I took my father here to get an ultrasound on his legs to determine if the circulation of blood was normal. First of all the staff here were exceptional. The people at the front desk were polite and smiled as they told us where to go to get to radiology. The check-in desk at radiology had a very attentive person who was quick to welcome us and get the paperwork going. We were seen about 5 minutes after check-in and the staff in charge of setting up the testing were courteous to my father, who is hard-of-hearing. The procedure took about 1.5 hours and I was able to stay in an adjacent waiting room with a tv, which was perfect as my 3-year-old was with me. After the procedure, the nurses took us to the exit and were very complementary to my father, who fell asleep during the testing. We ended up eating at the cafeteria downstairs and left feeling positive about the entire experience. read more

Everything was mishandled, from assessment to follow-up/primary care notification, to handling of personal data. Waiting in emergency room while my moms hip is dislocated and registration comes in to ask her questions and one question is, looks like there is a $200 copay how did you want to take care of that?" While she's laying in pain with her hip dislocated. I can't believe that just happened what is wrong with people?!?!?! They don't even have a heart rate monitor on her and administered morphine. They should be monitoring her after administering any type of medication. This emergency room is so messed up and not following any type of protocol yet they make sure they have a co pay. The ER department has gone down hill. I've experienced it and other family and friends have to. The first time was a few years ago when I went in because I was experiencing a torn retina. The PA said it wasn't an emergency and sent me on my merry way. Well it turns out it is that big of a deal and I needed emergency eye surgery. The next time was when a family friend went in because they were in AFib and instead of keeping them in the hospital they sent them home, still in Afib and still in pain. read more

Went in two nights ago as a chemo patient with excessive then to give me a medication that could cause my heart It a lot more than that to me. It felt like ants were crawling up and down inside my body my legs if you have restless leg syndrome, please be careful what they give you. So I left because they did nothing else for me, but sicker. Stayed home all night slept the next was getting worse and worse so the ambulance came and took me where the nurse stuck me right next to the nurses station lights beeping monitors. I'm throwing up I'm sick. I asked politely a few could please just move me somewhere said they don't have I said OK but somewhere can you put a patient throwing up? Who could catch anything from anybody walking by me? How could you be so negligent she didn't even care that I said that I asked her to help me to the bathroom where she took me to the bathroom and left never came back to got me. I the floor by . I found where my bed was in the hallway and I did not see anybody else until I said a little louder than maybe I should have you need to get me away from here. I'm gonna go nuts. My head hurts. Everything The nausea is getting worse. loud noise is getting worse plus I could catch a number of things being on chemo. They did nothing but come back 25 minutes later or asked me to take my vitals I said I wanna go this is how I'm gonna get treated I wanna go home all I asked for a quieter place with not so much so of course I my voice a little then this other nurse charge nurse whatever I don't know who she was because neither of them introduced themselves to me, stuck her finger in my face and told me you may not talk to my nurses that way while she was loud at me had a patient who felt like they were dying. This is the third horrific experience I've had at this hospital. I really hope this time somebody actually calls me back and watches the that are in the emergency room. They lied about the times because I looked at my chart because I kept looking at my phone. I called my girlfriend to come and get they told me to get out. They didn't want me to wait for my friend to come get me. I started walking. They called security on me a person who has not lost in a week over 7 pounds from vomiting and not eating anything to wear that Security guy brought me outside in the waiting room full of sick patients and actually did help me to go to the bathroom where I was lying on the floor throwing up by myself again if Sherman Hospital ever does anything about this maybe some things will change about the emergency room. This is the third time that I've been like nothing because I'm a sick helpless person on chemo who got upset because they wouldn't listen to me at all. She came in 25 minutes earlier to take my vitals no doctor saw me. No patient care specialist call me. Nobody saw me. Oh, I'm sorry somebody did see me the registration who asked me for money both times that's what this hospital has come down to. It's all about their money. Don't care about people anymore. I am actually thinking about moving out of this area just to get away from this hospital. If there was a zero star I could give I would give it a zero 1000% a zero. read more

They're transparent and the time under their care doesn't feel rushed or like the conversation is over your head. My father passed away last night at Sherman Hospital. Despite having 7 kids, I was the only one by his side, along with a nurse named Chris. He was exactly the kind of support I needed during this emotional experience. He was soft spoken and kind and present. I think I even caught him getting emotional. Anyway Chris, if you ever come across this review, keep doing what you are doing. You're good at it. Above and beyond all 6 of my non-present siblings could have ever been. Went to the ER with chest pains at 6:30 am, they got me in right away, did an EKG, got me to an ER bed. Cardiologist came in, we discussed my symptoms, he scheduled me for an angioplasty that afternoon. I was in the hospital overnight and went home the next day. Entire staff was great. I had a terrible experience here during COVID, but when I tell you I had the best experience here during my recent hospitalization...it was a complete 180. Emergency Room wasn't crowded, and was efficient. That's the one item that could set the tone for the visit. My review focuses more on admission. The 5th floor is full of super kind and compassionate staff, nurses, nurse assistants, volunteers, housekeepers and nutrition team. They were responsive and caring. My MIL was admitted a week and a half ago. They treated her with such dignity:) I must say, with a couple pushy, borderline pushy/rude family members the nurses handling it so well. She did end up in hospice and again the grace and dignity of how they treated her was beyond expectations. They worked with the family up until the end and we are so grateful! read more

BEWARE they will don't follow what was approved by insurance and will charge you 10s of thousands of dollars without you even knowing. Do not use this hospital if you have any other choice. My wife needed to have surgery, which was pre-approved. My wife paid the 2,000 before the surgery. After the surgery it was found that the hospital changed one of the instruments for the surgery that the health insurance company would not cover. My wife has been on the phone with either the hospital or insurance for over 4 hours the past couple weeks. At the end she got the insurance and hospital on a call. Basically the hospital when cornered stated she signed a paper that she would cover any and all charges that insurance would not cover. This has come up to 14,000 dollars. Since they feel they don't need to follow what is approved I guess we are lucky it is not a lot more. BEWARE they can charge you anything and not tell you. read more

Avoid Sherman hospital! Their ER let a 91-year-old suffer in pain instead of providing a correct diagnosis until the 4th ER visit. On 2/8, my Mom fell and was in lots of pain on the upper right side of her leg, My Dad took her to the ER because she couldn't walk. They gave her an x-ray of her leg and a CT of her head. Note: she never fell on her head. After that all the doctor would say is that she was in a "grey area". He said this several times and never made a decision. My parents got the paperwork and left after seven hours! On 2/13, my Dad took her back to the ER because the pain was still there. They did another Xray and several other tests for a UTI. She was then checked into the Hospital. The next morning when my Dad went to her room they were treating her for UTI only. He complained, because he brought her in for the pain in the upper part of her right leg, not a UTI. A UTI can be treated at home. The hospital sent up a specialist to explain to my Dad that a UTI can cause legs to get very painful and weak at times. All the doctors and the specialist said her legs should get better after the treatment and sent her home on the 16th. On 2/18 (2 days later) my parents returned to the ER and my Mom got an X-ray and other tests. Guess what??? They said she had UTI again! The nurse that was treating her was NOT very sensitive to her pain and she kept pushing her around. My Mom would swear and tell them it hurts like hell!!!! But the nurse still didn't care! The doctor then checked her out and told my Dad to pick up a prescription at Osco and that would take care of the problem. And get this...the prescription that they sent to Osco is NOT recommended by the FDA for people over 70. As mentioned above, she is 91 which last I checked is older than 70. On 2/25, my Dad took her back to the ER for the 4th time. She was in immense pain, and it was getting worse. Finally, they got a doctor with a brain, The first thing he said was she will get an x-ray and then a CT scan. Right after the x-ray, the doctor revealed she had a broken hip AND on the 2/8 ER visit they x-rayed the wrong leg!!! The surgeon was there within a few minutes and just shook his head in disgust. He said it had to have been broken on our last visit and was not happy with what my parents went through in the previous ER visits. After all this, she had surgery the next day. My 91-year-old mother was in extreme pain for 17 days of because of apathy AND incompetence!!! If any of the first three doctors had stayed awake in medical school, they would have caught it without an x-ray or would have x-rayed the correct leg! The Mayo clinic states that the top three symptoms of a hip fracture: 1. Inability to get up from a fall and walk 2. Sever pain in the hip. 3. Inability to put weight on the leg. Everything they told the first three doctors in ER. However, all they came up with was symptoms for UTI. Just think if this happened to you or someone you love. It's pathetic how the first 3 doctors handled my Mom's case!!! read more

As a recent inpatient I have nothing but the highest praise for the hospital from the Emergency Department to the nurses and techs on floor 4, and floor 6. My wife and I just had our 2nd Covid vaccination at Advocate Sherman Hospital. The process was smooth and the people friendly. The signage is clear and well placed. Guides are posted at strategic locations to help anyone who has questions. Chairs are available for anyone with difficulty standing on line. (There isn't much standing because of smart scheduling.) Clean restrooms are nearby. The gift shop and grill have beverages and snacks. All in all, the process was as pleasant and efficient as it could be. Thanks Advocate! read more

No issues... had to go to the ER because i had severe pelvic pain. I recently had surgery so i worried. Turns out i have a uti and kidney stones. I'll thank covid for EMPTYING out hospitals as im like the only one here. I was in and out of my ct scan, everything was done FAST. Going home now. Took about 4hrs to be checked in, blood work, urine sample, ct scan, and get my results. Not too mad about that. Most of my visits take all day or end up overnight. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and I had the worse experience with the most unprofessional "dr Epstein". I have anxiety attacks triggered by pain and I have Hyperemesis gravidarum I haven't been able to eat or drink anything without keeping it down. I was in so much pain today due to the constant vomiting and they brought me up to a room. I had an anxiety attack because the pain I was having was unbearable, I refused anxiety meds as I always do because of how it makes me feel. That doctor wasn't here all day and didn't see the pain I was in for himself or at least didn't see him until 8:45pm. When he arrived to my room he told me "don't come back to this hospital until you're ready to act like an adult" what type of doctor could say that to someone? Very unprofessional and I will never come back here and I will tell everyone on my social media if they need any medical attention without wanting to feel like less of a person because the doctor is immature and inappropriate and does not care for his patients. I have personally used Advocate Sherman 4x for an emergency and one time for my husband. We go here because our MD is in the Advocate network and it is just easier for sharing data for follow-up appointments. I have no complaints about the care. The nursing staff are attentive and well trained. They have been very efficient in treating you and getting you on your merry way. My only "comments" are that there are too many P.A.'s and not enough doctors on staff. Also, I am in month 11 fighting with both Advocate and my insurance company about improper documentation for being admitted and having emergency surgery. My husband called the insurance company when we learned I was being whisked away for surgery, and we were assured the hospital knows how to handle the insurance piece. Apparently, they do not because proper documentation still has not been submitted, and I continue to get calls from their crabby bill collectors. I have been on several 3-way calls listening to the two sides talk and every time it turns out that the parties agree that Advocate failed to submit something. Its a pressure a patient should NOT have to deal with. Get your crap together and make sure you're not to blame before you send your patients to collections. Simple really... read more

I was admitted to sherman hospital after being in the ER for 10 HOURS. the nurses admitted me were kind but that was the end of any kindness or compassion. I was admitted for severe headache, left eye droopy with blurred and double vision. The gave me medication in the ER for the pain that I had told the staff in ER and on the floor I hullicinated from that drug they gave it anyway and hullicinate I did, it was horrible scarry. I met wit Dr.sohal Patel, neurologist. Who maybe said 40 words to me the entire time I was there. He was so rude, condensing, simple hateful. Told me nothing was wrong after having scans done. That I should go home regardless of the pain I was in. I asked for pain medication many times (note to self, don't ask a doctor or a nurse for pain med no matter the pain as you'll be judge and become a "drug seeker." Yes we heard nurses GiGi and Mr Patel discussing this in the hallway. The one night nurse who was male was one of the worse I've ever had or maybe the nurse who refused to help me get my MRI results, told me to wait til the morning. I was so scarred and I knew something was wrong with me. She finally said she'd page my doctor but the next morning my doctor said " I was never paged." The care I received was a nightmare. Mr Patel also wrote in my patient portal that I am "a potential drug seeker," without discussing with my primary medical doctor (who couldn't believe it was documented and was angry,) nor did Mr Patel review any of my past medical history or review my prescription history as there is nothing there of me being a drug seeker. There has been an investigation supposedly done for Dr Patel and nurse GiGi but refused to give me the specifics of the investigation. After leaving Sherman we went to another doctor, optomologist neurologist, who did find the problem in my MRI, in the brain stem area. I have been treated kindly, this doctor spent hours with me and my husband explaining what was going on and treating me. But this doctor said it can happen it again and I'd have to return to an ER. There's no way I'd go to an ER, it's no longer an ER when waiting 10 hour from the time I got there to the time I got to my room. These hospitals will no longer allow your MD to direct admit bypassing the ER. This is about the patients money as now ER gets paid and the ER doctor knows they'll admit the patient because of patients medical doctor has given them a heads up. I spent 4 hours in the hallway of the ER because there was no rooms being ignored. They wouldn't listen to me and just checked for a heart attack even though I knew that wasn't the issue. Kept me overnight. They never even gave me a gown to change into or toiletries. I had to sleep in the clothes I wore to work that day. Then they just sent me home without addressing the issues that brought me there in the first place. They told me to follow up with my doctor. REALLY! I gave them my insurance information when admitted. Now 8 months later they have me in collections. I called with my insurance rep on the line and talked to a manager at Sherman and he stated that my insurance is not contracted so they will not submit claims to them. Instead they have to submit them to me and then I have to submit to my insurance. They asked if I wanted to do a payment plan. I told them NO, I HAVE INSURANCE! My rep asked if they could do a courtesy hold since it would take time for me to get the claims in the mail, send to my insurance and have processed. They told me NO, it isn't Advocate's policy! Needed a trip to the ER for a minor injury for my spouse, and Sherman is now the closest hospital to where we live. I've been to this location twice, once for the birth of my best friend's baby, and once for this ER visit. The labor and delivery unit of the hospital was beautiful- with great private rooms and high security (though I was a visitor only). The ER was busy when we arrived, but we were in and out in 2 hours- which is great in my mind since it was a weekend and nothing else was open. The staff was extremely friendly and moved at a good pace (though it was definitely not quick). The Physican's assistant we saw had a great sense of humor and made the whole process better. We had to "share" our room with another patient which was tough since he was in a lot of pain and was very loud- but that was the only negative of our experience (other than needing to use an ER of course). read more

Took husband who is immune-compromised to your ER. This facility was extremely professional from entrance through release. Immediately registered him and had vitals within a few minutes. ER was clean and calm. Visitors were limited to registration and wait outside as clearly their focus is on patient care. Husband was thoroughly supported and diagnosed in under 2 hours. Outstanding after recently seeing another ER facility in deplorable conditions that did allow visitors. We've now witnessed both sides of the spectrum of our healthcare system. I just brought my wife home from the ER, and we are again grateful to the staff for their kind and excellent care. Sherman has saved my wife's life twice in the past two years, and they have saved the life of one of my daughters who has severe asthma during pregnancy. I am saying this literally, not metaphorically. The level of care and professionalism is very high. My wife spent 18 days there three years ago, 9 in intensive care, and in all that time we were treated with understanding, compassion, and most important, by nurses and physicians who are excellent. The rapid response team save my wife's life so she could get to emergency surgery; I cannot praise them enough. I was able to stay with my wife in her room every night, and was never made to feel as if I was in the way. We have nothing but praise for Sherman. read more

I have an appointment here today was a little nervous with covid going around. But was put at ease soon as walked in door .Temp check questions. Everyone very nice.The only thing I saw was people sitting where a sign said for social distance don't sit here.Might need it in Spanish also so we all know.All over hospital language for English, and Spanish so a sign would be good on the seats.Also saw a couple of visitors with mask below nose.Saw a sign saying we will help you if not have right one.These are just things I noticed.Staff was amazing just things I saw .Anyone coming to hospital for visit or exam etc should need a mask covers nose and mouth read more

I was seen at the ER on 11/4 of last year. Because my family had already reached our out of pocket maximum, I received NO bills related to this visit. Fast forward to 4/3 this year, and I just received a notice from a collection agency that 1) I owe $18.21 and 2) this unpaid debt has been reported to the collection agency. Oh, and as luck would have it, my wife and I are in the process of applying for a mortgage for a new home. Thank you so much, Advocate Sherman Hospital, from the bottom of my heart for the headache that this is going to cause me. To recap: 1) my family at this point on 11/4 had already met our out of pocket maximum, so I was never billed this amount since my BCBS insurance had covered it, 2) I NEVER received a bill for this amount from you, and if you check your billing records, I have never once been late on a bill from you which includes when I was in the ER in 2015 and when my son was born there also in 2015, and 3) you sent my bill to a collection agency and reported this to the credit bureau for $18.21. I'm trying not to be snippy or obnoxious here, but this is just horrendous customer service on your part. Your billing is incorrect since I should not have owed this amount, and you never even reached out to me for the bill. Shouldn't there have been at least a 2nd notice? I do not recommend the ER at this location. I went here and was unable to walk, most likely from a disc bulge, herniation or spinal stenosis and my insurance company and primary dr recommended that I was admitted because I still was in a lot of pain and was still unable to walk and they needed to admit me in order to do an MRI. They pumped me up with pain medicine and handed me some crutches and kicked me out the door! I am still in pain and I am now having to work on getting an MRI and it's probably going to take at least 2 weeks to get it scheduled and approved by the insurance company! Time wasted as I sit here in pain and missing out on work, but they don't care! If I would have been admitted my insurance company would have paid for the MRI and I would have had a diagnosis and I would be on way to figuring out what my next steps would be! read more

After 22 years of coming to Sherman Hospital to get mammograms I will now be switching locations. I always came in and went right to Women's Health and would check in and be ready to roll. In and out. Not anymore. Now you have to sign in at the radiology registration desk that is 10 deep. They take your name and you sit until they can get to you. There is literally one desk to check in and 12 people in front of me. My appointment is in 5 minutes and I have been sitting here for awhile now. My next complaint is that the waiting room is right next to the desks that are doing the registration. I know everyone's name, birthdate, what test they are having and whether they fasted.
