Had a terrific foilboard session with Will "The Wizard" behind the boat that got me up and riding quickly. Great advice and positive personality from Will. Later in the day I had an upwind foil launch with Dan who went over and above to get me the proper set up and patience to save me from myself. Great experience with both and a very memorable day. The price for suping is good but considering in the time you rent them for, you have to drive to a beach (the nicest closest one is 17 min away) and set it up and drive back it's not worth it. If you go to lake Alice you can rent there it's around the same price, much better deal. If you have an issue with the board like we did it sucks because you have to drive back. Although they gave us a refund we had to pay $30 in "admin" fees which took 2 seconds. Bullshit. read more

All about business and not at all sport or customer oriented. You book 2 hours and only spend an hour in the water as they start counting from the time you get there. Owner is not nice and only cares about dollars. They try to sell you equipment for prices way above market (check online for yourself). They get students out on the water even when there is not enough wind and are not respecting security rules. They may cancel your classes without enough notice or change your scheduled time and charge you if you refuse the new scheduled time. For all those reasons the school has a very bad reputation among the kitesurfing community in Squamish. Go for a walk on the spit and ask the locals. read more

I wanted to send a special THANKYOU to Zack at Aerial Kiteboarding. He literally saved my life this past Saturday! This is my first Season, learning at "The Spit" in Squamish B.C. This past Saturday was a gusty day and was my first "maiden" voyage after going through several weeks of lessons. What I found out Saturday however, was that it would have been well worth it to spend more time learning the "Self-rescue skill" properly. (Self-rescue, by the way, is a common task a kiteboarder must do if he is stuck in the middle of the body of water and can't launch his/her kite due to wind conditions, or due to injury etc). Well, being new to the sport, I managed to drift into a dead zone, and out of view of the Squamish lifeguards - so no one was around to pick me up. Well great I thought, now I can practice my self-rescue - the only problem was, I was using a new kiteboarding bar, which was different from the one I learned on. When I tried to depower the kite by twisting the safety release, the kite would not depower, so I could not perform the self-rescue. I then made the mistake of thinking that if I was to release my safety strap (the last thing connecting you to the kite) the kite would depower. This was an INCORRECT (and stupid) assumption. The next thing I knew, my new core XR5 kite was scurrying off into the distance, and I was now stranded in the middle of the water basin, just with my board in hand. I was literally up sh$t creek without a paddle! Fortunately, however, I had the foresight to buy a safety the day before from MEC, and the whistle was in my pocket! So I thought - no problem - I'll just whistle and someone will instantly come and rescue me... ya right people! After 15 minutes of whistling at the boats in the distance, I realized no one could really hear me. Well, I guess I would be swimming to shore - IF that was even possible! And then... there HE was - in the distance ZACK TO THE RESCUE! At first, his boat was not coming towards me, so I blew and blew my whistle, even in the the S.O.S. series of tweets but then he veered towards me and was on his way! With a mixture of sympathy and scorn, Zack thankfully hauled me into his craft - THANKS ZACK! You may have really just saved me from drowning! So I wanted to say special thanks because despite being at the end a lesson, and onto his next, Zack decided to take time out, and save my life! He also helped me to collect my kite which was now about 200 meters on the other side of the basin. He then drove me back to shore! Well, folks, that was my first maiden voyage! It was a bit traumatic, to say the least, but I must say, a good lesson. When you are solo on the water, don't expect that if you get stranded, someone will be there to pick you up! You will need to rely on your own safety skills to save yourself. It's obvious that I will need to go over my own safety skills before my next maiden voyage. I was fortunate this time because of Zack, The Hero, was a round to give me a lift! Kiteboarding is SUCH an amazing sport, but after you learn how to Kite, there are also other things that are essential to know - 1) take a few extra lessons on Self Rescue, so in the heat of the moment, you can do it no probs... 2) if you are kiteboarding at the Spit, and are a beginner, best to go between 11am-2pm when the wind is solid and not gusty. 3) Avoid weekends as it is quite busy on The Spit then 4) Study Sailing and as much as you can about wind sports 5) GOLDEN RULE: Don't sail out farther than you are able to swim to shore! 6) stay within view of the Squamish Spit Crew, and if you find yourself drifting too far due to problems (like I did) do an early self-rescue read more

Kiteboarding instruction is highly subjective to weather conditions, instructors, equipment etc. My experience with Aerial was quite good compared to the two other schools I tried. Their equipment is a solid Canadian product: Ocean Rodeo from Victoria BC. Their boats are the best in Squamish for this purpose and their price point beats all other schools I've encounter in Canada and Mexico. I should be clear that the day I took a two hour solo lesson with Dan, the wind was adequate, the sun was shinning and I was able to use my own equipment. I found Dan to be very insightful and able to get the right tips to me at the right time. I can without a doubt say that with Dan's instruction I was finally able to cross over onto the enjoyment side of kiteboarding, but as I say, these types of experiences are highly subjective. I can honestly say that Dan wants his students to succeed, not so they'll come back for more lessons, but because he feels good being a part of introducing one into such an amazing sport. Although I've had a total of 6 hours of lessons spread evenly across 3 schools, and I've now spent many hours on my own building basic skills, I will be going back to Dan for additional intermediate level lessons. Dan is always looking out for his ex students on the water and giving valuable tips for free whenever the opportunity arises. Will I repeat? Yes, as necessary. read more

Aerial Kiteboarding is the BIGGEST kiteboarding school in Canada, and it shows. They have excellent instructors, they have their own brick and mortar location where you can go and meet them and rent or buy gear at good prices, etc etc. I found all these very convenient. As a novice I was very insecure and their experience helped me feel better. I worked directly with Dan and he is FANTASTIC! He is just ON all the time. He is so enthusiastic for kiteboarding that he made me feel very excited too. Great great experience for the summer. Especially as a couple, wonderful bonding experience. read more

Duncan Jackson Hi there, I did a destination experience with Dan and Zac at Aerial kiteboarding. I was a complete kite board "novice" and Dan and Zac's relaxed and excellent instructional technique enabled me to progress to riding upwind and gaining my IKO level 2 in the time I had avaliable. Dan could not help me enough and really cares about the sport and helping people get into the sport. He gave as much advice as I wanted and was very relaxed with his time and costings which mean't I was able to practise between using instructional times. Also Dan is a senior IKO instructor, with his methoical and way of reducing complex information for learning you can be assured you will be progressing faster than with other instructors. Also with the radio communiation to provide you with tips when you are out on the water you avoid the shouting and signs that can be confusing sometimes. I highly recommend them both and even if you are not from near Aerial's base in Squamish get in touch and see if there is anything Dan and his team can help you with. Aerial Kiteboarding is the school to use in Squamish. If you've ever tried Kiteboarding without instruction, and are still interested in trying, you will see the difference after only a few short sessions with these guys. Advanced rider? Dan, the main guy at Aerial has competed on a national level and has turned some heads while landing on the podium. I believe they may actually have had to invent a new trick cause of this guy. If what you want is to start, improve, or advance your Kiteboarding skills, these guys can scale their lessons for your skill and are serious about safety. With just 3 quick snow lessons, and 1 1 hour water lesson, I was able to go up wind and they even helped me out with some great gear at an amazing price. Mel will answer your questions. I was looking forward to a new and fun experience learning how to kiteboard but left feeling inadequate and dumb. Our instructor Ed seemed nice and friendly at first but after a few runs he was obviously really frustrated that some of the people in the group weren't getting the concept fast enough. He called us a " Shit show" and basically said that we should not have come because it obviously wasn't for us. Did he not realize that we have never done this before and that is why we took the 3 hour lesson? If I were to go back ( which I never will because "it's not for me") I would make sure that Ed was not my instructor. He might be a good at kiteboarding but not a very good instructor. I couldn't wait for the lesson to be over. It was brutal. read more

Had a 3hr lesson booked for 2:00 was told to show up 1/2 hour early, had confirmation of this in morning. Left at noon to be there for 1:30 when I arrived no one was at bus someone told me she was out beach doing a lesson allready... I found her and she said oh didn't you get message? It is cancelled due to low wind I called you...dumbfounded I walked away and watched for a while seeing her teach a lesson and other people kite surf. I checked my voicmail and she did call about 40 minutes before I was supposed to be there??? Not enough notice and not sure why lesdon was cancelled... I was back home for 4:45, nothing better to do with my time. read more

I did the introduction course this weekend and was very disappointed - I will not be going back for more lessons. I have no doubt Dan has lots of experience but his people skills suck. His instruction was brief to say the least and he was very impatient and altogether rude at times. The lesson was totally disorganised and it felt rushed and put together last minute. I spent a large portion of the lesson stood holding the boat to stop them floating away (as instructed to do so by Dan - hello they have things called anchors!!). I felt like I wasted my money to be honest. The only saving grace was that the other instructor Ed was the total opposite to Dan - he was patient and clear with his instructions even while being shouted at by Dan for what seemed like everything. Towards the end Dan just up and left Ed and three students with no communication as to what he was doing - so half the group got to do the up wind drag whilst the others were left hanging. Gong show is all I can say. There are plenty of other schools out there I would recommend trying them before using Aerial Kiteboarding. read more
