They recently moved to a new location under a mile away from old one. I had my annual physical scheduled on April 26 and the office didn't inform me of their move to a new address so I arrived at the wrong address. After realizing the office is not there anymore I called them and they gave me the new address. By the time I arrived the new place I got 7 minutes late. The old lady at the front desk refused to give me the service and didn't let me see the doctor. This was quite disappointing for me as I had waited for this appointment for over 2 months and I had taken half day off from work due to my appointment. My primary physician is Mike Melnick who I have been seeing for many years but I am not going back to this place again and trying to find a different practice. The old white lady at the front desk was very rude and treated me with disrespect. I assume she is racist towards people of color. I am quite disappointed and am going to report this incident to BBB, Federal Trade Commission, Illinois Attorney General's office and other consumer rights protection agencies. The doctors are meh -- they have a network of doctors in this Buffalo Grove location. I have been going here for years (none the wiser) and have seen: Dr. Melnick (primary) Dr George ***Tip to you peeps: educate yourself about insurance codes!!! I believe they are up-charging patients by utilizing the 99204 code for 5-minute visits and follow-ups. I just thought this was just how expensive healthcare was, and that was just how it was. After consulting with other doctors about how much I pay for doctor visits and the extent of the visits, they suggested that I ask for itemized statements. Upon receiving the itemized statements, I was informed that I was being charged the 99204 code all these years. That being the case, I will be specific and only refer to the last couple visits. Both visits were no more than 5-minutes. The second visit included a strep test in which the doctor said it would take 5-minutes for the results, in which, through thin-walls, I heard him go see another patient, and then 25-minutes later, he came back and talked to me for another 3-minutes. I called the doctors' office on a Thursday, and upon talking to them, they told me the doctor was not in and that I would receive a call on Monday. Surprisingly, they called me back an hour later and their explanation was that the time reported is accurate. When I asked what time was reported, they only said "they reported time". No further explanation was given even after I asked several times, the person would not go into specifics on how much time was reported. I have used them for many years, so this is not a one-off, or me just being disgruntled by one bad visit. I have grown wiser and actually started looking into the codes they are using. How could they know if the time was reported accurately if the doctor wasn't even in to review this with? I will be also reporting this to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and to my insurance company. It is really sad that our healthcare system is like this. This is not even about the money, but the principle. I am fortunate enough to have the money to pay for these bills, but what about those who cannot? I don't think this is fair either for insurance companies or for any medical network to represent their physicians with crooked, already well-paid doctors. All I'm really saying is be smart, don't think healthcare really has to be expensive, and if you feel a bill is too expensive, ask for an itemized bill! You may be surprised with what you'll find. read more

I was running late and called the practice to let them know. No one picked up. The traffic on Lake Cook has been atrocious with the ongoing construction. I got to my appointment a little over 15 minutes. I drove over 20 minutes to get there. The front desk person canceled my appointment without even checking in with the doctor. She claimed they were short-staffed. In any case, I've never had this happen to me. Will not be returning. read more

Would give zero stars, if I could.. This place is awful! Every single time coming here, we end up waiting at least 20-30 mins after scheduled appointment time... This is EVERY time! I understand that apportionments run late, but, like I said, this is every single time coming here.. People that have appointments after me, get called before me. Why make a scheduled appointment if we can't be on time? Get it together, people. The way their system works, is ridiculous! My father and I were going to get my final HPV vaccine from the Advocate Medical Group Office in Buffalo Grove. We arrived 9 minutes late due to the traffic and snow. Their was about 7 minutes left of the appointment and they refused us. Seriously, it literately takes less than 30 seconds to make a vaccine injection. They however are often late by 30 minutes or more with no excuses or apologies. Now if you come in late on about 7 minutes late you'll be refused. They have unsympathetic staff and I would advise people not to come to that office unless you don't mind their unsympathetic behavior. read more

I'm sorry that I won't be as detailed and articulate as the last person who thoughtfully commented on this healthcare provider, but I just wanted to get this out there because it's been on my mind for weeks. I had an appointment at Advocate back in March for a routine checkup and blood work. After I waited way to long for the appointment that I was on time for and had been asked to sign away every shred of medical privacy while waiting in the waiting room, I was then led into a room where a medical assistant took my vitals; pretty normal stuff so far. Then doctor Melnick finally came in. He seemed very rushed and impatient. He was very dismissive and curt and quite honestly appeared to just not be that interested. For most of the visit he peered into a computer screen in the exam room and read a litany of questions off of that flat screen and occasionally turned to look at me when he keyed in my responses to the questions that he read out. It doesn't seem like you need much medical expertise to do that. My visit with the doctor couldn't have been more than 10 minutes and afterward I learned that Advocate charged my insurance company over $1500 for their services: for a rather shitty routine physical, to be quite honest. They then sent my blood to lab in Wisconsin that outrageously overcharged me for routine blood tests. I've never had to pay out of pocket for labs before, but that's how much they charged. What a racket. Over $900 charged for routine lab tests. None of that seems right to me. I'm a healthy, 40 year-old male and this was without a doubt, one of the poorest health care experiences that I've ever experienced. Based on my experience, how can I not conclude that they are only interested in grabbing as much money as they can possibly grab? In my opinion, Advocate embodies everything that is broken and wrong with the United State's poor, sad excuse for a healthcare system. I will never go back to Advocate, and I would not recommend, ever. read more
