Bilbao Airport seems like a very good place to me, which is why I would give it a 10. Overall, it is quite clean, well-organized, and comfortable for travelling. In addition, everything is usually clearly signposted, which makes it much easier not to get lost. The staff are generally polite, and the atmosphere is calm, which makes the whole experience pleasant. As a slightly less positive point, there can sometimes be a bit of waiting or certain areas may be rather crowded, but it is not something of great importance. It does not usually spoil the journey or the overall impression. It is also worth mentioning that the building is very beautiful and modern, although that is only an additional detail. All in all, it is a practical, pleasant airport and a very good option for travelling. read more

It was relatively easy getting in and out of the small airport. Getting to the city was also easy. We took the bus (Bizkaibus 3247) which is a 20 minute journey to the center of Bilbao. It runs every 15 minutes and cost 3€. read more

I've flown in/out of this airport on a few occasions with only good experiences. Compared to many US airports of the same size, Aeropuerto de Bilbao is a cakewalk. I think the small nature of this airports results in shorter lines especially if you are arriving from an international point of origin. This is a no frills airport, so if you have a long layover bring some things to keep you busy. read more

I arrived here by taking a bus from San Sebastian. The airport has some nice modern architecture on the outside, but the inside is pretty basic and not very big. There are big screens for arrivals and departures as you walk into the main terminal, so it's easy to find which area to go to for check-in. I had a quick stop at the Turkish Airlines counter before heading to the VIP lounge, which is the one that Bilbao uses for most airlines, The security screening was fairly fast and the passport control happened just before boarding my particular gate. read more

Compact airport with good amenities. I flew in six days ago and am writing this review while waiting for my flight back home to California, with a few traveler tips (while my memory is fresh): (1) Rather than taking an expensive (€50+) taxi to downtown Bilbao, take the green Bizkaibus number 3247. Buy your ticket (or even better, a Barik card) at the manned kiosk located inside the airport at the same exit where you board the bus. Fare is €3 each way, or €0.57 each way with the €3 Barik Card (which you can load with money and use all over Bilbao - on the tram, buses, metro, funicular, and even some long distance trains). (2) If you buy any goods that you're taking back outside the EU, you can claim a VAT refund. This needs to be validated at a kiosk BEFORE going through security. If you need to mail in any paperwork to get the VAT refund processed, use the "Lion Head" mailbox situated at one of the middle entrance gates into the airport. (3) I could not find any English books or magazines at the airport bookstores, so bring them from outside. On the other hand, that may not be a bad thing, because I'm writing this review instead. (4) They threw away my water bottle at security, but there are many vending machines where you can get another for €1. You can also splurge and buy a similar one for 2-4€ at one of the airport stores or restaurants. (5) The return bus (also Bizkaibus number 3247) to the airport can be boarded at Moyua Plaza in central Bilbao. Give yourself a few extra minutes if you're traveling at rush hour. We took off out of Bilbao to head to Portugal. When we arrived at the airport there was a demonstration happening in the terminal. It turns out that the gardeners - groundskeepers? - were protesting working conditions. Apparently it had been going on for several weeks. The attendant who checked us in laughed it off and showed us the earplugs she keeps handy for the 90 minutes each day that that they're apparently allowed to do their protest. On the flip side, nice small airport. Decent duty free shop. Food options are sparse and expensive though. Best to pack a meal for your time here. read more

Nice and modern but with a dozen gates, it is hardly even a regional airport. It's small, but it's efficient and it had the flight to where I needed to be. Baggage claim (because Air France doesn't do gate check when you deplane with a jetway) was slow and poorly posted though only six or so carousels making it easy to figure out which is which. Free wifi throughout plus, I had departure lounge access (it's between gates 3 and 4, downstairs) and there is easy access to the city of Bilbao from here by bus and taxi. It was €20 from and €27 to. Security was a breeze even if I had to go through a second time because it's different than US rules. Shoes on, belt off, laptop and liquids out. Magnetometer only. read more

Small and convenient airport with 1 terminal. If you have an early morning international flight keep in mind that the airport opens at 5AM so you won't be able to get in before that time. You also cannot sleep at the airport since it closes overnight so I wouldn't even try unless you want to wait outside in the cold weather. Taxi is the best way to get TO the airport if you have to be there first thing in the morning (Bilbao City Taxi is approximately 25 euros and very convenient/punctual. Otherwise, I recommend taking the bizkai bus that leaves FROM the Bilbao Intermodal bus station from 5:15-22:00 every 15 minutes for only 3 euros (approximately 20 minute bus ride depending on traffic). If you're trying to get from the airport to the city: the bizkai bus leaves from the airport to Intermidal bis station and that runs from 6:15-24:00 every 15 minutes for only 3 euros. Since there werent many flights into San Sebastian, we used this as our dropping point for the Basque country. Very small, quiet and efficiently run. It's so easy to get in and out of here compared to Madrid and Barcelona. The car rental was also easy and being designed by Santiago Calatrava makes it aesthetically interesting too! read more

Small but beautifully designed airport. Check-ins always feel like a free for all even for business class!. Must be a cultural thing as this is reflected at trains, buses and bars. Cafes are very overpriced pre-security screening. For example, brekkie menu of croissant, coffee and juice is 7 euros. In town, coffee and croissant is 2 euros. Another 2 euros gets you fresh juice! Wait to eat at the VIP lounge located next to terminal 2. There is only one lounge though so it gets full. Security is a mess but the guards are decent. Getting there from city centre is a short 25 min drive costing 28 euros. Although, I reckon the taxi driver gave me a discount because we rocked out to Queen together. Buses cost 3 euros from Plaza Moyua. read more

Bilbao is a smaller airport serving the Basque region of Spain. It is an international airport but you can only reach other European cities. All the major European carriers fly here as well as many of the discount ones. The airport itself is beautifully designed and I really like the architecture. Being a smaller airport there isn't much here in terms of shops and food. The check-in area is a large open space so consequently it is quite spacious. The boarding area is less so. Once you are past security the airport feels much more cramped and seating is at a premium. There also aren't many spots to plug your electronics. Not that it matters much anyways since you only have 20 minutes of free wi-fi here. Being a smaller airport things tend to move faster than at a bigger one. Check-in goes very quickly since they don't handle a large volume of passengers however security is a little disorganized. I have definitely experienced worse though. Baggage claim is relatively quick and painless. If you are staying in Bilbao then there is a city bus that goes to the center. There is also a bus that will get you to San Sebastian and it comes fairly often. read more

The modern terminal designed by Santiago Callatrava makes an imposing figure at the edge of the airfield. The building itself is actually smaller than expected, just 12 gates (6 via jetway). The check-in area is very expansive to allow for any large groups, yet behind the security point there are only a few shops, 2 cafés and a few seating areas along the length of the building. The all-glass facade provides a full view onto the airfield. Upon arrival the exit from baggage claim leads directly to the outside, no waiting area. There is currently construction going on, so it remains to be seen what the future plans are. Definitely take the bus (Bizkaibus 3247) to the center, only 1.30EUR for the 15-minute ride, running every 20 minutes. It stops at 3 places in the center (Alameda Recalde, 14; Pl. Moyua; Gran Vía, 74), then ending at the central bus terminal (Termibus). Most hotels should be within a 10 walking distance of any stop, or take the metro from the Pl. Moyua stop for more distant destinations. read more

Great smaller airport. Great architecture style. Easy to get in and out of. Not a ton of shopping or restaurant options but you are not really there for very long anyway. Passport control is easy to navigate as was luggage claim. Rental car garage is somewhat of a nightmare if you are renting a larger car like I was. I've been through the Bilbao airport a few times. It's rather small, so its easy to get in and get out. There's not much here in the area of amenities. Grab a coffee and don't complain.
