics. So I have to stay over night one more night. So I stayed 2 nights. Had numerous tests and Saw 5 different drs. And the bill was over $20,000 Insurance covered it but one week later someone that I work with Had the same thing. He went. to his dr , he was given the correct antibiotic right away and was told to go home and drink pedialite. And Gatorade for a couple days and if he doesn't feel better in a couple days come back in. His total invoice was less than $200.00 he had the same bite mark as I did and his Dr recognized it immediately I do have to say that my care in the hospital was very good read more

Was supposed to leave 3 days ago. They keep coming up with new problems to keep our loved one in the hospital. These are problems that should of been taken care of on Day 1. Good luck trying to talk to a doctor. They are in the building but always seem to miss their patients. It always someone else that is relaying a message from them. Nurse Emily was very helpful but communications from staff to staff is horrible. If you want a accurate and a good experience I cannot honestly recommend you not bring your loved ones here. read more

Good facility, parking and many of the staff. I gave it a 1 star review purely due to an exceptionally poor experience with the (potentially racist) arrogant receptionist/door person - Susan (5/24/2021 at around 2.15PM). I empathize how similar negative experiences can affect the patients, visitors, and other staff. I came to the facility to accompany my friend home after a serious medical procedure. My friend had registered my name for that specific purpose. I told Susan that I am here for my friend. She didn't ask for my name but called me a liar and that I was not the person whom my friend had registered. I politely assured her that I was the person and offered to show her my ID. She refused. Again, patiently and politely, I asked her whether I could speak for a minute, and she completely ignored me and asked me to speak to another person (Rochelle). Rochelle turned out to be amazing and helpful. This initial experience where I was called a liar and refused to even speak for a minute left a bitter taste about this facility. read more

I just came from this hospital. Even though it is close to my home we really have never used it for much. I needed to go for a doplar ultrasound and I went to this hospital. From the minute I walked in there was a delightful lady who waited with me for my husband then she walk us to the elevator and gave us directions once we got off. Then the young lady who helped us at the desk was very sweet and helpful and she checked us in. Then the man who would be doing the ultrasound came to the waiting area to get us. He introduced himself (Abrar) and gave me directions as to o e to do. We chatted while he was doing the ultrasound and he was fascinating to listen too. He had so many interesting facts and really was such a delight to listen too. I was sorry when my appointment was finished. I have to say he was by far one of the most enjoyable appointments I have had in a long time. He made the test enjoyable and my time there pleasant. Thank you Abrar!! read more

if you go to see dr. sanjeev gupta at this office with a parent with dementia do not expect to be listened to by this manchild. my mother was very agitated and angry and confused and it ended being a uti. it took this clown 5 days to send in a prescription in with a positive test for an antibiotic and then refused to give her a yeast infection pill until she exhibited symptoms. you idiot she didn't even know she had a uti how the hell will she know that she has a yeast infection. do not go see this person who is a businsseman playing a doctor in his own reality. he is cruel uninformed and has no idea how much research i have done on this disease and proved him wrong with my knowledge! you are a baffoon and deserve dementia for how you treat my mother! read more

If you find yourself in the area and in the unfortunate situation of needing a hospital, Advocate Good Shepherd is the place to go. I arrived at the ER around 3AM with a moderate case of pneumococcal pneumonia and early signs of sepsis. There was no wait at all, examined right away, hooked up to IVs, and within 2 or 3 hours I was admitted into the hospital as an inpatient and brought upstairs to my own room. I ended up staying for 3.5 days, and was hooked up to what I later learned was antibiotics via IV 24/7 for almost the entire stay there. My doctor (Gong) was very professional, friendly, and seemed very knowledgeable as well without having a god complex some critisize doctors for. My parents, boyfriend, and I were impressed with him, and how the doctor, the PA/physician assistant and the nurses worked so well together as a team to diognose and treat me. They were very thorough, and in the process of a CAT scan to check for a blood clot in my lungs, I found out I have concerning nodules on my thyroid that my primary doctor had missed during physical exam. The hospital was very clean, and the majority of the staff were wonderful. The only staff I was not satisfied with were the nurse Rachel and clinical tech Toshi, whom I had during the day shift on my last 2 days (Friday and Saturday). Rachel and Toshi left me feeling like a nuisance, and a few times ignored my pages for them, despite them responding that they would be there shortly. The rest of the staff were very attentive, friendly, and checked in regularly with out me having to call for them for minor things, but not so often that it was annoying as a patient. My boyfriend and I were both impressed enough with the hospital and other staff that the nurse and tech mentioned above had minimal impact, and we have agreed we will come back to this hospital, should we ever need one again. read more

I've had numerous surgeries and doctors visits at this hospital. Recently I was diagnosed with Covid along with my fiancé having Covid. Her heart rate had dropped to 42 bpm and was advised by nursing staff at her primary care doctors office to go into the emergency room. Upon arrival she was brought into the emergency room and was seen by one nurse, the emergency room doctor, and an x-ray technician. She was discharged from this hospital and was told that everything was fine about 3 hours after coming in. (I stayed on the phone with her during her entire ER visit as obviously I was unable to go into the emergency room with her due to my own Covid diagnosis.) We received her test results for her x-ray and somehow she was diagnosed with an enlarged upper left ventricle which is a heart related concern and diagnosis which is exactly what we came into the emergency room for. She was never once seen by a cardiologist and she was never once given any type of heart test outside of an ECG and NO ONE informed her of this finding. Unfortunately I would strongly advise not going to this emergency room if you can avoid it as clearly there was a major miscommunication here that could have resulted in a much worse situation. read more

I came to Good Sheperd for an outpatient procedure and just had the absolute best experience. From the receptionist at the main entrance to all the nursing staff I had encounters with. They were all extremely patient, kind, and explained everything thoroughly. I was really nervous to be put under but Dr. Peter Wuertz was able to quickly calm me down while explaining what was going to happen. The level of care I received was amazing. I wish I remembered all the nurses that were with me throughout the day but also big thank to nurse Kellie who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! read more

He also specializes in the colon, overall, the staff is very friendly, and very efficient, you cannot go wrong truly recommend this doctor is amazing, so far so good I still have a few more weeks for a full recovery. read more

Had appointment for Heart Stress test. Did pre-check-in on line. I was first of the day. Nobody else there yet. Lady at check-in on first floor asked for Doctor order. She claimed she did not have the one that had been faxed 2 week's prior. This has happened before and they would scroll back and find it.She just said she could not let me fo test. Never checked back! During the Pre-check-in or making the date which they changed with no problem did they say they had NO ORDER! Sad,as a contractor I have worked at this Hospital. Prior to that, during a procedure a few months ago, I was given contrast dye which I am dangerously allergic to. I arrived for a 4:50 mammogram appt at 4:55 pm and was told I came to late to bee seen. The registrar "Joan" had also shared with me "she has a life too" and "had to be at a dentist appointment" so she wasn't willing to stay "late", as I was the last appointment of the day. I mentioned no one on the recorded line told me to come early, and the text confirmation also stated the 4:50 arrival time. I had driven an hour to make the appointment. Was turned away as severe chronic chronic sufferer. I was told the ER doesn't treat chronic pain. This is all just what I was told because they were discriminating against me and assuming I was trying to get opiates. Little did they know that I had all new diagnostics, which did get reviewed, and showed new issues post surgeries/ and new tear in knee and shoulder spurs. Was told I wouldn't be prescribed pain meds to go home???? Never asked or mentioned post ER care??? Discrimination is real and it happens to everyone. Thanks Bob.*** This is a relatively newer ER. I'm disappointed at the lack of cleanliness in this setting. I personally took one of their "super sani-cloths" to wipe down any surface we'd be touching. Really disturbing. You can see the blood splatter on the wall, food, dust bunnies and other medical waste. If this is clean then what's their protocol to real sanitation and what would OSHA think of this? While I appreciate Bob F's eloquent way of telling me my comments and observations were inaccurate and they are extremely busy in the ER, I think an employee private messaging me crosses the line. If GSH had an issue, they would have contacted me directly. Can I run an ER or a hospital better than its currently run? Probably not, but I sure do notice flaws and mistakes very easily. So now, after getting over the shock that a hospital employee who works in the ER private messaged me to tell me how wrong I am, I'm not revising my post to make it pretty sounding. Today I was seen for Covid in the ER. I can not tell you how wonderful they were. Dr.Michael attended to me immediately and did not treat me like I had leprosy. He and his nurses were incredible. Went for the cafeteria. Curious hospital, they have a Subway in the lobby, which I wouldn't generally regard as the healthiest food around. But they have a full time cafeteria, hard to tell if the grub is cooked on site or food service heat and eat. A couple of daily specials, a couple of sandwiches, 2-3 soups, salad bar. I've been coming here since I was about a year old (so, 34 years). This hospital is very trustworthy and dependable. It's also usually time-efficient (specifically referring to the E.R.). We've been to the E.R. here many, many times and the trips usually go very well. We usually get in pretty quickly, and have always had great doctors and nurses. I also gave birth to my son in this hospital. Besides one horrible nurse, everything was great! The hospital itself is nice and clean, and they're constantly trying to improve it. The hospital has great doctors on staff. They seem to have most of the testing and radiology equipment on location. Even after moving out of the area, I'm still willing to drive 35-40 minutes to come here over selecting a new hospital. I've always been impressed with Good Shepherd, and am definitely comfortable recommending it. read more

In June 2022 I went to the Er for a very badly infected hernia mesh , the wound tested with E.Coli I was met with such amazing nurses and Dr Salzman who took such good care of me right away and got on it they had such good bedside manner they made me feel safe. I was admitted to oncology floor , that's where I was going to stay the next 12 days little did I know . I was met with my two my nurses I call them my hero's Nicole and Melissa. They made me feel so cared for and so safe they stuck by my side and never left me I was there almost 2 weeks and their caring loving mannerisms and concern they had for me was amazing and I am forever grateful I had them to take after me. These two angels fought so hard for me when I didn't have a voice.. I wouldn't have been able to get through it without my two protectors mentally and emotionally. Then I met Dr Robin Fisher , she was my girl, she understood me and she knew all I was going through and she showed so much compassion and empathy she got things moving in the right direction . I can't forget Dr John Gong he is so compassionate he listened to all and everything I had to say and my concerns his bedside manner is so professional. My wound care specialist Amy she was nice and had such a great personality and she did everything she could to heal my wound. If it was not for Dr Wahab Brobbey Infectious disease he stepped in fast and was quick to find and get me on the proper medications and IVS to tackle the Ecoli. He has upmost respect to his patients he listens takes the time and finds the best route to take he stuck by my side until Nov when I was no longer needing him .. if it weren't for all the Doctors and nurses I listed above I don't know how I would of handled my very scary mentally emotionally and physically exhausting hospital stay. Other then for this Long hospital stay and my wonderful extended experience , I would never ever recommend Good Shepherd Hospital. This is the only good experience and every other was a nightmare . read more

I've been to Good Shepard Hospital on multiple occasions and have always had a great experience. From the time I walk through registration and going through multiple procedures, everyone has been very helpful and kind. Each person working on my procedure comes in and explains what they are going to do and answers all my questions. The nurses are wonderful and caring. read more

First let me say, that the ER was very crowded. It was around 7:00 PM and it felt more like a clinic. I brought my wife (age72) in with a complaint of elevated BP & HR, in her right neck and arm, along with blurry eyesight. The pain had been off and on all day. My RN daughter, by phone suggested I take her to the ER to check for a possible cardiac event. The triage nurse took BP and temperature but did not share the BP reading. We waited for over two hours and finally left. My personal history with a similar event (twice) was to perform an EKG and a blood test to check for heart distress markers, and monitored closely. None of that was done. No communication, we sat there and just left. No apologies or concern. Recommend a review heart related protocols and staffing. read more
